I have an idea for helping with the KOS problem. Rocket should read.
Lorax replied to Rzach's topic in General Discussion
If anything this is more hardcore, I like it. Real consequences for your actions, also this wouldn't be implemented until much later and by that time zombies will be more plentiful and hopefully more dangerous. -
are people trying to make the SA to friendly?
Lorax replied to dgeesio's topic in General Discussion
I agree with everything you said except you can gain something from a new spawn. If you talk with them and decide they have a good head on their shoulders you can gain something even greater than the most powerful gun in the game...a smart ally. I've created a nice little network talking to new spawns and helping the ones that don't seem like idiots, it's fun and in the end protects me later down the road. -

just got done with the first one, what server do you play on? I play on the BMRF US2 first person only. I'd love to join sometime. I also hangout in the NE and would be honored to be a deputy. -
I'm glad to hear it, my suggestion is if you head up to the NE you tend to find a few more people who aren't quite as hostile. It's kinda where people go for supplies who really don't want to run into other people. So if you run into others they are usually not as aggressive, but don't let your guard down. Also 1st person only servers are the way to go.\/ So you should check out the BMRF US2 first person only server. You can find it at the IP 23.250.112.170 on Port 2302. BMRF is a great community, very large, and they will get very high end servers once they are allowed to do a private hive. Eventually you'll need to be whitelisted, but it is worth it.

I think you make a good point, and thank you for trying to play as civil as you are IRL
-
Please don't quit the game, yes it is frustrating but the intensity and stress is what makes it so unique. I try to interact with people, but as soon as anything gets fishy I become aggressive. I suggest you do the same. Don't just fall into the KOS mentality because it makes the game one dimensional, but remember it is a fail safe to survive. That being said you never know who has a friend hiding, and the guy who messed with me after I made contact got a bullet in the back from my buddy. All that said I've made several friends in game because of interactions, so don't give up trying to interact with people. Anyways if you are still getting frustrated feel free to message and we'll play for a night.

The only way I could see it make some sense is this. 1. must not be a head shot 2. must bandage player before 3. must give blood transfusion or saline before 4. must not be dead for more than a few minutes (not sure when brain damage occurs) 5. when you shock someone to bring them back there is only a chance they'll come back 6. The chance they'll come back is reduced for every impact to the body. For example 50% for 1 bullet/axe hit, 25% for 2 bullet/axe hit. (though this may be hard to program as because your character will already have several hits from zombies and such from the days before.

are people trying to make the SA to friendly?
Lorax replied to dgeesio's topic in General Discussion
I don't think they are trying to make it nicer, just more survival oriented and in their vision of what the most likely scenario would be. In a situation like this it would be very hard for people to survive by themselves, teamwork would be a must. At this moment as well as the mod you can lone wolf it so easily. Also once zombies actually become a threat (more, harder hitting, greater infection rate) it will shift peoples focus on surviving than just building kill count. Also make food and drink much harder to come by and manage. You won't be killing a bambi just to have 20 zombies running at you that can actually deal damage. Of course PvP will be in the game as it should be, but it will hopefully be lessened to make for a more dynamic experience. The reason I'm tired of the KOS fad is that it makes the game one dimensional. There will always be some people out there who will do it and that's fine since it adds some spice. But the reason of KOS right now is to kill just to kill. and that is just boring and not realistic. Very rarely does the KOSer directly benefit from the kill (ie gear, or eliminate threat). I would like to see supply spawning greatly reduced to make everything more valuable. I think someone mentioned that once loot spawning is fixed they'll tone it down, which I hope so. If you make gear rare and the damage actually matter (stuff not working or getting sick from damaged food and meds) that will reduce KOS for gear at least and increase the interaction of robbery. I would also like to see some balanced way of wanting to keep your character alive aside from just collecting gear. Possibly even not being able to spawn for 15-30 min after you die, also you can't loot your own body. If the game is made to be very hard, which is what they are aiming at I believe, this should create a more dynamic experience and not the 1 dimensional KOS fad we see now. -
So people getting kicked and banned by Battleeye are hackers?
Lorax replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
I for one am absolutely thrilled they did this, though I wish they did it right before they put out a higher version and increased the price. Therefore if the cheaters wanted to play that badly they'd have to pay even more than they originally paid for the game. Really if you are trying to cheat in DayZ, then it just isn't the game for you. I could go on and on about this, but anybody worth a damn reading this knows what I'm talking about. No need to preach to the choir. P.S.- I was hearing about the bans on FB and got worried and thought I shouldn't play until they figured out whatever was going on. Now I realize it was just a bunch of cheaters complaining they couldn't cheat anymore. -
So the title says it all. In one day it went from decent fps in Berezino to almost unplayable fps. I've even dropped all settings with no change. Has anyone else had a problem with this? I'm wondering if it is something server side or client side. Thanks

having more than one character. thoughts?
Lorax replied to chewythefirst's topic in General Discussion
THis will basically happen once private hives are allowed, until then just be happy to have one character and test on the Devs experimental server for a second character. If you do make sure you actually help them test what they need to test and just don't go running around doing whatever you want to. -

