Would You Support A Gun Shop Loot Location?
-Gews- replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
People are saying and have said before that "there would be gun shops in the country, there would be gun stores on the map", my point is that there's absolutely no guarantee of having even one single gun store anywhere near the region the map is in, and having multiple gun stores would be borderline absurd given the small population, the small towns, and the small map. Spawning guns in a gun store makes sense but I don't see how it's necessary or how it would add anything to the game. Simply have guns have an equal chance to spawn in any old house rather than houses with pianos, which makes no sense. Centralizing specific spawns means players only target certain buildings which is bad for gameplay... we have enough of this "tunnel vision" with barracks and such, no need to add more of it. Just my opinion. The product selection in most gun stores is not representative of the location. I'm sure someone will snap some photos of a store in Prague and say "look, they carry Beretta CX4s and Desert Eagles, we should add these". If the store is only spawning Blasers, Rugers and Mosins then it's somewhat pointless adding it, we have buildings that do that now. -
More like 200 meters... it drops around 10 meters by 400m. Sighting range: 100 meters head 200 meters chest 350 meters man-sized target

Would You Support A Gun Shop Loot Location?

No First off there are no gun stores on or near "the map", I'm talking about the real life area the map is based on, you have to drive 40 miles to Prague to find the nearest one. Second it's pointless including a gun store if it doesn't spawn guns with great frequency, and if it does regularly spawn guns people will server hop, camp, and wait outside it while every new spawn comes a-running. Third it gives yet another excuse to add any random firearm under the sun instead of coming up with a decent local list. -
A rifle bullet does not cause a "clean wound". In fact the broadhead would often be "cleaner" because it cuts, a rifle bullet is much more of a blunt impact. A rifle bullet will often cause significantly more damage, I'm talking here about your average hunting ammunition. Don't just take my word for it...

I assumed it was obvious. Still do!

Looks like an Encore. Welp. Concerns about this one is that muzzle velocity must be reduced but there is no current system in place for this.

I mean, just think about the uses of a crossbow for a minute... ○ Range: Rifle has about 5-10x the effective range ○ Damage: Meh, either will kill ○ Rate of fire: Rifle, far faster ○ Accuracy: Rifle, much more accurate ○ Capacity: Rifle, much more, even the Blaser ○ Carrying: Rifle, the crossbow is larger and in real life you would not carry a crossbow around everywhere both cocked and loaded, so that's another minus ○ Reloading: Rifle, faster and not stuck standing in place with your foot in a stirrup ○ Sound: Crossbow ○ Ammo: Tie IMO, you can't simply "craft" bolts and broadheads will get wrecked and dulled, and you may not even recover the bolts. Rifles are more common than crossbows so you're more likely to find ammo, and more of it, and it's easier to carry cartridges with you than it is bolts. So the only real advantage to using a crossbow is the sound. That's it... And sound only matters to bandits several hundred meters off, or zombies, because at 90-100 decibels, your targets will easily hear your crossbow, and realize bolts are being shot at them or even see the bolts, and at the short crossbow ranges you'll be screwed if they have rifles because while you're attempting to reload or run away, BANG, "You are dead". The lower sound will be good if and when dozens of zombies are summoned from all over town at the report of a gun... but until then it's not much advantage at all. It only prevents sneaky bandits hearing you from the next town over, but if you're only dealing with zombies, so would a fire axe... Kind of sucks for the crossbow fans but that's just life, without deadly, numerous and perceptive zombies the weapon isn't and will never be near equal to the firearms. That is, unless they give it crazy things like shrinking properties, massive damage, rifle-velocity bolts, etc, in which case it's not a representation of a crossbow but just a rifle with a crossbow skin.

The compensator does not come with the Mosin and it's not standard. If we get that AK74 the muzzle device will be used because it was on the leaked AK74 model, not as a separate attachment, and removing it doesn't make sense, unlike the SKS bayonet which might have been removed due to animation issues or whatnot. Anyways running the free recoil numbers is interesting: 3.8 ft-lbs at 6.1 fps = M4A1 3.6 ft-lbs at 5.5 fps = M16A2 2.4 ft-lbs at 4.4 fps = AK74 These don't tell you anything about the felt recoil and these figures ignore the muzzle brake but the AK74 and 5.45 is clearly a very mild combination. But back on topic there's no reason not to change the M4 to burst fire except that people wearing clown masks wouldn't enjoy spraying their 60 shots three rounds at a time. It could be either way or both depending on the backstory you want to make up for these rifles. "Realistically" it should be a semi-auto rifle since that's what the model is of... however they change the words on the textures all the time.

