Back in 0.54 experimental (Before that, nothing really good used to spawn there, or at least the items were not as rare and could be found around many other areas.) I tired to get there as fast as I can to "make camp" ,as it wasn't really known, but someone else that I won't name "leaked" the info, and it started to become much more frequented. I provided screenshots with light flares from a flare gun, and others started sharing those info. Since then, I've encountered numerous camps, players or other traces of survivors. Still, sorry to put oil on the fire. I try to help and provide as much info as I can when someone asks for advice or help with something.

I wouldn't say overlooked, I would say server hopped... <_< Came across a group of 3 server hoppers there yesterday. This is a pretty known spot since tanks spawns lots of mil gear. All the tanks across the map are now hotspots. DayZDB isn't really updated now so we can't rely on that. The tanks at the NWAF or Myshkino tent city are very good spots for high grade gear, but also at the NEAF and here: http://dayzdb.com/map#7.067.001 North of Krasnoe there's a wrecked convoy.

Prison Island for Plate Carriers and TTSKO, Where for Hunting Backpacks?
odin_lowe replied to Funkmaster Rick's topic in General Discussion
Hunting backpacks are easily found in feeding shacks, deer stands, guard towers and a few other civilian spawns. Taloon and mountain can easily be found in civilian houses across the map, while the tortilla backpack can be found at wrecked tanks, wrecked humvees and tall thin towers. (Not the red and white ones, but the ones at the NWAF or the one here: http://dayzdb.com/map#7.082.044 The tower behind the village pub. There seem to always spawn a tortilla backpack there, along with several pair of boots mili grade and field shovels.) -
Tried, but you can't right now.

Musty Gaming Private hive 1PP public hive. Can't really show menu screenshots as it's pretty buggy right now, and doesn't show weapons in hand.
-
Sadly yes, it was like that on 0.56 and 0.57 experimental. I really thought this would have been fixed for the stable release, as it's already been at least 3-4 weeks since we first saw that. On to the main topic: screenshots. Some random shots of the recent stable 0.57 push.

I found a grand total of 17 hunting scopes in both the experimental branch, and stable 0.57 build. I tested on the various rifle available, and personally my favorite combo is the Winchester model 70 with the hunting scope, closely followed by the CR527.
-
Found hunting scopes in deer stands, feeding shacks and the guard towers. (The two at Stary, or those at the NWAF and Myshkino tent city military base.)
-
The plate carrier vests seem to only spawn at the prison island right now. Pouches can be found at guard houses, wrecked tanks and other areas too. Pistol holsters can be found at police cars, and outhouses. The pouches still fit in a hunting backpack or mountain backpack.
-
Neither really. I know Hicks said the UMP isn't in yet, and it was only "leaked" in experimental, but I haven't seen any M4, nor any attachments for the M4 except for the scopes, which are shared by other weapons. But no RIS grip, CQB buttstocks, plastic parts or Magpul grips/stocks either... My guess is that they don't spawn either.

Found a Smersh Vest... At Stary Sober's Tents
odin_lowe replied to hyerjohn's topic in General Discussion
The SMERSH vest had only been rare when it used to spawn at the only 3 crash sites on the map, no smoke, Mi-8 helicopter, that were static back then. Came out the same time the PM Rak was released too. Back then, the vest was rare, but when they added the dynamic smoking crash sites (the blackhawks at that time, now they are UH-1Y high poly models) they became less rare, and then very common with newer versions of the loot system, which disregarded M65 jackets and SMERSH vests from their restricted heli crash loot spawns. It's pretty cool, as everyone can find one and test it/use it, just like the M65 jackets, but I hope they get their rare crash site spawn status back eventually. -
Dude, it's probably because the CLE is deactivated. Thus the reason new items spawn on server restart. (persistence disabled) If I understand correctly, when the CLE will be working, loot won't be dependent on the building. (Right now it's the main problem, with certain items being specific, for no reasons, to certain buildings. IE: Cargo pants in the industrial garage or the hunting pants only found in the new school building.) It will be region based, with some basic logic. But like Hicks said, there will be a chance to find military type gear in non-mili places, or vice-versa. Also, CLE will bring a certain "time life" to items, making them degrade over time, and finally disappear to make place for new items, Looking forward to see the new CLE tested maybe in 0.58 experimental! ;) On the main topic: Awesome showcase Septic!!! P.S: You cannibal!!! :o

Can someone tell me if this is normal thing to do?
odin_lowe replied to NomadZ's topic in General Discussion
In a somewhat "competitive" multiplayer game like DayZ (it's not supposed to be a competitive game, but just check streamers and youtubers, or most players out there and tell me they're not competitive... <_< ) I feel that a 3PP camera, with it's easily exploitable features, has no place at all. My main problem is not really the exploitable camera, as I mostly play on 1PP servers, or the migration from 1PP to 3PP, as I don't play to murder others. (KoS, etc.) My main problem is with people justifying exploits in any way. You can do it if you want, but don't start preaching it's ok because others do it, or whatever reason you can think of. (And by "you" I don't mean you personally, but whoever is concerned.) -
Great post! I'm sure that'll come in handy for a lot of players! That's mostly the main reasons why I love DayZ. Off topic: Did you take shots of your last community event Tatanko? If so, is there a thread about it yet? Thanks!

