    Add a Food/Drink/Blood meter please

I thought the symbols the mod used were great. Usually, in real life, I know pretty much how hungry/thirsty I am all the time. The only difference they should do is to align button "T" for "Tactical view", meaning, the screen is empty, but when you press "T", the symbols pop up.

    First 30 Minutes Of Banditry!

I managed to go bandit as well last night. After looting Cherno and literally haven't found anything valuable except some food, clothes and a knife, I decided to head north. I am seeing 2 guys with rifles and they seemed to be well equipped in general. After establishing contact with them from cover, I told them I am unarmed and new to the game and asked if they can help me find some food. They agreed and took me north of Cherno to the new apartment complex. Since we heard shots in Cherno itself, I suggested we loot 3 different buildings at the same time and meet in front of the buildings in 15 minutes. I found handcuffs, a pistol with one mag, some food and drinks. So we meet up again and again we hear shooting so we run together into the forest and discuss what we have found and to trade our loot. I told them that I only found food and handcuffs. "Cool" one of the survivors said. "I really want to test those out". "Not on me, since I heard stories of people betraying each other. I am willing to drop them on the ground and you can have them. Just don't shoot me". So I drop the handcuffs on the ground and stand there without anything in my hands. The one guy picks up the handcuffs and tells me to stay where I am while he is handcuffing his buddy. I must assume he went to his control settings to figure out how to do, so I quickly put my pistol into my hands. Finally I see them going through the animation process and just to reconfirm, I ask: "And? Does it work? Any special button to press?" "Yeah well, it's so cool they implemented this. My buddy wants to test how long it takes him to free himself". I reply: "We'll never know". Then I shot that guy down, his buddy slowly walking away from me. "I assume sprinting with handcuffs is difficult, huh?". Then I knocked him out with my fists. I stole everything useful out of them and ran into the apartment buildings to see if they come back. After 20 minutes I gave up and left. It's good to see friendlies are around and usually I am friendly as well. But I love exploiting ignorance and goodwill in this game. If they don't learn caution through me, some of you bandits will teach them. I prefer my way as it fills my backpack. :D

    TEMPORARY TROUBLESHOOTING TOPIC

No idea if it has been solved, but I read some people are having problems with their mouse not being responding/invisible/acting weird. (topic has been locked so I am replying here). This is usually a problem when your monitor allows you eg. 1920x1080 resolution, but you chose to use higher/lower resolution for the game. Set the ingame resolution as your desktop resolution. For Windows 7, there is another thing that might fix the mouse problem. If you let your desktop icons being displayed as very large/large, this causes the mouse cursor being weird ingame. Set the symbols as 'normal'. I am confident this solves the problem (as odd as this sounds), as I had the same issues with invisible/weird responding cursors in Men of War Assault Squad, Max Payne 3, Red Orchestra 2 and Sleeping Dogs. Try it via: rightclick on desktop>display> (I am not on a WIN 7 PC right now, but the path is sth like that). PS: If a mod wants to try this solution, confirm it and post it somewhere else, please do so. I am lacking time today.

Stuck in a wall... can't force respawn

Had the same problem in Cherno. Try running towards a wall and press v. Worked for me: I jumped through the wall again into the open... Not a fix, but a chance mate.

    You feel thirsty... FFFFFFF

I never understood why they went back to text messages. I also liked the mod's interface with one simple difference. Make it that pressing the 'T' button opens the hud, such as "Tactical View". The screen should be completely empty of messages etc, except for as long as you press 'T' and see how hungry and thirsty you are.

