1) Only a few minutes like the sardines, at least in my experience. 2) No, they don't always spawn netting. While they may have been looted, there's is a chance they didn't spawn any. Sometimes, it's the opposite and you can find multiple stacks of netting at the same boat. Edit: Also, the netting fishing trap for the mackerel gets damaged over time, so just use duct tape to repair it.
-
I think so, but as of now, I only caught mackerel... Using the plastic bottle fish trap, I only caught sardines (obviously) but can't prep them with any knife, and can't cook them in either a stick, or in a cooking pot with water. Mackerel on the other hand, gets cook as easily as the carp.
-
On 12 carps, I got sick only once, and got "cure" in no time. Be search to pack some charcoal tabs just in case. (Don't get sick, when you have a funny taste in your mouth, use them!)

Fishing works perfectly. You can fish carps using the improvised fishing rod in fresh water. Mackerel using the improvised fishing trap (Netting and metal wire combined. Watch out, separate your netting before, as it uses the whole stack instead of just one.) and sardines using the plastic bottle fish trap. You can cook the mackerel and carps using either the wooden branch, or a cooking pot with some water in it. Somehow you can't "prepare" sardines like you used to.

I haven't tried using rabbit pelts, as rabbits seem to be absent, or very rare in this build. But, using cow or deer pelts, you can craft the leather sack if you tan the pelts and make some leather. 5 pieces sewed with a leather sewing kit will craft it. Tanning and dyeing process both works. Can't wait till the boars are back to craft the improvised leather backpack. Favorite backpack in the game.

Civilian houses spawn mountain backpacks, drybags, child and talloon backpacks. You can find hunting backpacks in sheds, deerstands and military spawns. The tortilla backpack can spawn in military tents and crash sites. Good hunting!! (Like Klesh said, you're best bet is to craft an improvised backpack until you find the one you want. Also, you can always tan some leather and craft a leather sack, if you fancy that kind of apparel.)

1PP public? I'll keep an eye out, as I'm a heli crash site hunter. B) (Already got what I need, but I'll be happy to give you the SVD if I ever find one.) Good luck! -
Buttstock & Handguards : Type / Quality and performance
odin_lowe replied to hitt0r's topic in New Player Discussion
The quality of the items themselves have no effects on accuracy or damage right now, but the various stocks and grips do have an impact on recoil. I'd suggest either asking Aggathor and checking the WOBO community videos, as he did test it out in the past. Take notice that these values might have changed since then, and will probably change again once the quality of items gets factored in. Good luck on your research! P.S.: Personally, I tested both wood and plastic stocks/handguards for the AK101, and have to say that I had less recoil, and better accuracy overall with the plastic ones. Using a PSO-1 as a scope. But that's just my personal experience, as I've read quite the opposite from players only using the wooden ones, saying they are the best right now. Go figure. -
Interesting ideas. Although I do the same as Gannon, this could be a solution to the problem, as it is a problem in itself. In my opinion, the same should be apply to "ghosting" as well, as it's all part of the server hopping issue.

[MPGS] Persistence and Auto-Restart Hotfix Deployed
odin_lowe replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
:D What I mean is : I've heard or read many, many times before, players whining about losing their gear, for whatever reason. The reasons really don't matter in the end, make it a bug/glitch, getting KoS, having a character wipe or persistence wipe, or even just getting killed by a hacker. Losing virtual gear is virtual gear. It happened, and will happen again, it's DayZ. That's it. Some accept it, some don't, but understanding that wipes are bound to occur, make it scheduled or not, with warnings, or even without any warnings, is essential. That was my point. P.S.:You probably thought I meant : "I've heard "get used to loosing your gear" a thousand times already!" And that I was saying "Get used to losing your gear!" an hour later, but in the end, it was the initial message from the start! -

Nope. An hour ago I said I was still getting annoyed by players whining about loosing their gear, for whatever reasons they find. (getting KoS, dying do to glitches, getting character or persistence wipe) I'll always get annoyed by this, as it's the lack of understanding that annoys me, and the whining. But that's just life, and I'll deal with it as much as I can. That said, this is a forum, a discussion forum, so I'll share my thoughts. If the moderators find any infractions or a non-respect of the rules, then they should, and will warn me, otherwise, it'll stay the same. -

I know how it feels. Tatanko, GaryWalnuts and me were trying to get others to swim to "debug island" for a small event/gathering, and we were building a camp there and acquiring the necessary supplies to make things interesting and to survive and have a small party there. All of this disappeared now do to the wipe. We'll have to start again. Yep, it sucks. B) -

Like I said, I'm not gonna search the 240+ pages of experimental thread for you Mookie. Nothing personal, as I've always liked you and your comments, but surely you must know by now not to get attached to your gear. In case you don't know yet, there'll be plenty more wipes, persistence and character wise, until we reach beta, and then until we reach "final" release. -

