Stand alone attachment system = COD

Even WITHOUT the dispersion changes I never liked the "attachment" system as it stands. 15 months ago I saw the "attachment system" was a big feature of ARMA 3 but I wasn't too enthusiastic about what I saw...

Nope. The barrel is 4 inches long, smoothbore, and at 0.450 inches diameter, the bore is not oversized. It will travel many hundreds of feet. Hundreds of yards in fact.

    Marlin 1894C [SA Weapon Suggestion]

Like I said neither of these lever-actions would be "common", I would rather none. But I would also rather no Python. The only reason for adding one would be gameplay, the .357 offers more. It's already practically confirmed. There is a problem with this, because at the current damage is 4500. Increasing velocity to the correct carbine levels would automatically increase the .357 damage to about 6700. Which is 33% more than the SKS, 90% more than the M4A1, and which would be a one-shot kill. They can't increase the Python's damage without further increasing the .357 carbine's damage, which means people will complain the Python is no more powerful than the .45 autos. At the same time they can't reduce the carbine's damage or people will complain the Python is too weak. And they most certainly can't give the rifle the same velocity as the revolver because that would be an unrealistic arcade-balancing ballistic travesty, my stomach turns at the thought. Dilemma.

    FP-45 Liberator

They never dropped them anywhere remotely near the Russians and in good condition they happen to be very expensive and uncommon nowadays. That is the effective range... the bullet travels many hundreds of feet.

    Marlin 1894C [SA Weapon Suggestion]

From a gameplay perspective: -a .357 lever-action is the obvious choice to share .357 ammunition while providing a difference from handguns and other rifles -the 1895 in 7.62x54R provides no tangible differences from a Mosin apart from slightly faster operation From a realism perspective: -Russia ordering some a century ago does not change the fact the Russian 1895 is not a particularly common firearm nowadays -if this was a US map I would not consider adding a Krag, despite the fact it was the service rifle for far longer at 11 years, and half a million of them were produced, because again, it is not particularly common nowadays, it does not "spring to mind" in the top 15, 25 or 40 firearms I would think of -I don't find someone owning a pistol-caliber .357 carbine any more unbelievable than them owning an 1895 musket If the devs were only choosing the 20 or 30 MOST suitable firearms they would not have considered EITHER of these. But a lever-action is coming anyways. There's only one "good" reason for adding any type of lever-action at all, and that is to share the Python's .357 ammo. If they were only adding the 1895... why? What good reason for the 1895? Common, not at all. Different, hardly, aesthetics mainly. Makes more use of the Mosin's ammo, nope, plenty of firearms to do that and the 7.62 needs no help. So that's it. The .357 carbine confirmed.

    A Guide to having FUN

Well that post wasn't quite true. I've gone to Elektro, died and respawned... but I've never been silly, deliberately careless, cracked jokes, refrained from picking up guns or shouted on voice comm. I suppose "no pants in Elektro" just isn't my cup of tea.

    First blood

Alright. I didn't kill the first person I met. He seemed giddy to be playing and had just found a Payday mask. Or the second person, either. However, the third person had to go. He let me get close because I only appeared to had a flashlight, but then, hey presto, I pulled out my kitchen knife and he took off sprinting down the road, saying in side "why are you trying to stab me? I have nothing!" Anyways, near the Dobryy firehouse he said "you're an idiot" and pulled out a baseball bat. We began fighting. I constantly circled around while slashing his head, and he kept slugging me with the bat. His bat blocked a lot of shots, but pretty soon there was a hilariously large amount of blood pouring out of him. Eventually he went down, and I slashed his head a good 20 more times or so (his body was also slightly bugged and kept sliding across the road like a curling stone). I was bleeding so I had to tear up my new clothes and make some bandages (luckily I had read that before playing). After that, I decided to run to the other firehouse, and immediately came across an AFK player wearing another clown mask. I pulled out my knife, but my flashlight had caught his attention and he was suddenly no longer AFK. He also started sprinting away and we had a long chase down the coastal road. I could easily catch up to him and overtake him by simply looking at the ground (more FPS = more speed). Eventually I passed him and he stopped and pulled out a splitting axe. I went in for the kill anyways, he stepped forward and the last thing I saw was the axe swinging towards my head. End of the story, perhaps no. I waited but I remained unconscious so I went and did something else. After a few minutes I lost connection to the server (restart?). Upon relogging I'm still unconscious, so does this mean I might survive my ordeal? I'm thinking perhaps he didn't finish me off properly. But on the other hand, I could die when the timer is up. Or be bleeding to death right now. Somewhat pointless but fun

