No way! I don't have anything against having a Vintorez in the game, but not the current one. It is currently both overpowered and glitched! First off, let's examine the actual real-world ballistics of the VSS. It fires the 9x39mm SP-5 round (the SP-5 is specifically mentioned in the config). Examine the chart and compare the energy levels: As you can see, the Vintorez has similar energy levels to non-magnum handguns. It's simply not a powerful weapon in real life since they have to keep the bullet below the speed of sound in order to avoid a sonic crack. However, Bohemia gave it a "hit" value of 13, which means in DayZ it would (but doesn't, keep reading) do 9388 blood damage. More than a 7.62 NATO round and more than any other rifle short of the .50 calibers. Absurd, and a failure on Bohemia's part. B-b-b-but that's not the worst part. Someone set the "typicalSpeed" value to 150 m/s. The typicalSpeed value dictates the velocity at which the bullet will do the damage listed in the "hit" value. The muzzle velocity is 300 m/s. That means it does 26 damage at the muzzle and similar damage within medium range. That's the same as an M107. That's 37552 blood damage! So, we have a weapon that does .50 BMG-level damage at the close ranges at which it is meant to be used and is completely silent. No way, José! Until Bohemia reduces the damage to appropriate levels (at most, it should do roughly the same damage as an AK-74), I consider this a bugged weapon, an overpowered weapon, and most importantly, an UNREALISTIC weapon, and I don't want to see it in ArmA, in DayZ or anywhere else.

how is the playerbase now?

Still far too many skiddies on the public hives, better on well-maintained private hives, better still on whitelisted hives. -
Death by Zombie: Zombie with your gear.

Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed today. Here's a small child in cowboy duds riding a miniature pony (maybe it will cheer you up). -
I go sneaky solo because that's more my style. Sucks if you run up against more than two well armed bandits, but on the other hand you can do whatever you like and don't have any obligations to other players. I just don't go to the two southern cities or the NWAF.

Death by Zombie: Zombie with your gear.
-Gews- replied to Supercuate's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
No, I didn't really read it, but that makes more sense. Some points against: 1. zombies everywhere holding gear could slow down a server; many times people wouldn't bother going back 2. zombies would drop any guns 3. zombies are technically "infected", not undead, so if they kill you... -

I don't understand why a zombie would want to swipe my M14 and medical supplies... -
As it exists now, I don't see the point in playing DayZ offline, except for map familiarization or making videos. Maybe if the Standalone adds some sort of campaign mode that would make sense. Have to be careful with that when it comes to playing online, people could modify their ground and vegetation or player textures to spot other players more easily, etc.

There are some threads on the Bohemia forums about this. You can notice some difference between different guns but it's not very much, and it's mostly or all in the vertical plane. They also should add in muzzle velocity based on barrel length so you can choose between a more agile carbine which is less effective at range or a slower-handling, more powerful gun.

Yeah, there is really no point in burying stuff (or having tents, etc) if it disappears when you die. Nobody's going to run 10km to get a different gun or some ammo or food or whatever they have in their tent.

I disagree with this suggestion

The game shouldn't be harder just for the sake of being harder, but it should be realistic. I don't see a problem with letting zombies grab hold of players - that's what zombies are supposed to do! As for your other points: -food and water shouldn't be rare, it's not hard to find right now anyways -you shouldn't starve to death in 30 minutes -aggroing zombies? Try crawling! Edit: I mean, it's a zombie survival game, so you should need to actually put some work in to avoid zombies and survive. -
On my PC at least, the further I turn down the resolutions, the better frames I get.
-
Taviana kills my FPS as well, more so than most other maps, but I have bad FPS to start with. What are your in-game settings at? Resolution, etc.

I hate Lingor so much. But anyways... NYPA. -
I just got my ideal loadout so I took a couple screenshots for posterity. Now you see me. Now you don't.

How about an alien mothership?

Rocks. Yesterday I saw someone else die in the stupidest manner ever. New spawn was running along the beach near Kamenka trailing about a dozen zeds and decided to climb up a water tower. Bwahahahaha, I heard his character's legs break with much shrieking as I ran under...

Yup, 5.56mm subsonic would suck. Many subsonic rounds won't even cycle the action properly. Nope, IIRC the standard load is a 56-grain FMJ at about 2,900 fps out of the AK-74, compared to the 5.56mm which is 62 grains at 3,150 fps out of a full-length M16. Since ArmA doesn't account for barrel lengths, that means the 5.45mm weapons will only have 75% of the energy of the 5.56mm weapons, hence only being about 75% as effective (in the ArmA-verse). As you can see, 2722 divided by 3555 is the same as the energy of the 5.45mm divided by the energy of the 5.56mm. Boom. In real life the 5.45mm doesn't fragment, unlike the 5.56mm, so it would be (much?) less effective in those cases. If the 5.56mm failed to fragment, they would probably have roughly the same effect on the target.

Rocket and the DayZ team had nothing to do with the change, however, they should have reacted by adjusting the player health to better fit the new damages.

What would you do if this happened to you?
-Gews- replied to BEASTWolverine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The BRDM still isn't fair. I had a BRDM in Wasteland, without any ammo, and it could blow up vehicles by ramming them on the highways. One guy survived the crash and started firing at me while I tried to run him over, no damage to me or the BRDM. The BTR-40 (unarmed) would be the only armoured vehicle I would consider non-op in DayZ. -
Yup, I checked, it's not true. Someone made a mistake on the damage charts. They don't model specific muzzle velocities in the game; it depends what magazines you use, which kinda.... sucks. ACE corrected that.

I would drown my sorrows in hot sauce, and then I would go post my experience in the "DayZ Needs a Tank" thread. -
After the outbreak, they were all quickly hoarded by bandit clans and abusive admins.

I'm just gonna go with "yes" on principle, because I would like to see it hardware notwithstanding. -

Not sure whether to vote "yes" or "no"... I'd love to see it, but it would kill my frames. -
Adding to my previous post... Removing the dots may make players harder to spot, but that works both ways. It's not a disadvantage to anyone if it is a disadvantage to everyone, right? Also, removing it could make things like ATVs or tents easier to hide from other players who wouldn't have spotted them without a dot.