This was announced a while ago when they said they were working on a fix for the big camps. It's in one of the 240+ pages of the experimental branch thread, and no, I'm not gonna do the search for you, nice try. During all the time of 0.58 experimental and even after 0.58 hit stable, the main exp thread stayed open and we continued testing it out. Last Friday, when they opened up 0.58 experimental hot-fix servers, the activity on the thread climbed again, and we knew the wipe was coming as soon as the hotfix would hit stable. Edit: Don't get attached to your gear, as you'll be grieving continuously, but I think you know this as you seem pretty sad and frustrated from your loss. Sorry dude. -
Right now the testing is done, and the servers are gone. They will probably close this thread pretty soon too. You'll have to wait till 0.59 experimental to join up on our scientific crew! Cheers!!
-
I had this happen to me since the camp fires were first implemented, and before that, using a gas lamp. It'll change once we get the new renderer. How, I don't know, but it'll be different for sure. It will get balanced eventually.

Looking pretty good. It reminded me a lot of the NVGs in the mod. I wonder how they will look like in the SA, if we ever get some NVGs... Good job on that squad. Nice shots.

Sorry fella, but I didn't quote you personally, as I've heard or read "sucks to loose your gear" more than a hundred times now, so don't take this personally. Thus, I did not "pick apart" your nice post. If you feel personally implied in my post, well, suit yourself, but it's your choice. I didn't want to make you feel bad in any way, I've just been annoyed at people winning about loosing their gear for the past, oh, let's say 22 months now... That's the main reason I didn't quote you, as it's a general statement, and it's not directed towards your post in particular. "In all honesty" is a saying that exist, in multiple languages. In french we say "en toute honnêteté". http://www.linguee.fr/francais-anglais/traduction/en+toute+honn%C3%AAtet%C3%A9.html -
Last shot of our big community camp. Great job everyone. It was a blast to add bits and pieces and watch the survivor camp grow. Gotta love this community!! B)

odin_lowe replied to yimmasabi's topic in General Discussion
This was already announced a while ago. If you didn't know, there was a problem/bug with camps, no matter the size, that caused lost connection for some, major lag and item interactions problems. We were waiting for a fix, with an announced wipe when the fix would hit, without warning. In other words, that was the warning. We had the hotfix hit experimental Friday for a weekend of testing, that we done, and the fix worked. So, like they said, they applied it as soon as possible. It's your choice to take the game as a finished product with all it's feature, but in reality it really isn't and we'll have multiple wipes, both on persistence and characters until the game is finished. Some will be announced, others will come without any warnings. -

In all honesty, it doesn't suck to loose "your" gear, as it's not your gear at all, you've found it. I've said this before, and will say it again: we'll have multiple wipes, scheduled and un-scheduled, character and persistence wise, until the game is finished. I know a lot of players just want to "play" the game, but 90% of the time they loose sight that it's not finished, and shouldn't be treated as is. People wanted their "huge camp" fix, and now they got. Biggest camp I've ever seen, built by our little experimental community. And yes, almost all of the tents were filled with stuff. All of it lost, for the greater good. B) -
Yes. It seems there's some floating hay stacks almost everywhere possible...

Guns at heli crash have at least 1 attachment on it or a mag on it
odin_lowe replied to Kiwiyellow5's topic in Suggestions
Yep, I know this. But again, it's still a bug, as all items will have despawn timers ticked when moved or interacted by players. I don't loot farm, so knowing how to "bypass" the bug won't help me in any way, it just encourages the server hoppers. Then again, I mostly play on private hives, so not much server hoppers problem there. ;) Back on topic, like Gannon said, I too would like to see the new weapons spawn system running up soon, with chances to find weapons with already attached mags and maybe some rounds. It'll make things pretty interesting and more immersive, at least for me. -

odin_lowe replied to Kiwiyellow5's topic in Suggestions
It's already been stated in the status report, that eventually, Hicks said, weapons with possible attachments could have already some attached to them, including mags, with some ammo or not in them. At crash sites, maybe, but they all eventually will share those possibilities, not just crash sites. Personally, I've been crash sites hunting again since them returned to their dynamic status in 0.58, and I love it. Players tend to server hop the "officer's tent" and it's pretty annoying, so instead, crash site hunting is a great alternative, and right now, since "everyone" is server hopping, they pack lots of goodies. Also, with the current "non-respawning loot" bug, some private hive servers just don't spawn anything anymore in the "officer's tent", so again, the dynamic crash sites can provide you with anything you want. B) Edit: This is further backed by the fact that you'll need to go to a specific building holding a workbench to modify weapons, and attach various stocks, grips and what-not using the right tools. Work in progress. -
Yay! It's camp building time!!
