Update Rev. 0.36.115535 (Experimental branch)
Lorax replied to Hicks_206 (DayZ)'s topic in News & Announcements
the rain indicator is unneeded, and I'm not just talking about the audio. Just have text at every level of dampness, no audio. When running under trees is goes back and forth all the time. Yes a tree can keep you dry a little bit but not that much, so if you have to just make trees useless at protecting you from rain. -
Well I'm crashing when ever I change a video setting that needs to reset the screen. It also crashes when I alt-tab. I think it has something to do when it stop feeding frames then it crashes...or something like that. I really have no idea what I'm talking about

Difficult to find a hardcore server with a reasonable population
Lorax replied to stealth_katsu's topic in New Player Discussion
I will say that my home server "Katastrophe" had 30+ every night until a few nights ago, now the population has dropped off greatly. Maybe there habe been connection issues or something, but that is just a guess. -
So did you make it to the hospital?

Damn I want those P.S.- great profile pic, lol

Does anyone know if there will be variable stances in DayZ SA such as ARMAIII? I haven't found anything on that yet. Thanks

Dyslecxi shows just how amazing 1PP only is in NEW video.
Lorax replied to Sidewinder24's topic in Gallery
I disagree with you entirely. No one is really talking about 3pp exploit during combat, it is about prior to combat or lulls during the battle. You can set up a prepare easier in 3pp without giving you position away, you can see over the tops of hills, you get an unrealistic field of view. Did you even watch the video and listen to his comments? I see first person as creating the immersion and 3pp as breaking it. I'm interacting with the world not a character I'm controlling. I've heard your argument before and I just don't understand it. Immersion means that you are there, not that you have a 3 person view of what is going on like some out of body experience in a dream. 1pp is much better for survival horror realism. Try playing at night 1pp in a town full of zombies and tell me that isn't scary. You can't see that will and the zombies get up in your face. Walking around a corner and not knowing what is there is much scarier than already knowing it is there. Go prone and crawl, you can see anything, crawling in 3pp you can see the entire block still. Doesn't really strike fear into me. You have a very skewed idea of immersion and what 1pp players really find interesting with this game. For the most part 1pp seem more concerned with making the game harder and more survival oriented. Also most of my friendly interaction have come in 1pp servers. It seems to me that we are more concerned about the experience than 3pp players. -
Mine was fairly glamorous. Met up with two people (Graphite and Morgbot) who were part of Katabasis's streaming crew (first time meeting). Graphite was just shot and killed at The Rifty shipwreck and Morgbot got away. There were two enemies there and one of them at least got hit once. So I decided to help these fair nature fellow exact revenge and get their gear back. I have Graphite my .45 as I still had a M4 and rarely use it. Graphite then strips down to just his wool hate in preparation for battle :) Morgbot and I flank around from Berezino and approach the hill from the North. We crawl from tree to tree (1pp only server) while Graphite charges in to create a diversion and because he had his warrior underwear on. He is killed immediately obviously. I heard generally where the shot was fired so after 5 minutes or so of crawling from tree to tree I finally spot the perpetrator. A quick burst and he was done. Very satisfying since it took patience, stealth, and was in retribution for a killing. Also made some good player buddies that I continue to play with after that. It's fun saving the day. Side note Morgbot got to kill a logger from that same crew also, so props goes to him as well.

We NEED some way to identify heros and bandits.
Lorax replied to 1S1K-Airborne's topic in General Discussion
NO. I do not bandit but I don't want some artificial augmentation to the character to make it easier to distinguish playing style. I like the need to have to observe people, use your power of deduction, and make a split second decision on how to react to a person. That is what makes the game so good, and I don't want a mechanic to dumb it down. The karma system was broken in the mod and we should be making steps forward, not backwards. How many of you were playing friendly in the mod but because of certain situations you ended up with a bandit skin because you defended yourself or someone else. Karma is broken and there is no way to fix that I can think of. Let the Devs finish the game. There is so much coming that it may change the playing styles of players, and how interactions occur. Wait for them to finish the game before you demand any type of drastic change to the way player interaction occurs. Player interaction should be organic, in that it is based on the environment and situation at hand...not augmentent by a forced mechanic -
I apologize for this question in advance...
Lorax replied to phamilton82's topic in New Player Discussion
I would maybe get on a server with 15-20 people. The reason is loot only spawns at server restarts so it will be hard for you to find enough food to get off the coast safely. You definitely want to look up nutirtional information on the forum, just search for it and you'll be able to find what you need. Because you are "tired" only means you're hungry or thirsty. Other than that have fun exploring and figuring the game out :) -
Beans for me!!!! :)