    Marlin 1894C [SA Weapon Suggestion]

They do indeed... Chernarussians speak Czech. They should not be looking entirely to the Czech Republic for weapons though, they have to consider it is not Czech. If someone says "Czech army uses vz. 58 and some CZ 805" they are ignoring that the Chernarussian army uses old AK-74s and has no special forces... I always assumed the M4A1s are supposed to come from US or international forces who maybe intervened with the infection. Whatever. I do not have a problem with them including M4 Carbines. It is a common weapon, it should simply be a rare find to reflect the fact it is not standard issue for the country's army. But that doesn't explain all the aftermarket attachments... or why none of them spawn with optics... or the strange 10, 20 and 40 round magazines in barracks... anyways, forget the backstories. We know the reason some of this stuff is there. Process 1: 1. Think of cool stuff which I like 2. Add them and Process 2: 1. Think of the most fitting items regardless of what I happen to like 2. Add them The reason is Process 1.

Will a ppsh 41 be added to the game?

In DayZ's world correct. When they introduce the SVD that would make it an even split between "civilian"/"military" Any other guns using it would almost certainly be military... but maybe they have no intention of adding a PKM... which would be unfortunate. Since the ballistics of the two are effectively identical it's possible they see no value in "adding" 7.62x54R and that we will be permanently stuck with 7.62 NATO Mosins and SVDs. Anyways the question: The answer: nobody knows. But more likely "no" than "yes".
  13. -Gews-

Will a ppsh 41 be added to the game?

The 7.62x54R has been in continuous production ever since 1891. It saw use in the two largest wars in history by one of the largest armies in history. The entire Warsaw Pact produced it during the Cold War and they did not skimp on production... It is still used by many, many armies and definitely isn't being "marginalized", the countries using it do not have the money or inclination to swap cartridges for their thousands of machine guns... I don't think it is a residential cartridge. Nowadays it is primarily used in military firearms and the vast majority of ammunition is military surplus. Most civilians only shoot it in Mosin-Nagants, the cheap Mosins are the only real reason this cartridge is still somewhat popular among civilians. If you look at hunting and sporting rifles, doesn't matter if they are European, American, very few are being produced in 7.62x54R. So 7.62 NATO would be more popular amongst hunters and target shooters. Anyways: why not both?
  14. -Gews-

Will a ppsh 41 be added to the game?

In Chernarus there would be way more 7.62x54R than 7.62 NATO. Every Eastern Block general-purpose machine gun uses it. Many Soviet Block armoured vehicles include a PKT with thousands of rounds onboard. There is BILLIONS of 7.62x54R out there. In the homes of hunters and shooters, probably not as much. But overall... much more.

For all you snipers out their.

No. The bullet will only travel 1850 meters. My longest shots were all in Wasteland Takistan. 2442m with M107, 1373m with M24, ~1550m with M24 but no kill.
  17. Because lots of people have wood furniture on their AR-15s... Oh wait... nope... never seen a single AR with wood furniture unless it was on Google Images.
  18. Better effects should be in but I hate overdone "silly gore". Pretty much any game known for having gore has "silly gore". Most zombie movies have "silly gore".

    Marlin 1894 confirmed ?

I don't want to see them add any rare or exotic rounds... but I don't want them to leave out good cartridges and the firearms that use them for simplicity's sake. Different cartridges are interesting because they have each different ballistics and damage. Having a bunch of hunting rifles would be kinda boring if every one of them used 7.62 NATO. After they introduced the Walther in 9x19 some people think it is supposed to be the Makarov's replacement.

