This gif made me laugh. http://i.imgur.com/cyLbCHg.gif EDIT: can't see it on black background.

It's not stupid, it's just different. There are different skills to learn. If you look at my post history you can see I have a one-track mind so it's no surprise. If shooting people wasn't part of the game they wouldn't have given us sniper rifles, combat helmets, bulletproof vests and ghillie suits. I've never been able to get into any kind of true role-playing game. Harmony belongs in Ponyville. If I wanted to socialize or help internet people... well, that's what the forums are for. : )

I bought the game to hide in the woods and shoot people. Like you said, it's your story. You wanna talk to people and have adventures, great, I'm happy for you. I'm not being sarcastic either, have fun with it. Meanwhile I'mma sit in Vybor with 36 rounds of steel-core 7.62.

Yes.

Sawn-off shotgun has "about 4x the spread of the full length @25m" according to Chris Torchia. They'll have the same damage (according to me). I could have sworn your page said something about 5.45mm last time I read it. I don't think they'd give the AK-74M the wrong ammunition.

Press play, close your eyes, what do you see?

For the first minute II saw Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers for Gameboy Advance After that the tune suddenly became upbeat and modern pop music, and I saw Farmer in the Sky... But then I realized that Queen's Radio Gaga had started playing in the background. When I turned it off I just saw LOTR again. Probably not what you're looking for. -
Not only do you need to drill and tap, you also need to inlet the stock which has not been done. Without tools and a workshop people shouldn't be able to attach these mounts. Also, the Mosin has a hex receiver. PU mounts were meant to fit high-wall round receivers. Not historically accurate, but you could argue it's the recent product of some random Chernarussian gunsmith.
-
Technically it shouldn't fit on the Mosin either. Heh.

What the fuck! Four times? The sawn-off version still has 12 inch barrels. Four times? Did he mean 1.4 times? Four times? I was worried about this ages ago and it seems to be coming true. Ragerageragerage.

But yes, the PTRD does not belong in the game.

And make your gun infinitely less useful for any type of combat.

The exterior ballistics system, the flight of the bullet from muzzle to target, is identical in ARMA 2, ARMA 3, and DayZ. The penetration seems superior in ARMA 3, but I couldn't tell you if that's an upgrade to the engine or just an upgrade to the properties of the various materials. Bullets also went through many things, lost energy and were deflected in ARMA 2. Dslyecxi never made a video on it because you couldn't do the coloured lines thingy so people seem to forget.

M4 in your hands and Mosin on your back, or visa versa?

Mosin in your hands and Mosin on your back >>> -
That would be funny actually >: ) I'd like a chance of knockout, not the certainty of knockout. And a chance of death. And also a chance of knocking the person to the ground. And also an extremelyshaky/blurry screen effect in both third and first person if you get punched in the nose, etc.
-
In that thread I believe I was actually arguing you should have a large chance to cause death, cerebral hemorrhage and irreparable brain damage, etc, not just knockout as happens currently with a headshot.
-
Because silly. I was concerned about simple/unrealistic knockout mechanics since early 2013... looks like it happened after all.
-
The Python is better for taking out a single player. The FNX45 is better if you run up against multiple players.

I fully expect them to change the accuracy before we get shotguns, because with the current value you wouldn't be able to reliably hit a person who was less than an inch away (no, I'm not exaggerating, I actually tried it in ARMA a while back). I don't expect them to change the 900 m/s muzzle velocities - I don't expect it. It might happen, might not. The .357 Magnum still shoots at an absurd 930 m/s (3,050 ft/s) so I don't have much hope of them doing it. I have made threads on accuracy and ballistics, etc, maybe I'll make one for shotguns, but I'll wait until they're introduced first because they will likely make some changes.
-
Yes, you should be able to, but only if it has realistic drawbacks. Same goes for fire axes etc.
-
Mmmmmmmmmm I'll talk about ARMA 2 first. Effective range somewhere about 100m with slugs, 50m with pellets. This was due to large drop and time of flight. Accuracy about 10 MOA. Slugs were weak shit for two reasons: -one, slugs have horrible aerodynamics so it lost a lot of damage over range (lost 40% at 100m). -two, they gave slugs very low initial damage, seemingly forgetting it's a 1-oz .70 caliber projectile. This meant pellets were better since you could score a head shot. 9 pellets, pellet spread about 10 inches at 10 yards (25 cm at 9 m). . For some reason the M1014 took a very long time between shots, only 2 shots per second. The AA-12 was pretty silly and could kill people at very long range by pellet saturation. More realistic than most games, but still problems. AS FOR THE STANDALONE Last time I checked, it was HORRIFYING to see how unrealistic things were. No attempt was made to keep things real. NONE. First off, the shotguns have a muzzle velocity of almost 3,000 ft/s. I don't understand how anyone could see that and not instantly realize something is terribly wrong, but it's in there. This would give an extra, oh, say 100-150 meters to the effective range... ...if accuracy wasn't decreased to insane levels - shotguns aren't particularly accurate, but I actually took a screenshot for posterity because I couldn't believe the accuracy value they gave it. For comparison, it's 1200 times worse than the Mosin, 100 times worse than the Magnum, and the Magnum has over a foot of dispersion at a mere 12 yards. Adding to this, for some reason the shotguns are configured to zoom less than other weapons - apparently you have keener eyesight when holding a pistol. What even? I know I sound extremely critical, but I have damned good reasons! All this is of course subject to change, so hopefully some dev goes in there at some point and actually makes these things conform to reality and the laws of physics! Until then I weep (more like rage) at the desecration of the weapons in this game. From what I saw last? It will be exactly the same but it will take up less space. How should it perform? The barrel is shorter so it should have less velocity. Since it's a shotgun this wouldn't matter too much. Contrary to popular belief sawing off the barrel does not significantly increase spread. Since it lacks a stock it should have far worse accuracy, far worse recoil, a shooter will not be nearly as effective with one as he would with a full-size shotgun. The only reason to saw it that short is for concealment. It would be a more effective weapon if it had retained the stock and had gone with a "riot length" barrel.

Why all this "need hunting rifles not sniper rifles"?
-Gews- replied to DevilDog (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Even with US involvement considered, there are many dozens of rifles that would fit the setting much better than an M24 or an M40. If they added one and gave it a somewhat "realistic" chance of spawn, it would be something ridiculous like 1-in-5,000, 1-in-10,000, etc. Better to spend the time on other weapons. If they're going to have an M24, make it this one: -
In my opinion: -the standalone has much better looting and surviving. You can wear different clothing combinations, almost all houses are enterable with multiple rooms, strange as it seems food is actually fun to eat (my character should be fat), even though there are effectively no zombies, the whole survival aspect is far more fun. -the mod has better ranged combat. I just don't like the way standalone guns handle compared to the entire ARMA series. It feels like I've been limited (and I have been). In most servers running the mod it's also easier to find weapons since most of them are focused on PvP and have a glut of changes applied. Couldn't say. Probably true to some extent, but there are still quite a lot of active mod servers.
