    What is Your Gaming Setup?

    With Intel HD integrated graphics, 4 GB RAM and a Core i3, this thing is smoking (almost literally when playing for long periods...)

    Weapon Customisation

    My thoughts? I hope it isn't as easy as 1, 2, 3. I have a terrifying vision in my head of people mounting ACOGs and forward grips to AKs or every M4 coming with a quad rail... I really don't want the weapons in the game to be transformed into a sort of 3D "Pimp My Gun", but it does seem likely and it will irk me if it happens. I'm easily irked when it comes to guns and games.

    Throwing Hatchets

    No throwing hatchets, please, and for the love of God... no throwing knives! Why? Go take a hatchet and throw it at a target, see how successful you are... literally, go try it now! Or whenever you can! Now imagine trying that on a human who is not at an exact distance and who may or may not be trying to dodge... 1. Hatchets are not ideal for throwing 2. Most people aren't 11th Century Norsemen 3. Just spend the 0.5 seconds to sprint to your target and hack it up This would seem pretty "fantasy" to me.

    Country in the North

    Some things I would like to see in the new Chernarus: - a river or two large enough for boats, with bridges over it and areas narrow enough to ford, and this could come down into the swampland we have seen, perhaps some of its banks obscured by trees and foliage - destroyed town (imagine Kumyrna but larger) - better cliffs and rocky outcrops with some bushes along edges, good for scouting or ambushes (right now cliffs suck!) And if we had better cliffs we would need better tumbling and falling... sliding 100 feet down Pik Kozlova like you're on some wacky water slide is immersion breaking.

    Make the shelcasings stay until restart.

    No way! Are you gonna pick them up and reload them? I think not... this is not a bad suggestion but it would cause a ton of lag as Macabre said, just like dead bodies, etc already cause lag. It's just not worth seeing frames drop.
  6. To make this work there needs to be a large chance of failing to knock them out, and also a chance of accidentally killing the player.
  7. They definitely need to work on it a bit, I remember laughing at some player on a private hive who was quite annoyed at being killed by a few zombies while in an armored Vodnik with bulletproof windows...

    Yup, it's quite a bit weaker in terms of energy, but in terms of the effect on the target, as always that depends. The Makarov HAS to fire a weaker cartridge since it is a blowback pistol with an unlocked breech... the 9x18mm was about as powerful as was safe to use in that design. The Tokarev is a better pistol in many ways but is larger, heavier, single-action and has no applied safety which means it's unsafe to carry with a round in the chamber. The Soviets probably didn't expect to use a pistol in combat anyways and just wanted something lighter, newer and more useful for unexpected personal defence.

    Damages are hard to even out, however I think the damages should stay the same and player health should be reduced by 1/3 or even 1/2.

    Maybe they could ADD Makarov variants and other Russian pistols (I'd like to see a Tokarev) but I don't want any replacing of famous weapons going on.

    The damage isn't appropriate for it, it should be doing roughly twice as much. I took three magazines to the chest and I didn't even die from it... some shots MUST have missed. It should be able to take someone out in a few shots, not a few dozen...

    I thought the Russian Army now use something called the randomjumbleofnumbers "Grach" which fires a high-velocity 9x19mm load. I gotta say "nix" to this suggestion because the Makarov PM is very common in the former Soviet Bloc, many countries produced their own identical versions and Russia even presented engraved versions to special individuals. The Makarov is quite a famous and classic pistol over there. I've heard you can even use it as a bottle opener. You'd be more likely to see Makarov PMs in Chernarus than any upgraded Russian version. Anyways, I looked it up and I found: The Makarov PMM was never adopted by or isued to Russian forces, and also is more commonly found with a 10-round magazine, not 12. Wikipedia says it is the most well-known variant because... well, because it's the most well-known VARIANT of the basic Makarov. So.... no.
  14. @bluecrackers: Balance isn't an element of DayZ, realism is. The AS50 does 5 times as much damage as the M107. The AS50 does more damage than a 25mm HE round. I think it even does more damage than 30mm rounds. That's unrealistic and that's why I have a problem with it. Keep the M107, remove the AS50 (or make it do a realistic amount of damage). Or just replace both with the KSVK, I don't really care as long as it's changed. I don't like knowing that there are ridiculous inconsistencies between various weapons... @Vindicator I see where you're coming from however I don't want to see standard military weapons like the M16s and AKs removed from DayZ. I don't care terribly either way about the .50s. If anything it sounds like the standalone will have more "tacticool" guns... Rocket was talking about lots of different scopes and attachments, and as everyone knows rails and attachments the epitome of tacticool. I hope they keep things real... I don't want every gun to look like something Gecko45 dreamed up. (For example, an AKM. Forget about simply attaching things, the receiver cover is NOT friendly to optics and unless you have tools and an aftermarket rail system or a Soviet side mount you are not going to be putting anything on it). I kinda hope the standalone doesn't let you customize EVERY gun because on some guns would just not be worth the trouble and random Chernarussian AKs are not all going to have Picatinny rails... probably none would. As for the damage, I would like to see: 1. More hit locations 2. Semi-random damage, the effect depending on the caliber and the location hit but also allowing for the occasional feat of survival or lucky kill shot

  16. I doubt one shot from a .50 would take out an armoured vehicle, especially since most armoured vehicles nowadays are able to stop .50 calibre rounds. Anyways, reviewing my stance, I want the AS50 out of the game, pronto. Stick it on the ban list... I'm fine with the M107 but the AS50 has to go.

    Progression System in DayZ Standalone

    DayZ doesn't need a progression system, the only reward for playing is experience and skill, not experience and skill "points". And rewarding honesty and cooperation? Seems one sided... How about rewarding the number of kills you have? Heh.

  19. Kamenka is one of my favorite spawns. I run up and hit the deerstands above it, then the ones near Bor and then I go to Zelenogorsk for supplies. The only thing lacking from the Kamenka spawn is morphine... usually you can find some on players who are headed North to the airfield.

    DayZ MOD Vs. DayZ Standalone

    Most changes look good, I have faith in the devs. One thing I'm a bit apprehensive about is the guns... Will they keep ArmA 2's realistic ballistics, weapon handling and bullet penetration? I hope so. Another thing I hope they're working on is a more complicated damage system, no use having realistic guns if you don't have them doing realistic damage (no more toe-shot kills or ALWAYS being able to take 2 shots from a certain weapon, etc...).

    I have a dream.

    I have a mic but I absolutely hate using it, having been brought up in the days of Gameboy Color and Sega Genesis where such things didn't exist, so I'll usually shoot people because typing out "friendly?" is too much trouble.
  22. Speaking of rocket launchers, why don't we ever see any RPG-7Vs or newer versions? Don't tell me they're not common, far more common in real life than those silly AS50s... and with the OG-7 warhead they're very deadly anti-personnel / anti-chopper weapons too.

  24. W-w-w-what? Do you mean the two controversial rifles with over 10,000 ft-lbs of muzzle energy, or all scoped rifles save the CZ 550? The first I don't mind, the second would be a major *cough* fuckup. Too lazy to look it up since I'm on a mobile device from 2008 and everything takes ten times as long.
  25. I thought Bohemia did a very good job of fixing this on the Takistan map. Unfortunately DayZ Takistan doesn't have a great post-apocalyptic atmosphere...
