Hit the thread below and post screens of your characters if you want. It's the place to hang around. Some very nice and original setups there. https://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/185071-post-your-gear-so-far/ The guy wasn't duping, he was loot cycling/farming the officers tent. Right now the loot that spawns only despawns if a player interact with it, thus the reason he was moving the stuff that was spawning out of the officer's tent for it to respawn new items, and so on. It's a very cheap way of "finding" M4s and "rare" items. But, soon this will be a thing of the past, as those items will go back to their proper chopper crash sites. And items will have their own despawn timer when the CLE gets updated. Personally, I love heli crash site hunting.

Terminator Encounter – Absorbs 5 shotgun hits + 3 sks hits close range. [4:46]
odin_lowe replied to sobieski12's topic in Gallery
More than half of the shots didn't hit him, and the others, well, desync, lag and the actual area of the hit influences a lot how a player character will react. If he was a Terminator, you would all have been killed, and he wouldn't have run around like that... ;) B) -
All types of 5.56 STANAG and CMAGS spawn at the "officer's tents". (10 rnd, 20 rnd, 30 rnd, 40 rnd CMAGS, and 30 rnd STANAG, 30x2 coupled mag.) Eventually I really hope they remove the 30x2 STANAG coupled mag, as it makes no sense that the bullets from one the mags teleport themselves into the chamber prior to being shot, instead of a quicker reload animation. Either they change the animation, or simply remove the mag. As we know, this could easily be replaced by the 100rnd double drum c-mag that was announced and shown about 8-9 months ago... Lastly, better enjoy those spawns right now, as with 0.59 the M4, Ak101, and other rare military spawns including attachments, clothes and weapons will be back exclusively at NATO crash sites (UH-1Y Bell "Venom" chopper, the smoking ones.) and Russian (Mi-8) crash sites. P.S. : As for new weapons, it's cool, but I already have a favorite right now (The engraved 1911) so unless they eventually add an FN P90, I'll be happy with all the weapons already in the game... It's all a matter of taste! Like Herkyl loves his Skorpion!

So we tried to pretend to our afk friend that we had all just been killed..
odin_lowe replied to NotAScouser's topic in Gallery
When you're double carrying sometimes you get stuck in animation, seemingly standing up for other players. Press your vault key to get out of this stuck animation. -
These are fantastic concepts in my opinion. Looks like things we saw in the DayZ 2017 mod, which I used to really enjoy!!! I wonder if we'll eventually see things like that eventually.

That works. Or, you can just build a fire... No need for matches or an axe. Just find a gravel spot and search for stones, then when you have one craft an improvised knife. Chop down a bush or two with the knife, you'll get sticks. Get close to a tree and collect bark, 2 pieces. Craft a fireplace kit with one bark + one stick. Craft a hand drill fire starting kit with the other bark and another stick. Light the fire with the hand drill and add sticks to the fire so it keeps burning, you'll get warm in no time. Using waterproof clothes will fend off getting wet from rain, and usually have a higher isolation rate so they'll keep you warm too. Raincoats, and firefighter jackets/pants are the best for this. Good luck, and safe travels!

A friend shared a link about it, since he knew I enjoyed anything post-apocalypse and zombie related. I tried it, and was immediately hooked. I then started watching videos about the game from Frankieonpc, and was very entertained by the content created using this mod. I never stopped playing and following progress towards the stand alone.

Yes. B) Absolutely. It was the same for me. I would really like to see something similar in the stand alone.

That's the main problem, and uniqueness of DayZ at the same time. There are no "real" end-game features, as the end-game for you might not be end-game for another player. It's different for everyone. Personally I don't have any end-game feature at all, I just play to survive, interact, see what happens and try to make certain look for my characters based on the "role-play" I like. That's my end-game. Others might want base building as their end-game, personally, that takes me out of the game, removes any immersion for me, and just take a silly turn for no reason. I hate base building. Pretty much like every single game tries to implement various "crafting" in their game as it's mainstream and popular/commercial now. But since base building is basically the "end-game" in most survival online games these days, I fear it will become the same thing with DayZ. I really hope we never seen those kind of base building, and the devs simply adds barricading and a few other persistent container type items. (tents, barrels, etc.) It's kinda sad, but if they add Epoch-style base building, I'm probably gonna quit, or join private hives that have the option removed if it's possible, as quite frankly, I hate base building.... The end-game in DayZ should remain a personal factor, and not an imposed feature.

They won't remove the infected buddy, they are working pretty hard to make them much more dynamic than ever before. That being said, your taste in the mod is very personal. It's in no way better than the Stand Alone. I started with the mod when it came out. We rented a server and built a small community. I really enjoyed it and played for about 1100-1300 hrs. I went back to a vanilla mod (can't stand those "epoch"/base building things, I hate that with a passion...) server a few weeks ago, and although it's still fun, there's a lot of nostalgia factor that comes along, adding to the experience of revisiting the mod again. The current state of the stand alone remind me a lot of the post apocalyptic world shown in the movie "The Road", and it's basically the only game that I ever seen a post apocalypse without zombies, aliens, robots, dinosaurs or mutants, that feel as immersive as DayZ. Of course, all of this is based on personal feelings and opinions, as in the end, it's just a video game, a means of entertainment, and the experience is different for everyone. Although I miss the infected and really look forward to them coming back, I'm enjoying every step of the journey we're taking following the development of DayZ. Yes, I agree, zombies do matter.

