I don't see what the argument is all about! This thread has turned heated! 1. The weapon damage has been reduced by Bohemia 2. We need the weapons to be a bit more effective Solution? Reduce player health, reduce zombie health even more. That way you can once more have pistols that can take out zombies in a couple shots, and your 5.56mm weapons will be more powerful at closer ranges, like old times. Makes sense to me...
-
Of course I can't speak to that myself :P but the effectiveness of 5.56mm was reduced a couple times... first, when the US decided to change the rate of twist in the barrel to make the bullets more stable in flight. This meant they were less prone to tumbling (and thus fragmenting). Then the US decided to switch to the M885 round, which was designed to penetrate the body armour of Cold War opponents better than the previous loadings. It has a heavier weight and lower muzzle velocity and is also less prone to tumbling and fragmenting. More recently they have introduced the 77-grain Mk.262, which is supposed to be more effective but was not for general issue. The standard 5.56 has a problem with tumbling when it gets below a certain velocity, I think it is around 2,500-2,600 fps. The lower muzzle velocity of the M4 Carbine also exacerbated the problem, and with longer ranged engagements in Afghanistan... You can break your legs in the vanilla game.

Okay, look here: The Enfield was not reduced to 6722! Bohemia reduced it to 11. The 7.62mm does 12. The .303 British is slightly less powerful than the 7.62, so that makes sense. 11. 12. Barely any difference in the values Bohemia chose. The differences seem much larger because blood damage = hit value squared, multiplied by 55.55. Yes, in DayZ, but in ArmA 2 it is twice as effective as in DayZ.
-
The old damage model was horribly flawed and Bohemia got around to fixing it. The new damages make more sense relative to each other. The new damages make sense for ArmA, they don't work as well with DayZ where your player has twice the amount of health. Player health needs to be nerfed.
-
Nope, it's not "special", they reduced the damage of it when they overhauled all their damages. It's usually a 2-shot kill in ArmA, which isn't bad at all.
-
Could be a mistake on the charts... from what I can tell by looking at the config, it can only use the same magazines as other 5.56mm weapons. Bohemia's "nerf" actually made sense and wasn't an attempt to reduce player deaths. We used to have the 1911 doing 4500 damage, Makarovs more powerful than 9x19mm, etc.
-
No need to bump (most) weapon damage. Just reduce player health instead. The new damages make more sense when players have normal ArmA health. I haven't tried the L85 Holo much (only once) except for a few times in Wasteland, but if it is actually doing 8000 damage that is unacceptable.

Running, running, running, ooh, a dot, let me watch it shrink and point out the exact location of that guy hiding in the bush 300m away. I can see the point of the dots, but I don't see the harm in removing them... I can only see the harm in keeping them.

So sweet... running south of Polana I heard a chopper overhead and hid in a tree, but about 10 seconds later the chopper crashed with a huge explosion not 100 yards away from where I was standing. Looted the bodies immediately and got a DMR + 3 mags, a PDW + 7 mags, and an SVD Camo + 3 mags, not to mention all the basic survival gear. This was about 15-20 minutes after I spawned and I only had an Enfield. Heh.

The older one looks cooler, but on the other hand I've heard people complain it was harder to spot in certain situations, thus giving bandits a bit of an advantage.

I'm gonna bet the griefers would hate this. ;)

Do you want Wild Animals in DayZ? Yes or No?
-Gews- replied to Raider (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I tried the Clay Dogs scripts in the editor and those dogs are pretty mean... if they can catch you, since they always run at human speed instead of using their sprint. I'm pretty sure someone could re-texture the Alsatian to look like a wolf, give it howling and snarling sounds, and make sure that it sprinted when attacking. It would be terrifying to encounter a pack of them. It would be authentic, too, since wolves are native to Russia and Eastern Europe. -
Add back some of the banned weapons from 1.7.5?
-Gews- replied to obviousrprsnts's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
As for why they aren't in DayZ, I don't think that the silenced Mak or L115 are overpowered, but adding them in means adding new ammo spawns as well and that kind of complicates things for survivors when you already have a silenced 9mm and two .50 caliber rifles. New ammo spawns reduce the chance of ammo for those weapons spawning; the more different ammo types, the less likely you'll find ammo for your gun. Another little thing is that the British rifles have screwy mil-dots, which has not been corrected by Bohemia and could be a serious disadvantage on the many servers without scroll wheel ranging, but then again, the AS50 has that problem as well. I have no idea why they were put on the list of "banned" weapons though. A hacker scripting in an L115 isn't going to do any more damage than one scripting in an AS50. -
Veteran or Normal, your marker should be on the map.

Nope, no, no. Chernarus isn't even that big; it's not hard. After a while it's easy to find out exactly where you are just by looking at your surroundings, with the exception of the debug forest and other remote, characterless areas. -
Have ghillie suit and M16A4 Acog (6 mags) up for trade!

Welp, only gots me a DMR with limited ammo. I do have a PDW with a ton of mags though. -
The problem is I'm doing this on a keyboard. Remembering dozens of key combinations is not exactly as intuitive as flicking off a safety or racking a slide in real life. I've never really thought to myself "you know what? I need a safety on this shit" while running through the virtual woods with an AK... :| The realistic features I want are the type I like to think Rocket was talking about when he said he was going for authenticity as opposed to exact realism. I don't want safeties and decocking levers or forward-assists incorporated into the guns because I don't think it's necessary to give a feel of realism. I want the devs to focus on stuff like realistic damage systems and zombie behaviour (if any zombie behaviour can be called realistic).

Think of the possibilities... Chenarussian Roulette!
-
Too realistic. Next we'd have people wanting to be able to switch from cocked-and-locked carry for the 1911 and have the option to carry "Israeli" style or whatever.

Your avatar is so appropriate for this topic. Beans?

How bout a GPS? -
Sounds like ya need to use the editor and load up Chernarus without any ambient lifeforms...

I've got a DMR with one or two full mags. I think two. -
Yup, it REALLY ticks me off when people complain about a .50-fucking-BMG being a one-shot kill. It's a .50-fucking-BMG! 'Scuse my language, I'm tired.
-
Off the top of my head I think it was something like 60-90 MB per hour...?

How about some realism here, since we're all about realism on this site? I propose that you break your leg, and you're screwed, morphine won't help ya. Hehehehehehe.
