"A silly mask popular among the children of Chernarus. Most commonly worn during bandit activities."
-
The Winchester did a lot of damage close up. It fired the most damaging bullets of any weapon in the mod within the first 20 meters (after the .50s were removed). I don't expect the 10/22 will do too much damage at any range.
-
Ignoring the other stuff, focusing on the Marlin: [a] lever-actions of any type aren't at all common in Europe why the 1893 instead of the Winchester 1894? [c] why the 1893 instead of the 36 or 336? [d] it doesn't even add much to the game if it's not in .357 Don't want to see a lever-action of any type, the only reasons to add any type of lever-action in the Chernarus setting would be to [a] make more use of .357 ammo and satisfy cowboy junkies and the mod's Winchester fans (both poor reasons to add items). They are not common firearms in that part of the world. Dean once said he wanted to make an American map in the future; there you go. I hope they keep them out of Chernarus. Although if they want to add one anyways I doubt they'll so much as pause to think about this, cue Colt Python.

Such an old thread... you can't properly compare them, different games, the fully-equipped Mosin is better because [a] it's often a one-shot kill and the Mosin is almost perfectly accurate with either bipod or compensator and a properly-functioning long-range scope. As well the scope has variable magnification and if you move your FoV slider you can double it. The CZ's only advantage is that you can press "R" to reload faster. If you ignore the FoV slider then in ARMA the CZ is better because you can reload faster, the scope has more magnification, never shoots to the left, and it kills in one shot out to 900 or so meters and is still effective much further.

While an interesting idea, I don't think Moby-Dick is suited to the DayZ atmosphere. As for realism, sperm whales are not known to attack boats, and what are you going to attack the whale with? There are no harpoon cannons and it wouldn't be realistic to include them, there is no whaling in Chernarus. What would you even do with a whale anyways? Also, from what I understand, sperm whales prefer the high seas, the open ocean, and make very deep dives for extended periods, so good luck even seeing one. In addition to all that, Moby-Dick takes place in the early 19th century, the whale would be long since dead. As for the rest it's pretty reasonable. Boats. Bicycles. I don't see many problems there. Hot air balloons no. Helicopters before... that.

Just 2¢ from someone who has used these weapons in his day job

[1] If someone has a trouble with view distance at a mere 500 meters they probably don't even meet minimum specifications and should find another game. [2] Did you ever play the mod? Or ARMA? Because I'm not aware of many 1000 meter kills with the mod's super-duper accurate M16s. I'm not even aware of any at all. [3] Where were all these people complaining M4A1s were unbalanced back in the mod? Oh wait... they didn't exist. They are a product of the new inaccuracy - some people don't like change, some people don't like being shot, and some people think anything Bohemia or Dean Hall types in is sacred and should not be questioned. [4] If you want to argue for less accuracy you have to argue for less accuracy with every weapon in the game. Your average Mosin is not a veryaccurate rifle, your average SKS is not a very accurate rifle, you don't say the M4's inaccuracy is due to the player being "your average Joe" and then completely ignore that for other guns - what, he picks up some old bolt-action and turns into some kind of Daniel Boone shooting feathers off the Indian chief's head at 400 yards? -
The accuracy is already determined, they gave it an accuracy of... You know what, never mind.
-
They just need to change the number from "0.16" to "0.0623" and it would be a 4X scope, that would take seconds in Notepad.

What do you think of people calling Kill on Sight players ... "kids"?
-Gews- replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
I disagree, it's unsporting and a dick move, but not "cold", they're being a douche and wasting someone's time, not drowning puppies. -
6 foot spread at 100 yards.

Fun fact: all the M4A1s in the game, even with pristine Magpul parts, would fail to pass the military accuracy requirement... which itself is pretty lenient. The exception to that is when using the magic bipods. -
So we're getting this new muzzle device for the Mosin. What does it do? It increases accuracy. By how much? Same as a bipod plus prone. Does it reduce recoil or muzzle flip? Nope. So that got me thinking: Yeeeeah, almost time to drop those M4s... if that compensator can do that for the Mosin, looks like the AK-74's gonna be insane.

While digging through the game files I found some new guns
-Gews- replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
Supposedly it performs better on a range of barriers such as windshields, walls and structures of different types, etc. Performance on windshields specifically was apparently one of the complaints about M855 which led to M855A1. Also more penetration in animals due to lack of fragmentation. However the military steel-core 7.62x39 surplus was classified as an armor-piercing by the ATF and has been banned from import since 1994. -

It penetrates certain things better, other things worse... there are different types of penetration. Animals, Kevlar, ceramics, steel, wood, brick, concrete, different bullets perform differently in different mediums. -
"Soviet 7.62x39mm - The Soviet AK-47 Kalashnikov fires a full-metal-jacketed, boat-tail bullet that has a copper-plated steel jacket, a large steel core, and some lead between the two. In tissue, this bullet typically travels for about 26cm point-forward before beginning significant yaw. This author observed, on many occasions, the damage pattern shown in Fig. 2 while treating battle casualties in Da Nang, Vietnam (1968). The typical path through the abdomen caused minimal disruption; holes in organs were similar to those caused by a non-hollow-point handgun bullet. The average uncomplicated thigh wound was about what one would expect from a low-powered handgun: a small, punctuate entrance and exit wound with minimal intervening muscle disruption."

Does going prone improve accuracy with a rifle at all?
-Gews- replied to thequantum's topic in New Player Discussion
It makes your aim steadier, it doesn't improve the precision. Going prone with a bipod improves the precision, but doesn't make your aim steadier. Go figure. -
You can "zero" your shotgun? They don't have adjustable sigh... Sigh.
-
You can buy the civilian version here. They are quite expensive and subject to significantly less regulations than AR-15s. Not sure what other countries they are selling them in right now, if any.

Hatchet as an alternative to axes (idea proposal: discuss)
-Gews- replied to crazykage's topic in General Discussion
When you say "wood splitter" are you speaking of the splitting axe? Because it appears smaller and much lighter than the fire axe to me. They should add a proper hatchet, for Chernarus survival there's not much reason to go to the trouble of carrying around full-sized axes and they shouldn't even make very good weapons. -
I think some of the optics needs more magnification
-Gews- replied to TheWizard14's topic in General Discussion
Fixed. -
Let's be honest: if some random person had, 6 months ago, had made a thread suggesting adding the masks from "Payday 2" to the DayZ mod, he would have been laughed out of the forum.
