There is no standard SVD as of 1.7.5.1... they only added in the M40A3. It really makes no sense, there should be SVDs or SVD-alikes all over the place compared to the amount of M40A3s or M107s there would be in a former Soviet republic...

How are helicopters realistic?
-Gews- replied to cheezitschrist's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Heh, gotta disagree with you there. Clicking "auto-hover" and pressing Q and W isn't that hard if you ask me. If you have several commands to learn just to take off many people tend to throw their hands in the air and give up. Adding in realism is not balancing. It can have a balancing effect, and that is a good thing. Not just anyone can hop into a helicopter and understand what this means: -
And add in a normal SVD with a higher spawn rate than the camo one... why are SVDs so rare in Chernarus?

Last time I shot a hero he RAGED in side chat. A couple days later he got the admin to ban me from the server... Some hero.

Balota Buddies, white-listing problem,s
-Gews- replied to marek100play's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
"on they forum,s and do not white-listing any one" Forty-eight hours? I find it hard to believe that, and what kind of person are you to have a spare 48 hours to sit around in Teamspeak anyways? Do you have a bucket? -
Agreed, add, not replace. Toks are cool. The cartridge is a bit strange though, a small bullet at a fast velocity... you have the big bore people saying it's fairly ineffective and you have the high velocity people saying it's quite potent. I think if they introduce it they should keep the damage the same as a 9mm, the 7.62x25, although small, really punches through stuff.

Reworked Bullet Ballistics and Terminal Ballistics
-Gews- replied to gibonez's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Agreed 100%, the ACE mod makes all things gun-related more realistic and also more fun. -
I'd count it as a blessing from the Almighty Beanz and take the opportunity to loot the airfield up, down, and sideways before logging out with some damn fine gear.

Have you stumbled upon one of the fabled "No PvP, no PvE" servers?

What's the most unrealistic thing you've ever survived?
-Gews- replied to colekern's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Three Makarov mags to the chest from about 10 feet... then the guy's hatchet took me out. Crashing my Mi-17 at 200 km/h straight headfirst into the ocean. -
Makes sense as long as players aren't automatically turned into "Jack Dagger" or given mysterious tomahawk skills. I really don't want to see knife or hatchet throwing being an effective and easy way to kill people...

Replace M107/AS50 with less effective russian equivalent

Who Else Thinks 1.7.5.1 Pushes Annoyance and Survival Too Far?
-Gews- replied to Diz (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I know, right, dumb decision IMO. I haven't actually noticed any differences in zombie difficulty in this patch, apart from one time I tried hiding in a bush and a zed hit me anyways. I spent about 10 full minutes in Solnichniy destroying two cars with a crowbar, zombies all around me, and I mean all around me, and they were just a minor irritant. I ran into houses, threw flares, tin cans, just acting stupid and nothing happened to me. Then I got bored and decided to suicide by zombie and it took them ages to kill me. In fact, they didn't kill me... I wasn't dying and the zeds lost interest so eventually I just ran off a cliff... -
People keep thinking I'm saying "Daisy"
-Gews- replied to "Lost" Alice's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I call it Day Zee even though I say "zed" everywhere else. I've heard some people call it "days", and that just sounds weird... Edit: actually Day Zed makes sense since they're zeds, not zees, no one calls zombies zees. And no I don't care about the etymology of the game title, the Z stands for zombie in my books, sue me. -
Replace M107/AS50 with less effective russian equivalent

For sure... Interesting fact which relates to the subject of the 5.56mm being "designed to wound"... this wasn't the first cartridge said to be designed for that purpose. In Philip Sharpe's book The Rifle In America he talks about how the .30 Carbine was designed to wound instead of kill, which would tie up far more enemy resources than just killing them outright. One interesting anecdote he shared was about a serviceman who was driving along and saw a crow (this was the 1940s) and stopped the car to shoot it with his M1 Carbine. After the first shot broke its wing, it tried to fly away and the guy fired all fifteen rounds to take it down. On inspection, the crow had three bullet holes through its body. Another story involving the M1 Carbine was in an impromptu wartime hunt in Germany which Mr. Sharpe participated in (he only had a 1911, the other three soldiers had M1 Carbines). They ran into a 45-pound roebuck only 30 feet away and opened fire... "...approximately 40 rounds were fired before a lucky one caught the little fellow in the base of the spine and dropped him" Apparently the buck had twenty-two bullet holes in it and kept running! Now that is by no means a weak round, 110 grains at almost 2000 fps (the 9x18mm is only 95 grains at roughly half the speed). Just interesting stories from the wacky world of terminal ballistics. :P -
Some models of cars shouldn't have alarms because they are old and cheap (Lada, GAZ, Ural, V3S, UAZ etc) but any newer models such as the SUV or red hatchback, etc, could have this feature. Would be cool and would add to the immersion as long as it doesn't go off every time something hits it.

Yes, but then you have the problem of relativity... Bohemia uses (roughly) the energy of the round to calculate the damage it does. If you boost pistol calibers only, then you have an issue with how they compare to the rifle rounds. On the other hand you can't tell how effective a round will be simply from its energy. The Makarov in the game fires FMJ, there is a massive difference in the effect Hornady's hollowpoints will have compared to FMJ. Also, you can't say "this would be lethal", because of course it could be, but then on the other hand you have stories of people taking .45 hollowpoints and carrying on like nothing happened. It all depends on the person and where you hit them. The problem with the game right now is you can't shoot someone in the heart and kill them, unless it's a headshot, the round does essentially the same damage every time, which is unrealistic and should be fixed. I weep. Well, I wouldn't say "never". Famous example, the US Army had a different experience with Moro warriors charging them in the Phillipines... their .38s (probably about the same effectiveness as a Makarov) were not effective in stopping the warriors. Also I've heard from at least one person, neither were the .45s... I agree it's ridiculous the Makarov is worse than a hatchet. It's pretty annoying. Which is why I want to see a revamped damage system... Well, on the other hand there were Western military operations in Chernarus before the outbreak, hence the wrecked Humvees all over the roads. But on the other other hand, that was just a backstory so they could have an explanation for using the default ArmA weapons.

I like that face, it's cute. I've had plenty of experience with that face... it's been used on me hundreds of times, so much so, in fact, that a couple years ago I made a jack-o'-lantern of it: The good ol' salty face. Sorry for the off-topic post, just had to mention. -
More cars. (This is not a "ADD A LIMO" thread.)
-Gews- replied to CreepySalad's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
GAZ limos, for sure. -
If they don't give away their location in side, wait by areas they're likely to visit. If all else fails, wearing my Q-ray seems to bring good luck...

Would pissing oneself laughing raise the Stink-O-Meter 3000? If so, I'd better watch out for those zeds right now! This is DayZ, not Captain Underpants!

Makes sense as long as it's well done. I think more than terrain, footwear would affect a player. Going on a long run to the NWAF? Don't wear Crocs or your character will get blisters and slow down...
-
Wasn't there some mention of bathroom breaks in the Standalone? Heheh, maybe failing to empty your character's bowels could result in quite a noisome mess... But seriously, no.

I'm prety sure the Standalone will allow plenty of Rupaul moments.
