Jeremy Blum has been working since 2003 (iirc) to get his game recognised. He was one of the original Devs of Red Orchestra before John Gibson took over as lead coder after leaving the America's Army coding team. Blum is now using the Source Engine after many years of UnrealEd coding and a brief attempt exploring CryEngine. All credits to Mr Blum for his tenacity and endurance but comparing Insurgency development in the manner that you have chosen to that of DayZ holds no credit. I do however recommend the latest Insurgency although the Source Engine is somewhat limited even when code is re-written.

I would go for the SA. The mod was good and still is but with the release of ArmA 3 and the different modifications that will come in the future leave ArmA2/CO a little behind the times. My advice = DayZ SA and ArmA 3 (you just missed a sale).
