    Hmm. That quote is a bit weird. In the movie, all they want to do is kill people. They go absolutely ballistic when seeing someone - anybody. You really should watch it, try doing it while stoned. You'll thank me when you reach the bit where they drive into the tunnel.
  3. The objects would not be hidden because you choose to play in 3rdP, they would be hidden because your character can't see them. They would be hidden to everyone, regardless of view settings. The way it is now, it is possible to sit on a roof top or behind a wall and shoot people with virtually no fear of retaliation. Because they can't see you, but you can see them. Do you think that creates more mindless playerkilling, or less? In the game though, they don't need to move into your peripheral vision, you can see them when they are perfectly still, prone, on the other side of a solid concrete wall.

    Well, except 28 Days Later. The zombies in Dayz are like the ones in that movie, with the infection and being alive and everything. If you haven't seen it, it is a highly recommended way to spend 113 minutes. You might also want to chill out a bit, reading this thread actually raised my pulse. That's not supposed to happen in a civil discussion.
  5. What if you had all that, and also this: Would that be acceptable? As far as immersion goes, I think the suspension of disbelief is an important part of it. When someone I can't see can watch me through a solid wall, said disbelief is no longer suspended. It is plummeting.

    I use AVG and I never had that 'false positive'. As others have said, make sure you download from a legit source.

  8. If this is possible it would be an excellent solution. Both 1st and 3rd would be viable ways to play, and with the exploitable aspects of 3rd person eliminated, we could all play together regardless of preference. Nice.
  9. Not on expert/merc servers, other servers might turn them off as well. Good thing too, 'cause they suck. I ask again, why would someone want to remove such an integral part of the experience? Why?? It boggles the mind.

    The problem with having only player activated sounds is that it would be very, very quiet out there. If you take a walk in a real forest you'll notice that it isn't all that quiet at all. In real life, birds don't sit around waiting for someone to walk by. They react to other birds, themselves, leaves, the wind, everything that sets something off in those twisted little birdbrains they have. Likewise, dead branches can be broken by the wind, or they can just snap off under their own weight. All these sounds should be there, not to scare you for the sake of scaring you, but to create an audible backdrop that'll make you feel like you are outside. They would also serve to mask the noises of someone trying to sneak up on you, but only if you aren't jumpy and checking out every little thing you hear. Picture this: You are walking around up north, the wind whistling in your ears, when you the sharp crack of a branch snapping some 30 meters away in a thicket. "Shit!" "Should I investigate?" "Nah, probably just the wind..." The gate sound though, I agree with you about. That should only play when somebody actually opens a gate. Or maybe never.

    I really hope the sound side of things will get an overhaul in the SA, but I'm afraid it's not high on the list of priorities. Has anyone seen Rocket make any noise on the subject?
  12. Hey, that's a great idea! Having a bunch of different maps to find, covering different areas and some of them with errors, would be a really nice addition to the game. To the suggestion forum! To think that something positive would come out of this thread...

    You kind of answered your own question there. But anyway, there are servers (good ones too) that allow sound mods. Try BMRF, they allow the JSRS mod. Have fun.

    Now that sounds intriguing, I might have to take a look. Do you have any custom stuff like buildings/vehicles/loot lists, or is it vanilla all the way? Do you have sidechat? ( if not, I'm sold).

    It would help you draw people in if you included the details of the server in your post. Most people have a pretty good idea whether they like crosshairs or not, 3rd person or not, and which timezone settings they prefer. Good luck with your server.