Can someone tell me if this is normal thing to do?
odin_lowe replied to NomadZ's topic in General Discussion
I don't see why it's so hard to understand some players play NOT for the pvp, but for the survival aspects, and mostly play on 1PP. (unless they remove the 1PP servers from experimental from time to time <_< ) I don't mind people exploiting bad mechanics or whatnot, what I hate is people who try to JUSTIFY their behavior. Why ask around if exploiting is exploiting? This is just silly. Let's do a funny quote from Shia Laboeuf : " Just do it!" and don't come asking for acceptance from the community, or be prepared to face replies. -

Then we'll stay on top of that cliff and laugh, as I don't follow. I rather walk alone than walk with bad company. ;) -

If you think you are abusing, or exploiting, then there's no doubt at all... I love how it's been noted a thousand time, that if "everyone" else do it, then it's ok... Can't wait to see everyone jump off a cliff just because everyone else does it, and laugh while I watch them plunder to their deaths, being the last sole survivor of the "retarded" apocalypse of 2022. (sarcasm for anyone who didn't notice... <_< ) Back on topic: exploiting the camera could be only a temporary thing, as they're trying to solve this issue by changing it. We'll see how it goes after that. -
Various shots from recent builds.

Favorite character I had of the various 0.57 experimental build.

How would you feel if 1st person perspective was mandatory?
odin_lowe replied to FlimFlamm's topic in General Discussion
I think so too, but I know some one who wouldn't really be able to make the switch. He can't really play in 1PP, as after a certain period of time he starts having headaches. It's not the first time I hear about something like that. I know of someone that don't like playing FPS type games as it makes him dizzy, although he can watch someone else play... Anyway, they are a minority for sure, but I think there would be similar cases, that would end up quitting playing DayZ for those reasons. -
How would you feel if 1st person perspective was mandatory?
odin_lowe replied to FlimFlamm's topic in General Discussion
I would just accept it. We already have access to 1PP, although the population is still mainly on 3PP servers. As much as I love the immersion that 1PP provides, it's not a shared feeling for everyone. For various reasons obviously, but still, to each his own... I like 1PP. I don't like 3PP in a multiplayer game with a certain level of competitiveness between players which allows players to exploits some features to gain certain advantages. We're not talking about a game like GTA 5 for example, that now has 1st person perspective for PC and modern consoles. With it's multiplayer, we can have the same type of interactions where a player in online mode, in 1st person perspective not seeing another player around the corner and getting killed by him. The consequences are very different. Pressing a button to respawn faster, or waiting for a timer to respawn with only the clothes on yourself and a flashlight, on the shoreline. That's the only thing that really bothers me, but we have 1PP servers for that so I'm ok. In the end, I think that even if DayZ would become 3rd person only, I would still continue playing it anyway, as I really enjoy this game. -
Failed hold ups – Attempting to capture 3 armed players near Zelenogorsk [11:18]

 Narcissism at it's best... Press tab and voilà, you can see your character... Cheat and exploit all day if you want, or look at your character for 5 hours straight, I don't care, just don't come here complaining about how the game will be without it's 3rd person camera exploits... Too easy to get involved in pointless debates, to each his own. <_< It's so funny how people defend this flawed feature for a multiplayer game. No one came here complaining about being killed in 3rd person. Back on topic, Sobieski provides some of the best videos of players hold-ups and encounters out there and I respect that. The first comment not being about his video and only being a complain about the changes to the cameras to try and remove it's exploit-ability was pretty much like putting gas on an already lit fire. -

odin_lowe replied to sobieski12's topic in Gallery
Which is why I play 1PP 99% of the time... But that being said, multiplayer games like DayZ shouldn't have 3PP to begin with. I play this game for the survival aspects of the game, but again, at least 70% of the players are in for the "pvp". Just check out YouTube or Twitch to see how the majority of either players, or those who follows the YouTubers/Streamers, enjoy the game to see it's mostly for the "pvp". Heck, most of those players get pretty competitive too. You don't see competitive games like BF4 or CS:GO have 3PP so players can exploit that, as there's already to many cheaters and exploiters as is... Thus the reason to change the 3rd person camera, to level the field and make 3PP more enjoyable, and less cheat like. Most of Sobieski's videos are on 1PP servers, or at least he plays in 1PP most of the time.