First considering SA had been pushed back several times, and 3 months ago they were already testing server stability I can't say that I feel sorry for you. It was pretty much a given that they were going to get it out before Xmas. So I would do this. Play the hell out of that mod this next month or so. Download secondary mods Epoch and Aftermath and play those as well. Epoch has a lot of content and is more forgiving...Aftermath is less forgiving with less features. I personally like Aftermath. If you enjoy those mods and want an even more in depth, smoother, and visual game then get SA. But get it sooner than later before the price goes up.

BTW EVERYONE!!! He didn't KOS him. KOS by definition is kill on sight. He on the other hand handcuffed him, talked to him, deliberated to himself, and came to the conclusion the just and safest thing to do would be to kill him. That is not KOS, that is good DayZ player interaction. 99% sure he is a server hopper is a high enough % for me. If he lost connection by accident a day ago he should have went to a zero pop server and got out of there. If he forgot where he lost connection then he is just stupid and killing stupid people is good for this world. Kudos good sir.

LOL, I was waiting to see him wake up and there be some ridiculous shit show.

You are ignorant. In one month of play I have gone between many different servers. Especially the first week when there were so many problems with servers...I think I had already filled it up by the second or third day. Also going to play with friends tends to make you jump around from one to another the next day. Now we've settled on 4 1st person servers that we will choose dependent on which one is populated and/or working well. You know some days servers are just not doing well for whatever reason. Or you are a troll,
-
I vote to allow server admins to set it. Really there are days that I don't mind it and have had some entertaining conversations, but most when I'm there to play for real I don't want it. It clutters, reduces immersion, and reduces the importance of direct chat

You know, after trying a bunch times I couldn't figure it out either. Nothing when I google it.

Color degradation from blood loss has to go (loss of visual fidelity)
Lorax replied to alleycat's topic in General Discussion
LOL Actually I would like tunnel vision. Also does anyone know if you slow down when you are low on blood? I haven't gotten very low and neither have my mates...at least not without dying :) If not I think it should be implemented -

I think you need to work on your fps then, there are plenty of threads about it ranging from start up parameters, augmenting config files, to hyper-threading. Also I would be very disappointed if there was no visual distortion for being injured, but I don't have to worry because I know Rocket isn't going to nerf this. If anything it will become more difficult to survive as more functionality is implemented after injury, which I'm really looking forwarded to. As of yet I haven't shaken from pain yet, or limped from an injury. (I remember a trailer of closed testing when there was a limping player....excited). Point of the story is not to get injured, simple as that. I'm sure infections will be turned up too later on...or at least I hope they will. This isn't a brawler game and if you're in a prolonged melee battle with a zombie you've done something wrong. Try being more sneaky, only engage a zombie if you have an axe, try not to engage in the first place, if get aggro with a blunt weapon try running away and hiding, and only stay and fight if you need to. -
Hyperthreading, Core Parking & Launch Parameters for best performance?
Lorax replied to andrewmont's topic in General Discussion
Ya, my CPU does have HT and I'm going to try turning it off. I'm new to this messing around with your CPU thing and trying to do as much research as I can before I do anything drastic, or take the time to figure out how to even do anything :) I'm going to try to remove my HT and see how that works, only one way to find out. I think you are right though and with HT off all my cores should be used at all times, and I could see how stuttering could occur with them turning on and off. Thanks, and thanks to everyone else who has given input. This has been one of the most helpful threads. -
I'm against waypoints as well.

Would you like to play on our PRIMETIME server?
Lorax replied to seifeler's topic in General Discussion
Interesting idea, and I'm considering it. I like that you have experience doing a RP server and there are many people from your past server that giving their laurels. -
DayZ's Missed Connections (Find Your Combat Logger!)
Lorax replied to pacific_coast's topic in General Discussion
Exactly what he said. Logging out in places that are frequented by people is just stupid. Even buildings or anywhere near popular spots because people will hear you log in. Best place is outside in the cover of trees and bushes.
