Too many variables, DayZ is anywhere from 5-30 times larger. Inconsistency bothers me more.

Yes, but Chernarus is not the Czech Republic. They speak Russian and their armies use Russian equipment. And from that list, the MP5 is used in the Czech Republic, as well as being used in every other major ex-Soviet satellite and being a ridiculously more successful and common weapon overall.

Oops, I meant to post this in the actual Payday thread. Welp.

The bottom is chopped off because they only gave values to 800 meters for the AKM... they went to 1000 for the SKS. It doesn't somehow "lose" accuracy faster than an AKM at long ranges, how would it do that? Influencing the bullet after it's left the barrel doesn't happen. I assume at long ranges it becomes more difficult to hit with either weapon due to errors in range estimation and windage.
-
It hardly matters what exactly it's showing when they've given the SKS slightly less dispersion, which was the point - Russians themselves seem to have considered it more accurate than the AKM. SKS has a longer sight radius and is generally considered slightly more accurate. The AKM is not a rifle designed to "be accurate up to 1000m", that's just the maximum range on the rear sight. The same settings are on the SKS. Anyways those columns are vertical and horizontal mean deviation from 100-800 meters, I believe for infantry under combat conditions... it is used to calculate hit probability and is really not very useful. For example an infantryman with an SKS fires at a 1m(X) x 0.5m(Y) target 500 meters distant, this would mean about a 30% chance of him missing the target. With the AK a 45% chance of missing. I think.

Pistols too inaccurate as well as m4?!
-Gews- replied to Sgt.BigBeasty's topic in General Discussion
The spread for the non-.22 pistols is roughly 1" for every yard... 5 inch groups at 5 yards? Try 25 yards and that's not considering mechanical accuracy. On the other hand your sights are always perfectly aligned and everything's in focus, trigger control is clicking a mouse and short-range targets even seem to appear closer than in real life. But there's too much dispersion IMO. They could cut it in half at least. -
I just typed in "GAP rifle" and scrolled down a bit. Not a GAP though, BlackOps Precision RECON. Specs: http://blackopsprecision.com/docs/RECON-SpecSheet.pdf

Running - Running fast - from a disabled gamer's POV
-Gews- replied to georgli's topic in Suggestions
In ARMA it was configurable under the name "Configure action: fast forward". -
An assault rifle isn't cosmetic either, but alright: How about if they had put My Little Pony merchandise in DayZ? Maybe a big Twilight Sparkle mask? Would that be appropriate to include?
-
New Zealand did not send any troops to Chernarus, we all know perfectly well why that particular hat is there. It is an easter egg. It is not a plot point. What about the Evil Santas inside the smokestacks? Should we add an absurd backstory for those as well? No. Same idea.
-
Not that simple. Hey, why not include main battle tanks? If you don't like them, well, don't use them.

I disagree, "sniper rifles" are not limited to rifles that were purely designed for precision sniping from the moment of their conception. Here's some excerpts from a 1946 book. The author is repeatedly using the term "sniper rifle"... this is way before any of the purpose-built-from-the-ground-up "sniper rifles" had even been made. Two full decades before even the M40 was adopted. Is he supposed to use that term "sniper rifle" for something which didn't even exist? There isn't ANY OFFICIAL DEFINITION of what exactly constitutes a "sniper rifle". This isn't a term with an exact, clearly defined meaning. No one says "a sniper rifle must have a McMillan stock and a heavy barrel profile". What EXACTLY defines a true "sniper rifle" is merely an opinion, nothing more, not like "clip" instead of "magazine". In my opinion: -if it's a rifle built or intended specifically for sniping it's a sniper rifle -if it's a rifle officially issued to snipers it's a sniper rifle I consider this a "sniper rifle" (used by snipers): I consider this a "precision rifle" (not used by snipers):

Correct Unfortunately many gamers don't like RNG because it leaves things to chance In my opinion that's not a valid concern with DayZ, this game is not an eSport It would be nice to have a gun do something like "4000 with 85% chance of + or - 25% and 15% chance of + or - 90%" instead of just "4000" However the current damage "randomness" with bananas and protector cases stopping bullets is bad
-
Not a fan of lever-actions in DayZ but popular demand means there probably will be one, in that case the only logical choice is a .357.

