Alright then. This is a misconception; the VSS isn't a long range weapon and was not designed to be. The slow muzzle velocity means massive drop and long flight times. Sighting range: 100 meters head 200 meters chest 350 meters man-sized target In comparison the SVD: 300 meters head 500 meters chest 800 meters man-sized target The bullets of the SVD have a muzzle energy 5 times greater than those of the Vintorez, and the muzzle velocity is almost 3 times as high. The turrets on the VSS scope only have adjustments out to 400 meters. The version on the SVD has turrets with adjustments out to 1000 meters. The VSS is designed to be effective while remaining as quiet as possible, which means subsonic velocities and greatly reduced effective range. It is used to eliminate targets at comparatively close ranges while the shooter remains hidden.

Yes, I get it - I don't see how mortars and recoilless rifles are useful - it's not a war, survivors would have no use shelling empty villages from kilometers away. And from there people could argue for scout cars or BMPs. Things like RPGs and 12.7mm machine guns, those seem more useful to me. Although something like a DShK on a wheeled mount weighs 350 lbs empty so maybe technicals would be more useful.

RPG-7s are not uncommon, in fact they are extremely common among not only armies but also guerillas and insurgents, which Chernarus had. If you don't want the RPG-7 because you don't like it, my only words are "too bad". Hey, maybe they WOULDN'T be found - but I totally disagree with people either suggesting or dismissing weapons just because they don't like them. But that argument could also apply to mortars and recoilless rifles so maybe I'm a bit biased... but if it's handheld, common and portable, I am okay with it.

Look at the model - it has multiple holes drilled into the muzzle device. It will no longer work with rifle grenades. The Yugos either had one row of holes at the top, or no holes at all... holes all the way down means it has been turned into a muzzle brake like this one:

It doesn't work like that, the mil-dot scopes in the mod were 10x, the long range scopes are 5x, so you'd need 20 dots both horizontal and vertical (including the center as a "dot"). HOWEVER, with the adjustable FoV slider, it's useless to even attempt it if you ever change your FoV. Any form of scales on 2D scopes are thrown out of wack when FoV is adjusted. That might even be the reason there are no mil dots on the LRS in the first place.

Oh - that reminds me - if we see the rifle in that picture I hope they don't turn down the bolts on all of them (again) just so it can have optics mounted - would have been better to model the K98k in the first place if they wanted that.

It fits the setting and would suit the game well and anyone who says "no" probably doesn't know what they're talking about. Looked like a Gewehr 98 to me.

As far as 9x39mm goes I wonder what's more common, VSS, AS, 9A-91, OTs-14, SR-3 etc. Maybe a VSK-94 would be more likely? "Developed by Russia as a low-cost alternative to the VSS rifle". Here's a fact: there are dozens of machine pistols which are way more common, more often seen in Eastern Europe (and Europe in general), and fit the setting and Eastern feeling better. And adding to that, there are hundreds of GUNS of various types: rifles, handguns, shotguns, which fit better than a Glock 18. So what are the modellers going to spend their time and effort creating? Random exotic Glock 18 because "it's cool".......... or other weapons which tick all the boxes: cool, authentic, effective, etc.

Here's the Russian 1845 musket used in the Crimean War: However the British were equipped with .70-calibre Minié rifles and Enfield .577 rifled muskets, both which were far superior in accuracy and range. The Russians were almost entirely equipped with smoothbores. In addition the Russians treated their muskets very poorly... as a dying Lefty says in Nikolai Leskov's famous story, "tell the Tsar the British do not clean their guns with brick". This was a "7 line" musket, one line is 1/10", so 0.70 caliber. It fired round balls that were undersized to allow them to be easily loaded and were about 0.65-.66 caliber give or take, and weighing around 1 oz or slightly under. The Russians also issued the Nessler bullet which was hollow-based, expanded to fit the bore, and flew like a shuttlecock, increasing the range and accuracy of the musket. Muzzle velocities unknown, it would depend on the fit and patching of the round ball - with an undersized and unpatched ball velocity could be extremely low. Figure 700-1000 fps ballpark with a paper cartridge. Here's a British 1853 Enfield rifle musket. It fired a .56-.57 caliber Minié bullet of about 530 grains which expanded to take the rifling, muzzle velocity around 900 fps.