Dark nights? Where'd they go? Also: Thunder?
odin_lowe replied to VVarhead's topic in General Discussion
Thunder is still in, but, much quieter than it was, and there's no more lightning strikes. That's all gonna change with the updated renderer. It'll be one step at a time, don't expect huge changes all at once though. Even though I love lightning and thunder, the lightning strikes used to look a little bit silly in my opinion, being too curved instead of being like a real lightning strike. As for the nights, I hope eventually they get back to being pitch black, if there's no other source of light like the moon, etc. A cloudy night, without electricity, in the country side, believe me, is pitch black. -
Thanks dude! Means a lot coming from the master of screenshots!! B) I love dusk-night-dawn in DayZ. It's simply makes amazing landscapes to take screenshots! (Adding a gas lamp here and there, or lighting fire in houses adds a lot to the night shots imo.)

Dude, chill. It's just a bug. It's all part of the creation process of the game. It happens. Why now? Why like this? Check the code, find the problem and fix it. Oh wait, you're not one of the devs... I'd say deal with it right now, and when it's fixed, be happy with it. (I've eaten lots of meat recently, cooked, and haven't got any problems. Using the cooking pot, with water in it. You need to cook the meat thoroughly though.)

As much as I loved the mod, I can't play it anymore. It's either the stand alone, or the mod... Running both on the same system for me right now, it just screws everything up... Server list no showing, DayZModLauncher crashing do to conflicts. All favorites disappearing from the StandAlone every time I log into the mod. Both games seem to hate each other right now on my system, and I had no problems before. Go figure... So I just stick to the stand alone. Even though there's no infected, it's still the best post apocalyptic open world game right now. It's the closest thing to "The Road" of all the similar genre games out there. Edit: I just wish there was less food... More fishing, hunting and farming needed. But that will come with balancing eventually I guess.

You can also find them at crash sites. Quite often when I'm fairly freshly geared I head around Green Mountain, find a crash site and it has both the knife (sometimes multiple combat knives) and the military boots.

Ambushing a heavily armed V3S group with a trumpet.
odin_lowe replied to sobieski12's topic in Gallery
They seem to have brought loot to their camp, which is why they went to the south west corner of the map. (Hundreds of player make their camp there it seems. They think it's hidden. Just like all those players making their camp on the edge of the map, north... :D ) Pretty harsh conditions for an ambush. Very nice try! -
It was probably Tatanko. I don't like my fish with too much seasoning, as it alters the natural flavors. And the little bits of rust tend to numb my taste buds too much. ;)
-
Somehow right now the only place it spawns is the huge town hall in Novodmitrovsk. It's the most water resistant and insulated clothing gear you can find. Comes in black and beige. Firefighter Olympic swimming team.

I haven't posted screens in this section for a while, so here it goes! I'm sharing a few shots from the past weeks/months. Enjoy!

You need to fill the cooking pot with water in order to cook something in it. If you don't want to use the cooking pot, you can always use a branch, which lets you see the transition from raw to cooked right away. If using a cooking pot, it takes about 3 minutes to cook the carp fillets. (Or mackerel.) I never got food poisoning from fish, yet.

All you Hardcore players packed it up and left?
odin_lowe replied to infiltrator's topic in General Discussion
We're still here, and not many have left in my opinion. But there's never been many of us anyway... ;) Can't wait for next experimental build to come. My only hope is that we always have at least a few 1PP experimental servers when there's a new build. I was very sad a couple of builds ago, when they suddenly were all removed for a while... These were my saddest DayZ days. :( -
DuG Bazaar Trading Event – 30+ Friendlies – Cultist drama – Followed by the devious Cannibal
odin_lowe replied to sobieski12's topic in Gallery
I love those kind of events. I'm part of The Colony that was created by fellow forum member Weyland Yutani, and we had some great events similar to this. Also, Tatanko have been organizing some events in the past months, and those have been brilliant too! Funny and interesting interactions are often plenty abound!! -
Did I do something wrong? Sniping in the Airfield
odin_lowe replied to FrigginTommyNoble's topic in General Discussion
:D Really enjoyed reading that! I'm glad you used the Ak101 at least once before you lose it to death, wipes, bugs or anything else. It reminds me of my first few hours playing the game. But technically, yes, you did something wrong, as you killed someone. Was he a threat to you? Of course not. Did it payed off in the end? Absolutely not, since you didn't take anything from him. Was it worth it?? Totally, as you've testing your weapon and got some training, both in game and in real life with your controlled breathing and trying to stay calm. Like many others pointed out, there's no wrong way to play DayZ, unless you're cheating or exploiting glitches. I'm almost at 1500 hours now, and only killed about 25 players in total, while I encountered more than 200. I died do to KoS or treachery only a handful of times. But, that's just me. The game is not about gear really, it's a bit about survival, and a lot about the experiences you get within the game, make them good or bad. For me, player interaction is the foundation of the game, and makes things very interesting. One of my most memorable experiences I had, was about a year ago on experimental, when I encountered a guy who didn't speak english, and didn't have a mic. He wasn't hostile, and in the end we played together for about 45 mins, only using gestures and basic words in chat. For the first 15-20 mins, I was always looking over my shoulder, just in case. But after sharing food, ammo, and defending each other from the infected, trust was gained. And when we finally parted ways, it was done in a civilized matter, and was bitter-sweet as I knew I wouldn't see him around again. With the language barrier, there was no way we could have shared steam info and play again. But in the end, the experience itself made this encounter much more meaningful than anything else I had experienced before, and even after that. The virtual apocalypse sure is an interesting place!! There's still hope out there! Safe travels survivor! B) edit: Also, I agree that military areas are more "hotspots" combat areas, but that being said, I've been killed more times in cities than at military locations... I met this guy at Myshkino tent city, talked to him from outside the barrack, and when he answered, I came in. We talked for a bit and we traded some items. I gave him a mag for his AK-74, and he gave me ammo for my blaze95. Not all encounters in military areas end up in death, but, still, be careful around those areas. ;) -
Fantastic shots Tatanko!! Really like the last one. B)