There's no difference in "sniper rifleness" between a sniper's Mosin with PU and a No.4 Mk1(T), M1903A4, K98k with ZF42, etc. Those were all sniper rifles used by snipers. If the "sniper" Mosin with PU isn't a sniper rifle, that would mean sniper rifles did not exist until after WW2. In regards to the SVD: the design of the rifle and the Soviet doctrine best fits the "designated marksmen" concept. However the "S" in "SVD" stands for "sniper" and it is used by snipers in many countries, and I don't think the term "designated marksman" even existed prior to the 1980s. So I don't consider it incorrect to call it a sniper rifle, it's semantics. It depends who's hands it's in. You are right about this: it seems completely backwards. The most valued weapons should be M4A1 > SKS > Mosin. Instead it seems to be Mosin > SKS > M4A1.

Why not?

Perhaps they're trying to make up for the killing of these: No, not really. Really, not really. Some of them do both of those things. Anyways, I don't care about a few silly canned food labels. Even if I did happen to care, there are bigger issues. And often times I have very little sense of humour when it comes to DayZ. The Wiggles? I have no time for that nonsense. Pantless guy in a cowboy hat? Would KoS. Clown masks? I hate those things. Don't get me started on weapons, if it were my choice I'd remove most of the ones we have. But the cans... they are cans. I don't really care.
-
Those recoils are just leftover bits from ARMA. It does not point to the inclusion of those weapons, it is not a sign or hint they will include them.

Notorious Can Incident: Redux. Placeholders? I doubt it, what would be the point of that?

See how he's reloading every shot? It's a mistake, someone put a "1" instead of a "0" in the "single round magazines".

Can you zoom in further when looking through iron sights?
-Gews- replied to Captain Cornhole's topic in New Player Discussion
No, it puts you right in between the two: too much zoom for inside/close range, too little zoom for outside/long range. It's less versatile and is a downgrade from ARMA-style controls. -
More Military Clothes to Replace the "Full TTsKO Look"
-Gews- replied to Devon206 (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
I'd rather have a more ragtag paramilitary look like so: Right now the standard "full bandit" look reminds me of some kind of insect... crouched down low, gas mask looks like a giant fly, mountain backpack is the abdomen, beetling across the landscape in groups of three or more... yucky. -
AKM Sneak peak close to being implemented
-Gews- replied to theswedishcathead's topic in General Discussion
The AK-74 is not cheaper to make, you must be thinking of the stamped AKM that replaced the milled AK-47s. Both the AK74 and the AKM are stamped and they had no stores of 5.45mm before the AK74... Muzzle energy does not equal "stopping power". It depends on the bullet. If the bullet doesn't take advantage of the energy then it doesn't matter whether it's 1500 or 3000 joules. As I posted before the Soviet M43 bullet was not a good design in terms of wounding potential. From Martin Fackler: "This author observed, on many occasions, the damage pattern shown in Fig. 2 while treating battle casualties in Da-Nang, Vietnam (1968). The typical path through the abdomen caused minimal disruption; holes in organs were similar to those caused by a non-hollow-point handgun bullet. The average uncomplicated thigh wound was about what one would expect from a low-powered handgun: a small, punctuate entrance and exit wound with minimum intervening muscle disruption." However the bullets in-game are not M43. They are so-called hollow points (the "so-called" is because they aren't properly designed). M43 is only one type of ammunition, but it was the standard Soviet bullet. "EpicDogeSter on Reddit refers" Both of these rounds have advantages over one another. And what is my opinion? Because as far as I can recall, I made no statement on which round was "better", I merely pointed out some facts and said that the AK74M and the 5.45x39mm should be far superior to that horrible peashooter we had in the mod... and that the AKM should no longer be a "superior" weapon in every respect. "there are pros and cons for both AKM and AK-74, but the OP's basic point is correct: if it sucked as much as it did in the mod, the Soviets would never have adopted it"
