Third Person View should be Over-the-Shoulder, NOT a bird's eye view.
-Gews- replied to Rags!'s topic in General Discussion
-feels much smoother running around -can see over and around obstacles by tilting camera without exposing character -can see your character, models, animations from most angles -illusion of greater field of view -can be better for those who get motion sickness -
Should scopes in dayz have the ability to zero?

"Hey what's that glinting over there in the sunlight" -
Well, it looks like that's what will be happening.

You can see how big it is, it won't fit. About 0.468 x 0.345 m x 0.165 m. Can weighs 4.3 kg (9.5 lb), 20 L diesel fuel weighs 16.7 kg (37 lb), 120 L diesel fuel (IRL tank capacity) weighs 100.2 kg (220 lb). It should be inconvenient.

That's not the point, the point is that they should not have chosen the "Alaskan". Besides, Model 70s are owned by a Belgian company (FN), they are made in Belgium, and they are assembled in Portugal... 99% of people would be unable to tell the difference between "European" and "American" anyways. It's a label. Are there any significant aesthetic differences between continents? It goes about 50-100 fps faster in commercial loads, in military loads it is about the same, there is not a large difference.

"we're currently working on a Winchester Model 70 Alaskan" ??? Don't know why they would choose this one. It only comes in .30-06 and magnum chamberings. Makes no sense to me. Oh, I see. Apart from the Safari, it's the only Model 70 still offered with iron sights. <_< I don't think this rifle is a good choice at all. Model 70 says "America", Alaskan says "magnum" (and "America"), it's too heavy and overbuilt for .30-06 at 8.5 lbs and GOD FORBID we are handed this rifle with some grinning "7.62x51" cartridges. It would be better to have something cheaper and more common (Rem 700 etc.) or something more European (CZ550, Tikka, SAKO, etc.). I suspect they only chose this model because it has the iron sights and that's a poor reason. The great majority of bolt-action hunting rifles aren't offered with iron sights anymore. I don't get it. $0.02

That's kind of silly. People don't carry books for armour. On a whim I weighed a few books: Paperback: Rumpole on Trial, Penguin = 152 g (243 p.) = 5.4 oz Jude the Obscure, Penguin = 241 g (509 p.) = 8.5 oz Catch-22, Dell = 243 g (455 p.) = 8.6 oz Lake Wobegon Days, Penguin = 248 g (420 p.) = 8.7 oz Death in the Andes, Picador = 275 g ( p.) = 9.7 oz Hardcover: The Red Badge of Courage, Evergreen = 233 g (107 p.) = 8.2 oz The Luger Story = 568 g (256 p.) = 1 lb 4 oz Manual of Seamanship Vol II, HMSO = 1546 g (854 p.) = 3 lb 6.5 oz Box O' Truth found some calibers penetrated the following distances into books: .22 LR = 1" 9mm = 7" 45 ACP = 4.25" 5.56mm = 7.5" 7.62x54R = 15" Mythbusters did this as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uULn_Jul43Y#t=0m32s No doubt books can stop bullets. A bullet would have less penetration in a book in a coat than a book fixed in some kind of test frame. But is it practical to make body armour out of books? Nope, they're heavy, most books won't fit in pockets either. Paper is made from wood. Think about it. Books in your pockets won't save you unless you're shot in the pocket. Most coats don't have pockets everywhere. Most vests aren't designed to carry books. Pretty much everyone who was ever saved by a book wasn't carrying the book intending to use it to fend off bullets, it was incidental. Those 4 text books in the video above? That's probably around 6 kg (13 lb) right there. I don't want to see players using books for armour because people in real life don't use books for armour. It's not practical so it shouldn't be practical in the game either. Maybe some crazy players would swear by it, same as eccentric people in real life, but it should not be a widespread or effective tactic. Right now my character is using books for armour though.

LOL. Finding LRS everywhere is not realistic, it's a "tactical" scope costing thousands. Scopes in general? None? Really? Don't try to say scopes are unrealistic and you can only buy them in America. It's coming up to 2015 now. The words "hunting rifle" conjure up images of a scoped bolt action. That's fairly universal wherever rifles are allowed. The most common form of hunting rifles should be totally excluded from the game? Pfft. Hey look, pictures from Eastern forums. Couple of the first Russian results for "optical sight".

Looks like they're taking ideas from the war in Syria.

Eye point could be moved closer.

It works for all of them in game, and in real life PSO-1 is for 7,62x54R.

They are pretty large differences since the Python fires at ~360 m/s, slightly slower than most .357s due to forcing cone / barrel dimensions, and the carbine will fire at ~540 m/s, that's 2.25x the energy and with hot loads can nip at the heels of 7.62x39, more importantly common 158 JSP bullets from the revolver will often show minimal expansion and from the carbine they may be explosive by comparison.

The derringer should really be .380. It's pretty common and wouldn't make it as useless as if it were .22. Original derringers were a pretty weak designs in weak calibers. .45 ACP is powerful, it require a stronger frame and pivot. The big derringers in .45 ACP, .45 LC, .410, .357 etc are overbuilt, large and heavy to handle those cartridges. Compare the American Derringer and Bond Arms .45 ACPs and Cobra .38 Spl here to the original .41 Remington and see all the areas AD, Bond and even cheap Cobra have massively beefed up to handle the cartridges producing many times the energy. AD, Bond, Cobra Remington Now check out the DayZ derringer, you should be able to see a significant weak spot...

Hold RMB, +/- numpad, change FoV, if it made a little noise it was just post-process editing.

They fly some random Canadian Search & Rescue teams around the world and these Canadians will bring specialized custom orange .30-06 bolt-action rifles designed for bear defense? "Ruger M77" and heli crash should not appear in the same sentence. There are hundreds of thousands of Ruger M77s that don't belong to Canadian Army Search & Rescue teams. -
It's 4.30 MOA with CQB stock, OEM handguard and 3.95 MOA with Magpul stock, OEM handguard. So CQB is 50 cm circle at 400 m, Magpul is 46 cm circle. Draw your own conclusions.

FNX is the best, only reason to pick another pistol is if can't find a working FNX and ammo. As for being rare, I found half a dozen littering the Cherno docks not too long ago.

Just the 1911? Next thing you know we'll all be running around like the Man from U.N.C.L.E.

Perhaps it should ONLY be found in civilian areas, not military bases. In ARMA2 the AKM was used by the Chedaki and guerillas, CDF used AK-74s instead.