Those two would balance quite nicely though without having to stray from realism at all though... M4 burst AK74 auto M4 bit more powerful AK74 bit less powerful M4 bit more recoil AK74 bit less recoil M4 bit more accuracy AK74 bit less accuracy M4 bit more attachments AK74 bit less attachments M4 bit more high-maintenance AK74 bit less high-maintenance M4 less common ammo Ak74 more common ammo

Yes but it was designed for use with and is manufactured with the muzzle brake, it's not some aftermarket muzzle device, so for all intents and purposes relating to the discussion it is "integral" because if you remove it you no longer have a standard "as issued" AK-74. The AK-74 is supposed to be noticeably more controllable than the M4. I haven't shot one but that's the general opinion.

Nothing wrong with that, same as in real life then. Absolutely not. That is, unless rifles can do the exact same.

Yes it would. The problem is they introduced a system where people simply type in "discreteDistance[] = {100, 200, 300, ....};" and it automatically calculates the required launch angle. It's simpler for a modder or developer to use that than to figure out correct angles by trial and error for weapons which don't have scopes with angular elevation adjustments. However the equations they used don't work perfectly, with high bullet drop and long flight times it ceases to function in a satisfactory manner. Doing the ACE zeroing doesn't require calculation since you are adjusting angles, not ranges. It would be simpler just doing it like ACE than attempting to fix the equations. But the current system has only minor issues from a gameplay perspective so they would probably leave it as is. ACE system would also be slightly more work putting in angles for scopes with BDC turrets like the PU because you would have to find the correct angles first. This problem came up in ARMA 3 with the 2000m+ zeroing but has not been fully fixed there either. I don't blame them because fixing that would be tough.
-
It's a minor bug, it would be difficult to fix so it doesn't concern me. In my opinion they should offer more detailed zeroing configuration options to avoid this problem for long range weapons.
-
They need to extend it to 1000 meters anyways. It should go further but the zeroing stops working after about 1000.

I do not give two... I could not care less about pooping.

4102 meters... pretty far. That makes me think, maybe they could have both high-end military and cheaper hunting rangefinders. Depending on conditions rangefinders often won't work out to anywhere near the advertised range. If a rangefinder was only giving readings on targets up to 400 yards I think most people would just use the DayZDB map or simply blast away without much care though. Anywhere in the torso gives the same result with a Mosin... it would be nice to have a heart hitbox to reward good shots.

This topic is about the pistol, not about the development process... different people work on different things, you can't expect a modeller to be fixing netcode or zombie AI, that's why they have a damn team. The pistol please.

Actually, you know what, I just realized they could easily change the muzzle velocity for this gun. Most guns have a "chambered round" magazine in addition to their normal magazines. All guns of a caliber use the same "chambered round" so velocities are all the same when chambering a single shot. However since this gun only chambers a single shot, they would not give it an addition "chambered round" option and instead of using the default "chambered round" it could use its own 1-shot magazine with a lower velocity. Problem solved. In this case.

The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone (Version: 1.29)

I believe it's actually a "Longhorn". -
Confirmed .308 Encore. Scubaman3D: "T/C encore. Its .308 right now. I've fired one chambered in 30-06 and it was ...pretty scary the first time." http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/23ruwz/scoped_pistol_screenshot_from_chris_torchias/
-
The scope is not backwards, it just has a small objective.
-
Probably .308. Should be around 2600 ft/s vs 2820 ft/s. Nope. Another minor concern would be that this becomes some kind of super pistol... an Encore is a poor choice for self-defence compared to the other handguns and this should be how things play out in the game as well. Hunting/sniping players or animals better, combat/self-defence worse, if this is not the case things need rejigging. One, probably 1850 meters, about 3000 joules, probably 7.62x51mm.

That is one large backpack. Just going to repost here. The crossbow is 37.5" long, the limbs are 35", the bolts are 20" each and the quiver will also take up a lot of space. The M4A1 is only 33" long (stock extended!). The Ruger is only 37" long. The Blaser is only 39" long. Anyway you look at it the crossbow and accoutrements is going to take up way more space than these rifles.