My First Murder ( DayZ Standalone Experience )
Lorax replied to XLuckyZeroX's topic in New Player Discussion
I haven't even had to fire my weapon yet at a human, as I usually keep hidden. After a few days of playing with one's head low and far away from populations you tend to gear up pretty quickly, so engaging someone to take their gear isn't something I do. Also, I try to play the game as I would IRL. I too am up in Berezino and wouldn't mind getting together at some point. I do like to play on first person servers though, but would be happy to play where ever you want to. I play with several other people but our schedules have been so sporadic that we are scattered across the map. I would have done the same exact thing you did. Hit me up if you want to play at some point, I live in central USA, -
I guess I should take my gas mask off, but keeping the helmet. Got to protect the skull.

Why do people think there would be more civilian weapons than military?

<<<< [How to] Improve random player killing. >>>>
Lorax replied to Zeeb (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Those are pretty much my setiments, and I have stated that before on forums. I've thought about the once you die you can't join for a day thing as well, but haven't said that...I like it. Also I think your tent should disappear as well. -
I'm assuming, and what I hope for, that once SA is fully released and they deal with the initial support resources will be diverted to building additional maps. Instead of making a DayZ-2 I would rather they create a different country every year or two to keep it fresh, with maybe some updated features as well. I wouldn't want a bunch of maps right away because that would dilute server populations.
-
^^^What those two said. And yes I've tested it and there is no difference between the two sounds. I'm sure they'll get it right eventually, just not on their priority list.

Are there First Person only servers and without crosshair?
Lorax replied to JulioRey's topic in General Discussion
That is a good point. Maybe the pointer only shows up on the screen when you have your weapon lowered, or when you activate the action menu. That way you can use it for looting but not for shooting. -
How about Balota airfield military loot getting removed?
Lorax replied to Twixxer's topic in General Discussion
Really I think they added too much military loot over all. It didn't take me long to get fully geared up, even less time than the Mod. Balota was beefed up and then 3 military bases on the west side of the map is too much. And they didn't do anything on the east side, except at NEAF that I know of? In fact they took out Berezino's military tents. Really it doesn't make that much sense that there are barracks at Balota, even the military office/jail building doesn't make that much sense. Medical tent area does make sense as the military would try to set some type of outpost for civilians. I don't mind the many different areas to find military loot, but should be greatly reduced. Hell I found far more m4's than I ever found Mosins....never found a shotgun yet. In fact I've never had a mosin and ammo at the same time. -
How can we make a players life more important than his gear?
Lorax replied to knawx's topic in General Discussion
I think you are missing the point of this thread. We don't want you to care about your gear more than your life. Also, my suggestion is even more tied to gear since you'll lose your tent as well if you are killed. -
Is it me or does the drink and food meter drop too fast?
Lorax replied to spuddy0108's topic in General Discussion
If hunger and thirst is reduced then I suggest food and drink spawns be reduced as well. In fact I would like that anyways. Also you shouldn't be able to eat 4 cans of beans or an entire bag of rice in one sitting. You shouldn't be able to eat 2000 calories in one sitting without getting sick, or fully hydrate yourself in one sitting either. It takes time for your body to process the food and drink. If I were to have it my way I would reduce the rate of your food and drink usage, reduce the spawning of food and drink, and make it so you can't just stuff yourself immediately and fix your starving and dehydrated character. -
How can we make a players life more important than his gear?
Lorax replied to knawx's topic in General Discussion
I would like hardcore servers to delete tents once people die, and prevent you from being able to loot your body. I believe this would make for a great experience. I want the life to be a life. That would really make encounters that much more stressful. I doubt anyone would agree to this though. I also vote yes for acquired skills that would be lost at death. I don't want the skills to be over powered, but make it worth your while to keep. Also I like the idea of a teams benefiting from different players with varied skills. Also skills shouldn't be based on time of life, but what you do. -
Playing alone is very doable. That was how I originally played, but now I work with a select few. The first person I started working with was another lone wolf. Really two lone wolves getting together works very well. They understand each others mentality, both self sufficient, approach situations very similarly, but with a two person team things don't get out of hand and you can easily disappear into the woods.
