I make fires, crack a chem or throw a flare, I also light up a gas lamp and place in high places, chimneys/towers, doesn't make me a hero as such but always makes for interesting situations and rarely ends in death. @ OP : GG you are a hero in my eyes.

The Mod is fraught with problems and servers are few. There are spin offs of the official DayZ mod but they do not truly represent DayZ. Prefer the DayZ Stand Alone. To answer your question the mod runs run strictly from arma .

What do you mean " because now I just can't play." ? Once you have set the options click on the Change Server tab. Select a server (public) with good ping and some players and join. You will need to accept the BattlEye agreement before joining (may require a download/update). There are three (3) settings you need to take note of. Ping lower = better Mode = 1st/3rd person or 1st person only. Hive Public or Private (Public for you at this time).

Quack quack... What makes you think this will effect 3rd/1st person or how you "have" to play. Nothing is engraved in Bone at this time anyway. Don't panic. -
9/10 you can get out of these situations buy crouching/vaulting/stepping/rolling out of the situation, mashing teh keys (as they say).
