You can have ambushes and backstabbery on a single server too. All this metagaming takes away from the experience in my opinion. It ruins the suspension of disbelief. All we need is the forest, a can of beans and a rusty Makarov. No magical portals, please.

Buy and install Arma 2: Combined Operations, then install DayZ through Dayzcommander. You can also use Dayzcommander to find and join servers.

Do you really want one? I think the game is much better when I don't know where everything is. Getting lost, then frantically running around looking for civilization on your last can of beans was the best thing ever. I'm going to try to avoid loot maps from external sources for as long as humanly possible.

Klesh is lying, he does that. The real failure was a fatal error in the space-time discombobulator which enabled the zeds to enter Rocket's condo in Zeleno. He had just gotten a frozen pizza out of the microwave when the first two burst through the door. "Eeeeeh!" screamed rocket. This was the second failure. The sound off the unusually high pitched scream echoed through the suburbs of SA-Zeleno, alerting every zed around. "My Kerbals!" yelled Rocket, as he leaped out a window. This was the third failure. Yep. Fifth floor. Sorry guys, there will be no standalone.

He has found some way to play 'Kerbal Space Program' from inside the server. I've heard he moved into a little two room condo in Zelenogorsk. He doesn't even talk to Matt anymore. Goodbye sweet prince, you were too beautiful for this world.

That's pretty shitty actually. Oh, and 'fuck'. -
I would not at all mind long animations (for loading machineguns and fixing cars for example), but I think it is important that you can cancel the animation halfway through. It really, really sucks to be trapped going through the cooking motions while somebody casually strolls up to you and shoots you in the neck.

I think an auto-run button would be just fine. I doubt I would use it much, but it wouldn't hurt me in any way. Comparing auto-run to auto-aim or saying it makes the game easier is absolutely bonkers. It doesn't make the game easier, it just makes your naughty finger hurt less.
