How much authenticity is too much?

You're actually NOT supposed to go digging in there just to remove the bullet, so I don't like that idea. I know someone who's been living with a bullet in them for ages and it's fine. And besides - the bullet may very likely not even stay in the body, removing a bullet every time you got shot would be crazy. "Retained bullets rare cause complications and surgical attempts to find and remove these bullets usually cause more harm than good, if they are even successful." "However, first aid treatment does not include the removal of deeply embedded objects, powdered glass, or any widely scattered material of this nature. You should never attempt to remove bullets"
  2. That is true, the previous owner may have sighted it in.
  3. Not only LRS, everything else from PUs to irons, otherwise it doesn't make sense.

    What is 5 Meters?

It should take into account the surface... fall on water, okay, fall on grass, so-so, fall on concrete, splat.
  5. Don't lower your scenecomplexity too much, it makes objects disappear to keep the polygons down.

    What is 5 Meters?

Falling off one of these is about 5m: From the cabin floor to the ground is about 11m:
  7. It's the perspective. It should be 11-1/2" overall.

More AK Gun Talk And Wish List Of Future Weapons

Err... he's right though. Looking at the 1958 manual: And if you go to the AK-47's Wikipedia page, and hit "Русский", it sends you to a page entitled merely "Автомат Калашникова" and says "In the USA, AK-like weapons are known under the generic name 'AK-47'". In the variants section it only lists "AK". In fact there's only one Russian mention of the word "AK-47" on the entire page, and that's the one about it being a generic name in the US. AK-47 is the colloquial abbreviation of "7.62mm Kalashnikov automatic rifle model 1947". If it were otherwise, we wouldn't have the simple name AKM, we would call them AK-47M. AK-74 on the other hand is official, hence AK-74M. But I will continue to say AK-47 because otherwise I would have to clarify each time, which would get old fast - it's an easy way of distinguishing, no use being pedantic.

More AK Gun Talk And Wish List Of Future Weapons

It's not completely "out there". I don't know where people would be supposed to find subsonic 7.62x39 though, which UNLIKE subsonic 5.56 (which is not used) was standard with the AKMS and PBS-1 suppressor. However even with suppressor AND subsonic ammo, it's still as loud or louder than an unsuppressed .22 LR. It's not "pewpewpewpewpewpewpew" like the silenced weapons in the mod.
  11. I don't see how, in all the values above, with military ammunition, they are in a dead heat in terms of energy. And the 7.62x54R uses a 9.6 gram (148 grain) bullet as standard military ball, 7.62x51 is 145-149 which is for all practical purposes identical weight. It says right on the box in the game, "LPS", that is 7.62x54R steel core light ball. For standard sniper loads the 7.62 NATO is also equal or superior in terms of energy: 7N1 and 7N14 are 152-153 grains at about 2,750 ft/s. M118LR is 175 grains at 2,600-2,700 ft/s. And any advantage increases with range as the 175 Sierra has a superior BC. As for commercial ammo... how about Wolf: Again, pretty much the same energies, apart from that 180 grain at 2,641 fps - but .308 factory loads will throw 180 grains at 2,620 fps. Most manufacturers load these two cartridges at very similar levels. You can load it up slightly hotter than the .308, no doubt, it has a larger case capacity. However here are some example loads from Hodgdon: .308 Winchester: 150 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip, 45.5 gr HXXXX, 2,870 fps 165 gr Hornady soft-point, 47.5 gr BXXX, 2,738 fps 180 gr Speer soft-point, 46.0 gr BXXX, 2,660 fps 200 gr Swift soft-point, 43.5 gr BXXX, 2,514 fps 7.62x54R: 150 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip, 55.5 gr BXXX, 3,027 fps 165 gr Barnes XBTC, 47.0 gr HXXXX, 2,761 fps 180 gr Swift Scirocco, 55.0 gr HXXXX, 2,692 fps 200 gr Speer soft-point, 52.0 gr HXXXX, 2,529 fps 820-835 m/s at 25m = 2,690-2,740 fps at 82 feet. Yes it should, they want to focus on more common and interchangeable types of ammunition, but they will have to accept that they can't use generic one-size-fits-all 7.62xEverything without upsetting people.
  12. Nope The velocity of 7.62x51mm M80 ball is specified as 2,750 ft/s at 78 feet per TM 43-0001-27 The velocity of 7.62x54R LPS ball is specified as 820-835 m/s at 25 meters (or at the muzzle depending on source) From TM 43-0001-27 From Soviet Army manuals That would mean about: 2,810 ft/s at the muzzle for 7.62 NATO 2,775 ft/s at the muzzle for 7.62x54R Poland's standards, tested in a laboratory, actually have the 7.62 NATO going some 3-4 m/s faster than the 7.62x54R, at the muzzle about 2,772 for x54R vs 2,785 for NATO. Like I said: with military loads and barrels of similar length, very little difference in terms of "horsepower". Even out a long 91/30 barrel there is little to no advantage. In reality there is no "muzzle velocity", there are "muzzle velocities", it varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, from gun to gun and from lot to lot of ammunition, there are nominal values.

    Civilian Weapon Suggestions

    They aren't any cheaper there.
  14. This should be fixed. With surplus ammunition, which is what is used in the game, I would not say it is superior; standard military bullet weights and velocities are extremely similar, 148 gr at ca. 2800 fps for the 7.62x54R, 147 gr at ca. 2800 fps for the 7.62x51mm, +/- a few grains and fps they are almost identical in terms of "power". And one is a much more modern and efficient design.
  15. Sure seems like a roleplaying perspective to me. Are you asking about what we'd do in real life then? Because in DayZ you can't be "the last survivor" of humanity, so I don't understand where these questions came from...
  16. Impossible, they respawn faster than you can eliminate them. Depends if I have a sniper rifle. No, I have plenty of human interaction, I'm not staring at my screen 24 hours a day. Not on purpose. I don't lead groups but I'd just check the player list. Yawn, switch to a populated server. I think you're looking at it from a roleplayer's perspective. Wrong perspective... And a really intense roleplayer at that...

Any love for the PKM ?

Some people don't want it cos it's military, I don't care, it's a common gun and it fits the setting, it shoul be in, period. It should have its drawbacks, would you want to carry one around for kilometers every day if you could have a lighter rifle instead? Neither would I, it's meant to be used to support others and with support from others, a rifle or carbine would be superior for the lone survivor and the game should reflect this.

SKS damage needs to be looked at.

I was about to say it shouldn't have much, if any, more damage relative to the M4, but then I remembered:

    Winchester 1895

I agree with dogfood, I just can't see Tsarist Winchesters popping up in Chernarus with any sort of regularity. They aren't often seen in Russia today either, and as an aside they weren't ever popular with Russian troops.

    New Gun B95

No. Just no. The Blaser B95 and B97 are accurate rifles.
  21. I'm of mixed opinion. You can't fully simulate shooting in this game. It is not feasible. A great many factors are left out. In addition shot placement is less crucial. If the firearm's true "mechanical precision" was used, there would be very few situations in which players would notice any important differences between the accuracy of most weapons. I am okay with some form of exaggerated dispersion PROVIDED the values are [a] based on real life logical [c] not frustratingly high and [d] implemented with the intent of increasing REALISM and not for any sort of "balancing".