    every server is dark

Wow. It just took less than 6 hours to seperate men from boys that are afraid of the dark. Congrats. 24/7 daytime server are worse than cancer.
  7. Thanks. Believe it or not, I only used twitch for the first time when rocket streamed last friday. That means, I am totally unfamiliar with twitch.
  8. Will the twitch stream be recorded? I mean, is it guaranteed? I soon will have to go to sleep and I am really curious of what happens. Sure, I will read it on the forums, but would love to see the twitch thing later on. Anyone?
  9. 7 minutes til release. I got it in my pee...
  10. Regarding 1. The world you are playing in remains the same no matter the server with the exception of your vehicles and tents that you chose to place. The environment (cities, mountains etc.) stays the same. The pool of other survivors changes but that just adds to the feeling of "I have no idea what's going on in a zombie apocalypse. I would hardly call that problematic. In fact, you have access to a greater pool of potential stories through the access to 100s of thousands of other players. Write that story with YOUR character. 2. If I have a tent in the woods and switch to a server where the tent is not transfered, then so be it. The tent is still there on the server I had it placed. I chose to switch servers because I couldn't find whatever I searched for on the server I placed the tent. AND, I can return to my tent whenever I want by switching back to the server. Having multiple characters alive is far more immersion breaking to me. I want to play as "Sensemann". I am alive, I am unique. If I get killed, I restart and be "Sensemann" again. I simply don't want to have "Sensemann 1" with tent and car alive on server #1 and because the server is full, have to start with "Sensemann 2" on server #9. While connecting, I figure that I have had "Sensemann 29" still alive there and I am far off what I wanted to initially do with "Sensemann 1". I hope that's confusing enough now and brings across my reasons of why my character is far more important to me than a tent that I use once in a while and it not appearing on all servers with me. 3. How many times have you been a victim of someone server hopping? I know it's hard to judge, but to me, in approx. 800 hours of DayZ playtime, I am positive that it has happened to me maybe 3 times (2 times with 100% confirmation). I am not willing to give up a basic game mechanic that 100% affects each time I play for reducing the exploits of 1% that, I am sure, will find another way to beat the system with whatever else exploits they can figure. That's the sadness of online gaming. Anyways, nice discussion with you. Keep it real.
  11. At the time of having multiple characters on different servers, many players had one character that was alive for several weeks and which they cared for. They wouldn't go into Cherno, guns blazing, and risk being shot. BUT, during the times of different characters on different servers, people can easily switch on a server and set up a new character, gear up and go extreme PVP to have some fun. This is fun to them because they don't care getting killed while they think they are destroying other players long-worked-on characters, just for the giggles. That's the mentality that I don't want in DayZ, as that's exactly the point that DayZ was standing out for. It wasn't about killing one another in the first place. It was about surviving as long as possible in the first place. It changed with DayZ's popularity and was completely destroyed when those bizarre "All you can eat" servers popped up. If I wanted to play that, I'd play Arma 3 (which I do). DayZ was designed to be different and DayZ should stay different. 1 Single character that you can "transport" to different servers to continue YOUR STORY is what made DayZ so attractive to me and I must assume most others, prior to the PVP-for all costs-times.
  12. The whole DayZ mod went downhill when everybody and their mother could host servers and add a quadrouplezillion vehicles, weapons and what not in it. That time, DayZ became a simple FPS which included finding a weapon. Having more than 1 character further ridiculed the initial idea to stay alive as long as possible, because, you weren't writing "YOUR STORY" anymore. You didn't feel attached to your character anymore AT ALL. What I was suggesting is not accomodating to players with less playtime. In fact, it's the fairest situation a game can provide. People with more time for the game will get more experience and most likely find more and better stuff. That's simply how it is. No game can really change that and in DayZ, that shouldn't change either. My suggestion with tents not being accessible for the person who set it up once dead is of course leaving a backdoor open for those in clans. But in which game is a clan not in advantage towards a single player? In the mod, a lot of players, including me, often played at times with low player counts. Set up tents everywhere, stash them with weapons, food and other items. Get killed, go to one of your tents and be ready to KOS within 30 minutes. THAT's what my suggestion should help minimizing. I don't care about streamers and I am not suggesting what I said for streamers. However, I have been a victim of "teleporting" of players (through logging into other servers and relogging into the server where I played) more than once. It's just god damn awful. Suggesting more than 1 character per player is minimizing the value you have with your character. It heavily supports KOS mentality and do stuff that you wouldn't do if you had only one character. The whole DayZ mod went downhill from the moment you had multiple characters and thousand tons of loot easily available to everyone.
  13. 12 people online right now MUST mean that the release is at 12pm European time. ETA: 1 hour, 11 mins
  14. Regarding multiple characters: I am strictly against it. I am sure that I know most of the pro & con's of having only 1 single character as well as having multiple characters. As much as I appreciate Katana67's points and I am actually agreeing that many points are valid, the reason for me being against it is simply consistency. There are players that can invest 100 hours a week into the game and there are players that can invest 10 hours a week into a game. Meaning: People with a lot of time are at an advantage anyway. Now for the amount of time I have to put into the game, I want consistency. I log out at Stary Sobor on sunday night? I want to respawn again at Stary Sobor on friday evening. No matter which server I enter. I want to continue with my character and continue to write my DayZ story. The one point, besides servers that offered 1000+ vehicles & a mini-nuke-AK 107 flamethrowing M 16 as starter gear, was that there was no more persistancy in gameplay. You logged out and played on another server the next day? You start from 0. You have a 52 days old character and are totally geared (happened to me once) and your regular server shuts down? You start from 0. This is not what I want to play. Every time I play, I face better geared players who spent more time into the game than me. Or I face multiple team members of a clan that are managing several vehicles and helicopters. So what? This doesn't affect me as long as I don't get in touch with them. The problem of server-hopping should be targeted on different ancles. First, make it that tents are not accessible to the player who set them up once he died. Once he died, leave the tent active for 24 hours in case other players find it. This will reduce a lot of the heavy gearing of people (besides, maybe even reducing PvP as gearing up again is the same for everyone). Maybe it's possible to create "zones" on the map on which server hopping is randomized. For example, somebody that is on a full server at the airfield and wants to switch to a server with lower player numbers, to loot with ease, gets respawned in a radius of 1 kilometer of his location. Same should apply for any building, as in "you cannot respawn inside a building you logged off. This would greatly reduce stream snipers or guys that go to locations on other servers on which they know a sniper is located, just to spawn near them. But DON'T, and I cannot say it too many times, allow multiple characters. If anything is as much as immersion breaking, it's having multiple characters.

