"The Great Wipe - Stable 09-2014, post RIP messages here
odin_lowe replied to nl's topic in General Discussion
My favorite character so far. I started him January 24th, after it's previous iteration fell from the Rify shipwreck. Played between 80 and 100 hours with him. A few items changed here and there when they were implemented, but basically it's the closest I could get to a hero skin from the DayZ mod. (Which is actually just a player/npc skin from the ArmA2 PMC DLC.) I searched for an M4 since it's probably my favorite rifle. At first I used the R.I.S. grip for the flashlight add-on, as I love to play at night. After a while I started switching parts to get the Mag-pul, for less recoil and bullet spread. And finally switched the black assault vest for a DPM camo one. And it's been my regular stable branch character ever since. R.I.P. hero!! B) Jan. 24th, 2014 - Sept. 17th, 2014 -

Experimental Branch: 0.49 Discussion
odin_lowe replied to haknslash's topic in PC Experimental Updates
At this point, even though we want to play badly, they need to add more stuff as they are creating the game right now. Of course it'll break, glitch and bug, but it's part of the alpha process. When we get to beta and most features are in, then they'll start to focus on fixing bugs. (should at least) Right now fixing some of those bugs is like taking 1 step forward and 2 steps back. For the sake of making a "playable" build, the development process gets slowed down sadly. -
With the implementation of cigarettes and vodka (first of other possible alcoholic beverages) and Dean Hall liking Project Zomboid and sharing features/getting inspired by, would be nice to see character stress level rise depending on situations. Smoking one and getting a drink after events like you had would be both for you and your character! (can't wait to test those actually! ) Edit: 1000th post! B)

Option to turn Ambient Occlusion on without having to activate post processing
odin_lowe replied to Ansssi's topic in Suggestions
Same. Got my fingers crossed the redesigned engine will allow such options. (Maybe they could lock the brightness and gamma too! ;) Or at least limit it to minimal scrolling for those who have dark monitors... But I don't have my hopes too high for this one.) -
Anytime!! B) You need a mag for that makarov? Carrying one on me but I don't have the pistol. Basically it's to give to anyone who needs it. (Like the rest of my extra gear... I like basic survival more too!)

Why nobody want to play in the night time?
odin_lowe replied to MrKartel's topic in General Discussion
I love playing at night time. I don't have any problems with zombies, night or day, but the main reason I don't play much in night time servers is due to the gamma and brightness exploit and light passing through solid objects like walls and such. When the engine gets its big update and that's fixed, it'll be a step in the right direction. Although I doubt the gamma and brightness exploit will ever get fixed, as it's mainly a graphics option, and not an actual bug. DayZ being an online game based on an old "single player" game engine (back in flashpoint and ArmA 1, not everyone played online and the player base was mostly split in half) with no internet connection required, this feature was overseen and no attention was put into it since then. (Remember that Operation Flashpoint was released in 2001, and ArmA 1 in 2006.) The only way to "fix" this, will probably be when private shards with whitelist and passwords are available. And this is still not 100% proof since we'll have to rely and trusting players will follow rules. Fingers crossed the option would be reduced to a minimal at least so that it's more balanced anyway. -
Friendly?!? Dusk setting in. Gotta love the great outdoors! Fishing and camping. B) During the broken "hypothermia" bug 0.49 exp build. Too much stuff.

 I found a pitched tent a while ago, and left a gift for it's owner. (an AKM with a full mag attached) Would love to see their reactions finding gifts like that. Beans for you! :beans: -

Experimental Branch: 0.49 Discussion
odin_lowe replied to haknslash's topic in PC Experimental Updates
Rify is more east than north really.... This is experimental discussion. What you think isn't important, might not be for everyone else. I didn't really care to spawn south, or east, or whatever, but someone was surprised to have an Elektro spawn, so I shared my experience in the same way. (At least I know this guy is interested in this particular feedback.) -

Melee feels fantastic right now. (at least for me) Was fighting 4 zombies at once and dispatched them all with one hit, never got hit also. 1 was running towards me and I just sidestepped while attacking at the right time and his body went flying towards a wall. Felt very satisfying. (some said that weapons/guns/ammo/mags/clips were rare, but I found lots of all of these. 2 mosins inside the same police station.) I left behind lots of shotgun ammo, .22, an amphibia mag, a sporter mag, shotgun speedloader, blaze 95 speedloader, magnum speedloader, etc. Loot seems very fine too me. (note that all of these were found on the same server during a 2 hour run from Cherno, to Myshkino, and stopping by Balota airfield, Pavlovo military base and Zelenogorsk. Not looking in every building and even skipping the 2 jailhouses at Balota.) -

First spawn I got was at the Cherno docks. :) (notice the known shadow bug) -

Crashed twice in 3 hours, which is not so bad. (once because I right click on spaghetti can, which is a known bug...) Only thing new I found was a firefighter jacket. -
Sorry to tell you that you have the bare minimum to run it. Those freezes are to be expected and are probably cause by the purging of memory. (only 2 gig ram) When ever it occurs, the game "freezes" for the time it takes for your system to flush the memory, to make some room for the new data to take place. To have a better experience, you would need to upgrade your system. There's no other way sadly.

Watched it all. Dean still seem to be invested in the project even though he's leaving. I respect this guy a lot. -
I didn't know about this, and learned the hard way. As I was starting my fire, I leaned forward to enter the tent I had just set, and got too close to the fire.... Tried searching the forums, but didn't find anything except a suggestion thread from a while ago. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/208547-light-fire-to-clothes/?hl=burning#entry2088979 "My face is melting!" "I'm burning!' I started to ran frantically and got on the ground to roll over. :D It took a while to heal up so it did some damage.

Thanks Robert. B) But I don't think it would change anything. They have all read, at least one time, the warning before entering the game menu. And still... "I understand" they say?! -

They already said that those bugs we experience didn't happen in the internal build. Those are different. You can only know about these kind of bug/glitches when the servers gets the new lines of code. (and those "lines" were different from the internal build which has other unfinished features...) Alpha means creating the game. Creating hundreds of bugs and glitches. Then beta means fixing most of the bugs so the final product feels more polished. DayZ is plagued by it's community slowing down development process by "forcing" the devs in making a somewhat stable build so people can play the game. Most other alphas out there suffer from the same thing, but at a much smaller scale. This can't be helped anyway. -

There's a good thing for testing purposes: If you don't log out, you don't have to worry about hydration, food, warm or cold weather as your status never change. Of course when you log back in you die of hypothermia, but that's just a temporary bug. When logging out, just put stuff in your backpack or tent, and hide them. When you get back on (hoping the server is still online and not crashed) you just go back to your stuff and continue. No need to carry or look for food or water, at all. It's a game breaking bug, yes, but it happens at the right time. The internal dev version doesn't have these problems, so it's mostly due to missing lines or parts of coding. During this time, I'll search for additions. -

Not yet, but I keep trying. Although I don't know which loot spawn table they are part of so I'm searching all gun spawn. (mostly civilian judging from the aspect and real life use of these weapons)
