Ammo loss chance while reloading and sprinting
-Gews- replied to Damnyourdeadman's topic in Suggestions
Sounds like a bloody nuisance, not a great feature. When Rocket talked about "authenticity" over sheer "realism" this kind of stuff is what I like to think he was referring to... -
With an 8 km radius, you could stand in the middle of the map and talk to everyone. I also believe there are much more gameplay opportunities hearing someone on your walkie talkieand knowing they are somewhere within 3km than knowing they are "somewhere from Grozovy Pass to Elektro". Anyways, I also doubt those walkie talkies would have a true range of 8km in Chernarus terrain. 3km radius like Hicks said is fairly far, that is 28 km2.

The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone (Version: 1.29)
-Gews- replied to alexeistukov's topic in Suggestions
RPD, RPK, RPK-74 and PKM make sense. PKM makes the most sense. Pecheneg is meh. Mk48 makes the least sense, I heard it was being phased out as well. M240 would just a less fitting PKM clone and perhaps FN MAG too. M249/FN Minimi is somewhat conspicuously missing. I think the only reason people would want M240s and Mk48s is because they were in the mod so "they must" be in the standalone or it feels like something's missing. -
Technically correct, but only because I don't have a clan and I'm not interested in speaking... been playing since Nov. 2012, first spoke to another player Apr. 2014... I play for the pew-pew. I have nothing against Teamspeak, that would be Applejaxc. But walkie-talkie realism is important to me nonetheless!

It's probably clothing and stuff in their clothing and too much inaccuracy and spread. I checked it once, with the sawn-off it was something like 0.2 meter random dispersion from POA and then a 9-pellet pattern with a diameter of 0.5 meters... at a range of 5 meters, ie. point blank. Many shots are much further than 5 meters meaning only a couple pellets might hit.

Never screw walkie talkie realism my friend! This is good. I don't see the point of 30 km range. If that is the radius, that covers the entire map from almost any location, that is an area of over 2800 km2. If they were making it 30 km, why make a range limit at all? Just give it infinite range. Good to hear it is just a placeholder.

Come on. Don't even try to explain the current values, they don't make any sense. If they are placeholders, then there's no need to defend them. The only reason to defend the current values is for gameplay reasons, ignoring any realism. Fair enough, some people don't care if such things are truly "authentic" or not, they aren't gun nuts and only want a good game and not a simulator... but if you try to justify the current values with explanations based on "realism", real-world facts or logic, then in my opinion you either do not know the values, have not given any thought to them, or are just being disingenuous. Does what is shown in the following picture make sense? I would say no, it makes zero sense. What is this change in dispersion actually based on? I will guess: it is probably not based on anything at all. Someone could argue the Magpul furniture is more ergonomic but then I would point the sheer difference is absurd and that the lower gun has an optical sight. Many strange things abound... simply add a bipod or compensator to a Mosin or M4A1 and a survivor can suddenly shoot hundreds of meters with no dispersion at all... survivors are more accurate with AKMs or SKS with iron sights than when using M4A1s with red dots... a beautiful, finely balanced $7000 rifle in pristine condition with excellent sights, barrel and triggers is far less accurate than any ratty old Mosin in the game (and the Blaser double rifles are very accurate). Do you like dispersion to simulate inaccuracy? Okay. As long as a dispersion increase is applied to all weapons equally it makes sense. Shooting is too easy. Some people say sway and wind is the way to decrease hit percentages, others say dispersion, many say both... all methods can make sense if done properly. But, sorry, right now it is not done properly, that is, if you care about how these things relate to real life.

They should just look up the specifications for whatever brand of walkie-talkie they've chosen and put that in as the maximum range...

Are snipers the most harmless thing in DayZ?
-Gews- replied to bauertschi's topic in General Discussion
Only if you have no bipod or compensator. Otherwise it should be even more accurate. -
Isn't "DayZ" quite possibly the dumbest name ever?
-Gews- replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
"It was a working title. I hated it as a name, despised it. Was only once we got the logo that we all fell in love with it." -Rocket -
I was never "good" but I have no scruples anymore. Saw too much smug, holier-than-thou, self-satisfied anti-KoS talk on Reddit a few months ago, automatic backlash...

No "Specialized" Cartridges [Torchia Tweet]
-Gews- replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
Doesn't necessarily have to be a "military" sniper rifle. Could just as well be a hunting gun, way more hunters with .300 Win Mags than military snipers and more guns in that round as well. I assume the run-everywhere survivor would also rather carry a hunting gun than a sniper rifle because they are far lighter. Could have both in fact as they serve somewhat different roles. Tikka T3 .300 Winchester Magnum + Leupold VX-3 4.5-14x = 7.7 lbs Remington XM2010 system .300 Winchester Magnum = 17.5 lbs I know which one seems more plausible to find, more aesthetically pleasing within the game and more useful for the average person... -
No "Specialized" Cartridges [Torchia Tweet]
-Gews- replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
It's hard to think of how adding .410 shotshells would allow them to add a bunch of interesting guns to the game... unless... no... couldn't be... I swear, if I ever see a gun that has the word "Judge" in its name I will uninstall immediately. -
Third. I don't count bipods because they only work when prone. 1. compensated Mosin, AKM = 0? 2. 10/22 = 0.0019 3. Magpul M4 with suppressor = 0.0019072
-
Here, I drew up this. Missing the AKM for now.
-
I was just comparing to each other, not at a certain distance... but those dispersion examples are at about 25 meters! They are never set in stone; doesn't mean there's no point discussing it. That is the key...
-
Nuh-uh, it's not fine because it don't make sense. When you see things like SKS well over twice as accurate as M4A1s, 10/22s over 6x so, you know something is amiss. Or this kind of stuff:
-
Those are obvious bugs which they will attempt to fix. This is something they did on purpose and probably will never fix. Comprende?
-
In principle it's a great idea In practice it would be pretty awful
-
Meh... I would think "what's more likely, Chernarussians doing bubba bolt jobs to clear hunting scopes or every Chernarussian owning a bonafide or reproduction sniper?" Probably the former... finding "snipers" without their PU scopes would also be odd. On the other hand at least it's an "official" variant with the PU and it looks better. I ran across this guy in some footage from Bosnia, he has an M44 with an unknown scope mounted forward and ridiculously high.
-
Lots of AKMs had no slant brakes, it was only added a 3-4 years after the adoption of the AKM.
-
I do, so now you have. It's not "authentic" and it also looks wrong. The guy who modeled it did not appear to like the change either. "I modeled the bolt straight They bent it internally And they bent it wrong" But realism aside it creates the following problem: back in the mod, the Lee-Enfield was one of the most common weapons. The Mosin should have been the Lee-Enfield's replacement, a very common low-end iron-sighted bolt action. Allowing scopes to be instantly fitted means it is more like the CZ 550's replacement, the sniper's weapon, and must be more rare for "balance". There's no advantage to finding some other more modern bolt-action when the compensated Mosin already has perfect accuracy and they can all use the same scopes without issue. It would be better if you had to find a Mosin with turned-down handle and a mount already installed, or find the mount and turn the handle down yourself. Scopes aren't rare either. It's much easier to mount a modern scope on a modern rifle than on a Mosin. Same should apply in-game.
-
Oh, Roy already posted it in the OP. Mosin: 0.0025*100 meters = 0.25 meters at 100 meters.