Quick update for 4 December 2013

What are you talking about? i5-4760k, GTX 760 twinfrzr, 8 gigabyte of ram and an Asus P67(?) Motherboard. Arma 3 runs between 35-60 fps on singleplayer, multiplayer, missions that I host or missions that I play with a friend who is 10,000 km away. Sorry to say it, but get a better system if you have performance issues. I don't buy a Fiat Punto and expect to outclass a Lamborghini either...
  16. Release coming up next tuesday (10th of December). Mark my words. If not by then, well I was wrong.

    November Round-up

This morning, I got up and it was a sunny day with blue sky (oh wonder). I boiled my coffee and my toast with marmelade tasted specially good. When I went to the metro, the traffic lights showed green all the time, nobody trying to cut my way and nobody spitting in front of me either. I then stepped into the metro and luckily as I am, it just opened its doors and despite 20 people pushed in, the metro was empty enough for me to squeeze in as well. The ride was exceptionally convenient, we skipped 2 stations and I arrived office early enough to buy a coffee AND have a smoke while not being late. Work didn't hold any trouble and time flew by. On the way back home, rush hour was bearable, I walked back home without interference and when I opened the door, I could smell my wife's cooking who cooked one of my favorite German dishes. She even thought of putting a wheat beer into the fridge. So here I am, thinking it's xmas, noticing that it's not the 24th of December and I open the dayz forums. To my surprise I am not logged in and when I do and check this thread, I see "DemonGroover" (DayZ forum team member) posting 2 times (page 193 and page 196) about the hype train. To me, this is a sign. It can't be anything else...........it's the sign that I have to refill my beer. Prost!

    November Round-up

http://www.reddit.com/user/rocket2guns "Agreed. I'm not sure if I will get this done in time, but my current plan is to revise our system of spawning in a player." Since they are already working on the spawning in of players, I'd really like to see new spawnpoints. In fact, I much rather prefer to start inland. Go halfway from Kamenka to Zhelenogorsk. Make a line from west to east. Do the same for the eastern coast (like 2 kilometers inland). On those lines, players should spawn. Reason being: The coast gives players a fixed point of focus to figure where exactly they are. Navigating yourself to some sweetspots is easy from the coast. Especially when you know right after spawn "Ah, Electro (or Cherno) is just 1 km that direction). Now imagine spawning inland, somewhere in the woods, or somewhere in a field. You have far more difficulties determining where you are at. You might choose to go east to figure out that you have reached the end of the map after 15 minutes of walking. Now that would be interesting. Also, imagine how much more tension it brings if you get spawned on a night time server and all you can see is the darkness, the moon and the spawn. Additionally, this would make cities like Cherno and Electro more valuable than a quick "gear up and head north" point. Your first real challenge is to actually reach them in one piece. I have played DayZ on a russian server a couple of times in which you could spawn anywhere on the map and I just loved this feeling. I spawned inside the woods with a hatchet as starting gear. Actually, I made myself the story that I am a wood worker that woke up right after the zombie apocalypse. Not knowing where I was was really great and I was happy that I managed to find Zhelenogorsk after 40 minutes of going here and there without any idea of where I am at.

    November Round-up

I don't have real loot runs any more. Mostly because about 95 to 98% of the structures are enterable along with very few structures being non-enterable. If that's the case, I am wondering if high buildings like the Cherno hotel can actually be entered. My dream has always been that players can create a base in each and every room of each and every building. Imagine how that would change the players behavior. The usual Cherno-Stary-NW airfield tours would be lessened, because then, eveery village and every single building within these villages could result in finding a gold mine.