    Marlin 1894C [SA Weapon Suggestion]

The original 1866 uses unique ammunition which you won't find in any gun store. And the .44-40 reproductions are almost as bad. The 1866 reproductions now also come in .38 Special and .45 Colt but NOT in .357 Magnum due to the brass frame, so again another ammunition type would be required. There were some reproductions made with steel receivers in .357. Anyways about the 8900 damage, absolutely no respect was paid no respect to the gun's ballistics... the rifle is not very powerful to begin with, it fires what is a pistol-sized, pistol-power cartridge, and all original ammunition and also much of modern ammunition is loaded with solid lead slugs which would just put a .44 caliber hole in someone. The damage should have been closer to the pistols and not equal or superior to the rifles.

    New SMG Announced... Any guesses?

Correct that the Armaverse deviates from real life - however it often does so in "plausible" ways. For example the SCAR. According to Operation Arrowhead the SCAR is supposed to be the US Army's service rifle in 2012. That's not a random choice. There was a huge amount of talk about replacing the M4 Carbine sometime in the very NEAR future. The SCAR was heavily promoted and a few years ago, there was plenty of speculation the SCAR would end up as the replacement for the M4 Carbine. It was adopted by SOCOM. Many other games also portrayed US soldiers using SCARs. While not "true to life", it was a plausible choice that did not require suspension of disbelief... if they had portrayed that US soldiers were issued with HK G3s or AK-101s, ARMA fans would have had an absolute fit. Because while the world is fictional, neither the G3 or the AK-101 is a plausible choice for a new US service rifle. A fictional setting does not excuse craziness... Possible =/= plausible. It's not physically impossible for a SCAR-17 or ACR or Vector to end up in Chernarus, but if you are comparing it to similar, Chernarus-like real-world countries, any of them, it is extremely unlikely anyone in a zombie apocalypse would run across them. It is extremely unlikely anyone in a full-blown war would run across them. If you are measuring the relative "unlikeliness" of running across a SCAR-17, as opposed to an AK or side-by-side shotgun, you better put the SCAR's spawn rate hundreds... nah, thousands of times lower. 1-in-20, 1-in-50 does not come close to cutting it. I don't see the point in giving something such a low chance of spawn that one in several thousand players might happen upon it. I consider that a waste of time. They will not model 1000 firearms, they won't even model 100 firearms, not even close. If we only have 20 guns, what's the use of having one that is never seen? Any new firearms that are added must be prioritized. There are hundreds of guns that are better suited than a Kriss Vector, there are many dozens better suited than a SCAR. Regarding the current selection I would highlight 4 firearms and 10 attachments and press the "delete" key without so much as a second thought...
  23. -Gews-

    New SMG Announced... Any guesses?

The Kriss Vector is definitely not a suitable choice for this game... The semi-automatic version is rare amongst civilians, the fully-automatic version is rare amongst everyone. The gun itself is expensive and is a fairly unproven newcomer, making it less likely to be . Then there is the fact the .45 cartridge is not a popular choice for submachine guns and the cartridge is considerably less popular in Europe than in the US. And in addition pistol-caliber submachine guns are slowly becoming obsolete due to their inability to deal with body armor. This game is ostensibly "authentic", so choosing guns for this game should be like choosing guns for a movie... even if the location is a fictional country, the film's director and armorer should realize that certain weapons are not "plausible" choices. Certain weapons will be jarring to the audience. They seem out of place. They have to respect their setting - some choices are more plausible than others. If there was a movie taking place in a fictional former Soviet Republic in Eastern Europe and the soldiers were carrying Bushmaster ACRs and the farmers were shown with Kel-Tec KSGs that would not be plausible for the audience. Here are some fictional "Chernarussian" fighters. Most people would find the weapons in this picture more plausible... Than the ones in this picture...

Retexture Long Range Scope with Mildots

The long range scope is just an overlayed texture so the mil dots would not work properly unless you never moved the FoV slider from the default position.

    Marlin 1894 confirmed ?

I don't want to see things like: -6.8 SPC -.300 Blackout -.280 Remington -5.7x28mm -.45-70 I want to see things like: -5.45x39mm -7.62x25mm -7.62x54R -8x57mm IS -9x18mm ..357 Magnum itself is less suitable to DayZ than the 9x18mm which is used in a whole bunch of Eastern European weapons.
