Your thoughts on the newest implementations
odin_lowe replied to Bonappetit's topic in General Discussion
I like it. I try to avoid rain and dry my clothes when I can to avoid hypo - hyper, and try to find raincoats and gorka jackets. I didn't get much hyper thermia though and was cold most of the time, even while running long distances and being dry. It didn't bother me and I liked what it added to immersion, but it definitely needs some tweaking. The rest of the 0.49 patch will come later on, with the new items, etc. (Looking forward to test the new shotgun, find fingerless gloves and get attacked by wolves!) -
Totally agree. I play 7 days to die and love how hordes effect overall gameplay. Can't wait for the real 0.49 to come along. Currently in experimental, but it's only part of the 0.49 (mainly the character/weather system) and the rest will come with something I'm very looking forward to. ^_^

I understand what you mean and I feel for you mate, but I've come to accept these deathmatch behavior and mostly think it comes from the fact that players can have guns in their hands. I started with the mod when it came out and the more time passed and the community became bigger, the more linear interactions became. The mod did come from an Army/War themed "simulator" and a lot of players feel the environment is just a background to player interactions. (less talk, more shooting though) I have to say that I love my experience so far with DayZ mod and stand alone. Combining hundreds of hours, many deaths, lots of very interesting encounters and many many bugs and glitches. The only thing I can explain is that in my opinion, most players will try and set themselves a personal theme for the game. As some play for the roleplay experience more than anything else, and loathe KoS for it breaks their interaction possibilities. While others play only for the gunplay mechanics. Even has broken and unfinished it might be, the heaviness and manipulations it requires takes it apart from other shooters like Battlefield, CoD, MoH, Halo, etc. I love DayZ for it's a canvas. Only a few games don't really have any background story for you to follow, or try to shape your characters in a certain way. Not many RPGs have this little or no character progress at all excepting acquiring better gear, and that's very relative too. Even in many open world games, there's big scripted parts and smaller ones dotting your path along the game, making it feel linear at times. Well, to each his own. The path is sometimes similar, and often different. (When eventually we get mods for the stand alone, and private locked or whitelisted servers, PvE will explode and be much more available, no matter how much as been added officially.)

There are lots of friendlies in this game. Just don't go running around screaming "Friendly??Friendly!!" everywhere. I never use this word. I often ask different questions based on space and time instead, and when asked if I'm friendly, I reply that I'm not hostile. Never got killed after a conversation started. Met many wonderful players that I play sometimes with, and others I've never played with again apart from the time we met in-game, and played for a few hours. There's lots of players who kills others because they like that in games with guns, and many others that kills because they're nervous or can't seem to be able to trust others for fear of loosing their gear. There's lots of different players, but no matter how many times I get killed, I don't chance my play style because I like it and enjoy my time quite a lot, even in this very early stage of development and in a n unfinished game. To each his own.

Personally I like the 1911 better, but the magnum is overall better for it's easy loading capacity. 6 powerful shots that just need loose rounds to reload, and eventually when you find speed loaders, life just gets easier! I tend to find 1911 mags quite easily though. Lots of em' lying around in wrecked UAZ jeeps and construction sites. Magnum is better, but I'll take a bad ass engraved 1911 that kills with style and judgmental power over it every day! B) Think of Vincent Vega (John Travolta) Jules Winnfield (Samuel L. Jackson) in Pulp Fiction! Edit:Fixed ;)

You can also make an improvised courier backpack with rabbit/hare pelt+rope. Tried adding sticks but it didn't work.

