The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone (Version: 1.29)
-Gews- replied to alexeistukov's topic in Suggestions
The AK-74M has a smooth dust cover. It's just an AK-74M, nothing special... You can see this as well in the model that was shown in some early pictures. -
Remove all long firearms = best kill on sight deterrent.

The attachment system is completely irrelevant. It's been known for ages that adding a bipod means perfect accuracy. Jorge_Assad is complaining about the accuracy of the M4A1. Not the M4A1+bipod, not the M4A1+Magpul. People are complaining because they think this is terrible: And it is, it's awful.

I suspect it's because their only exposure to the Saiga-12 has been watching FPSRussia shoot watermelons and refrigerators at 600 rpm. -
+1 Bandits: You're also welcome to call these bandits if you like, but it's hardly the same kind of thing. A squad who camps a road and shoots people coming down can most certainly be called "bandits".

Yes, it's also a fact light reflects off, well, everything, not just rifle scopes. Somehow I doubt they'd go to the trouble of having reflecting belt buckles, sunglasses, dew in the grass or shiny axe heads.
-
That's odd, because I seem to recall that killing folks was the only way to get a bandit skin in the mod. "_isBandit = _humanity < -2000" was the mod's definition of a bandit. What constitutes "banditry" within DayZ is a personal opinion. My Oxford English Dictionary has this to say about bandits: bandit /'bændɪt/ n. (pl. bandits or banditti /bæn'dɪtɪ/) 1 A robber or murderer, esp. a member of a gang; a gangster 2 an outlaw. "Proper banditry" is just a concept invented by people (whether they identify as bandit or not) who look down upon killing other players... It's an opinion, it has no authority.

Any implementation is almost certain to be both biased and unrealistic so I don't want to see it.
-
Quote from Bohemia developer zGuba: That was in regards to ARMA 2... dispersion for pistols in DayZ is even larger. Anyways if you shoot a pistol at 25 yards and can't do better than 2-1/4 foot groups you may want to see a doctor as soon as possible.

Because "only 50 weapons were produced, and all were reportedly shipped to the UK special forces. It is believed that none were used in combat... SAS had them in service for a very short time indeed... they are not now in use of any kind". The only people using MC51s are airsoft players.

Right now it seems like most people who had guns removed all the magazines from the premises, went down the street and threw them into ditches and hedgerows, never to be found again. Logical? No. If we want to make sense, magazines for firearms should usually spawn somewhere near those firearms. Unfortunately a lot of people don't like that idea because it makes it "too easy" to find a functional gun. Ha. If it's "too easy" to get guns, you could, you know, reduce the spawns...

Does the SKS spawn with a bayonet on it? I wouldn't count on it. You may very well be like this guy half the time: On the plus side I suppose you could call every shot a "no-scope".

Same thing, it gave me a randomly-generated character a while back. I haven't died yet so I still look like this:
-
Binoculars aren't even an option... they are a necessity.
-
The ACE mod also had large random dispersion for many guns, much more dispersion than the ArmA equivalents.
-
"indefinite hold" Hope this doesn't mean they're dumping the gun.

Any disadvantage to running with bipod deployed?
-Gews- replied to thequantum's topic in New Player Discussion
No I just like to collect them... -compensator: excellent accuracy in all positions -bipod: excellent accuracy when prone and deployed, slows down weapon muzzle -bayonet: increases dispersion Having the bipod won't improve the accuracy if you already have a compensator, so that leaves the other thing... slows down weapon muzzle. No advantages and a minor disadvantage. At least last time I checked, I haven't played for a while. I don't believe they've change anything. I dumped my bipod on the ground. -

Not as far as I know so you can leave it deployed. And if you have a compensator or two, the bipod is redundant and can be immediately discarded as bipods make your weapon somewhat less responsive and don't stabilize the crosshairs anyways. Also bayonets serve no purpose apart from making your weapon look absurd and increasing dispersion if you have no bipod. -
You could make the same statement about many, many guns.

The 1873 is more iconic than the 1866; it's "the gun that won the West". They didn't name the movie "Winchester 66" Anyways, you know the largest group who buys these guns these days? Not collectors. Cowboy action shooters. And the most popular rifle in CAS is the 1873. The fact it's in the mod means nothing since the model isn't attractive enough to be recycled for the standalone, and they aren't going to add .44 rimfire or .44-40 ammunition which no other gun uses. And by the way, the mod's Winchester model is up for sale on Turbosquid... If they do add a lever-action, it will be a .357. And although they make all these guns mentioned in .357 caliber, the 1892 design is easily the best choice, if it's even a Winchester at all. Only reason anyone would even WANT to add an 1866? Nostalgia for the DayZ mod. Nothing more. Time for some new guns, I'm sure they will become quick favorites as well.

Why would he most likely have the 1866? He wouldn't. As far as Winchester levers go the .30-30 1894 is by far the most produced (7.5 million). In the pistol calibers the most common is the 1892 (1 million), and all the 1892 clones (Rossi/Taurus etc). And if someone had either an 1873 or 1866, "most likely" it wouldn't even be a Winchester at all, it would "most likely" be a reproduction (Uberti). Current "Winchester" lever-actions are Japanese, produced by Miroku, they have mechanical differences from the originals, are produced in very small numbers and tend to be quite expensive. An original 1866? Nyet, not happening, and the 1873 is way more common, both the originals and reproductions. Poor choice of weapon - "zombie survival game set in a former Soviet republic" does not exactly call out "Yellowboy Winchester".

Pretty much.

It had the exact same damage as the M24, M40A3, SVD, DMR pretty much all other 7.62mm sniper rifles or machine guns. It wouldn't cause any less damage in standalone since they'd most likely make it a .308 version for ammunition compatibility. Besides, the low damage was never intended by Bohemia Interactive, that was a mod thing. The other day I played some Wasteland and it was a one-shot kill at 1100+ meters.