Status Report - Week of 25 August 14
odin_lowe replied to DemonGroover's topic in News & Announcements
Fantastic work! Really looking forward to these changes and additions! It also looks like the first vehicle we'll get will be a horse, even though they're already implementing vehicle parts recovery and management. We won't be seeing horses in 0.49 but still, very nice!! -
Has anyone ever succsessfully searched for berries?
odin_lowe replied to battlerhd's topic in General Discussion
Try looking for these bushes, and spam your action key as much as you can. There doesn't seem to be any limit to the amount of berries you can collect. -
DayZ Commander problem maybe?
odin_lowe replied to ajxxhyperkill's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
DayZ commander isn't really supported anymore since the whole Steam ArmA OA beta streamlined. You'll have to try the new DayZ Launcher by Vilayer. If it still doesn't work, then I can't help you, sorry. I recently had some problems too with DayZ commander, and after reading a bit, I switched to DayZ Launcher and voilà, no more problems... http://dayzlauncher.com/ -
POLL: What if DayZ was made by a different company?
odin_lowe replied to The Aquatic Land Walrus's topic in General Discussion
It would different for sure. But honestly, vaguely like that there's no way to know "how different" it would be for sure. If a company like Bethesda made DayZ, it would probably be similar to Fallout 3 or TES series (Except TESO, which isn't a real TES game... I've been in 4 different beta tests and it's not a TES game. It's a an MMO in TES universe.) in terms of open world style game. But if it was the case, we probably wouldn't have access to the Alpha or Beta. Again, all this is pure speculation. I'm currently testing/playing about 8 to 12 different alphas and betas, and at least half of those are of the zombie survival genre, and they all feel very different despite being of the same category. (Alpha/Beta games of the same genre I play/test : Project Zomboid since the beginning, when the only thing there was was a tutorial with a few houses and 2 streets..., The Dead Linger since Alpha 1, 7 Days to Die since Alpha 1, Nether since pre-release alpha, etc.) There's one that I totally quit though. WarZ/Infestation: Survivor Stories. I per-ordered it like a lot did assuming it was going to be an awesome zombie survival game. It started to get weird when after 2 weeks of alpha, without any progress done, the game switched to beta stage. And when in December they called it a "full complete game", they lost all credibility. Despite major changes to some mechanics, other maps, addition of "crafting" and a finally "vehicles" (yes, "vehicles"...) the game never delivered what it tried to do initially. I had some fun and enjoyed some moments spend in game with friends, but it's truly an example not to follow when making a video game. Anyway, interesting post. I like DayZ SA current alpha state the way it is. Quite a lot. I like the direction it's taking and even at this early stage, I have lots of fun playing it. -

 Nice dodging!! He probably never thought he would get fragged to pieces! GG! -
I am very pleased with the progress being made.

Personally, the fishing mechanic. It's simple, and very basic, but works perfectly. In a matter of weeks the animations got tweaked and feel much better, even if it's still very limited. It took the stand alone a few months to get fishing going, while it took almost 2 years for the mod to get fishing mechanics. I play a lot of other survival games and most mentioned including fishing but have yet been implemented so I'm very glad we got it. -
GG! Very nice shots!

Saw Hetstaine post his first lightning strikes screenshots a few months ago, but can't find his post anymore. Anyway I recently caught my first ones too. I tried every time there was a storm, but hadn't been lucky to catch any, and a few days luck finally smiled at me. I have to admit that the ArmA2/DayZ SA lightning looks rather silly. It's too curvy and "doodle" like. It will probably be worked on eventually as it's just a placeholder animation taken from ArmA2. One of the best lightning strikes for me was in the Stalker series, and in the "Going to the country" mission of the old Mafia game. Even if it dates back, those animations are great!!

How did you die after the "goats moment" ? Great shots!! Really liked your camp site.

0.49 UPDATE: BEARS,PLANTING,HARVESTING & NEW GRENADE! (CHERNARUS LOCAL NEWS)
odin_lowe replied to agamingcouple's topic in Gallery
You have to understand that what's boring for you might not be boring for everyone else. Same applies to what you like. I use the survival aspects of the game (hunting, fishing, crafting, etc.) a lot and really like it. To each his own. -
 Stopped halfway to type comment. Man, this thing's legit!! :D "Look at me I'm important!! I'm a ladyyyy!!" Shed a tear of laughter. Thanks for sharing!

Very nice!! I never lost faith, but I have to say it's nice seeing footage like that.

what's your favorite backpack to use?
odin_lowe replied to TheMaxedout's topic in General Discussion
Improvised leather backpack. Favorite of them all. -
It doesn't matter where you are, it's who you encounter that matters. Yes, it's more dangerous than other areas, but I've met others without killing them on sight, and talked to them instead. In the end, no shots were fired and everyone left the area happy and alive. Non-the-less, good video mate! Great job and thanks for sharing!! Edit: Nice to hear from Bates and Trippy too!! You guys are great!! Keep it up! Fantastic job!

Fantastic!! It looks pristine too! ;) Thanks for sharing!! Amazing loot! :beans:

I had just finished my afternoon of fishing and was heading in the woods to get a fire started and cook these fresh carps when I stumbled onto this. (experimental branch, FPV, southeast 0-4 I think, or Central 0-4, not sure. If the owner reads this, feel free to confirm the server,as the location will not be discussed.) Went inside to check the content. Instead of taking stuff and stealing from it, I decided to arrange it a little, trade some ammo and make some gifts too. I wish I had some paper and a pen at that time so I could have left a note. Anyway, what would you have done if you would have found it? (I'm sure a lot would have emptied it just to move it and fill it with their own stuff... )

Wow! Much to discover in the debug lands!! (And when they add new things to the current map... :D ) Love your Virtual Tour series very much Weyland! Keep it up mate!!
