Tips for raiding North West Airfield??

Agreed, the only reason I went there was to kill people. I get most all my gear from deer stands or other players. ^_^ -
Tips for raiding North West Airfield??
-Gews- replied to TheSpenceeee's topic in New Player Discussion
Don't aggro zombies, watch for snipers, keep moving, have help. I stalked some guy at NWAF today, he was hiding in the forest and I saw him disconnect (zombies disappeared). A couple minutes later he jumped back in and looted the barracks, then ran along the hangars looking for loot and disconnected again. Next time he logged in I shot him a few times and stole his DMR, he was totally loot focused. There's not too much you can do to prevent unseen ghillie snipers taking you out, there's always gonna be that risk. Just hope no one's camping it. -

Right next to it, zoomed in. You can tell because he adjusts it. As for the above video... he doesn't say what range he's shooting at. -

Battlefield may try to be realistic, but it doesn't try nearly as hard as ArmA. I don't know why bullets feel faster in Battlefield, all I know is that the speeds in ArmA are pretty correct. Check out this video, about 30 seconds in: You can see the vapor trail from the bullet and how long it takes to hit after it is fired. 1030 yards is 941 meters. -

Are you serious? If you don't know anything about how real bullets travel, how can you say ArmA has unrealistic bullet travel, especially compared to... BATTLEFIELD?! Here are some in-game ArmA stats: ----------------Muzzle-------300m-------800m--- AKM-----------710-----------392--------148---- M16A2--------930-----------601--------295---- M24-----------900-----------679--------425---- Now for the approximate real-world values: ----------------Muzzle--------300m--------800m--- AKM----------710------------426----------157---- M16A2-------930------------633----------305---- M24----------900------------675----------374---- As you can see, ArmA is not perfect, but they're certainly not too far off. They're actually surprisingly close to the real-world, given the complexity of real ballistics calculations. ArmA uses a very simplified system but the results are still good. Note how slow the AKM rounds are going at 800m... in the 500 ft/s range. Very weak. That calculation is quite accurate, they've been measured with Doppler radar. -
Why Being a Bandit is Good and Bad-are Heroes any better?
-Gews- replied to applejaxc's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
On the other hand, it's helpful to have an AMR for PvP purposes, even self-defence. I agree though, only the Ghandis of DayZ wouldn't take out a ghillie with an AS50 given the opportunity, and I dislike coast snipers. By the way, too many Dashie avatars in one thread! -
Why Being a Bandit is Good and Bad-are Heroes any better?
-Gews- replied to applejaxc's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I usually like bandits, until they open their mouths / open fire. I like the towels. I met a cool German one when I first started playing and we found ghillies and 50 cals and ambushed a convoy. Guess he just randomly decided to help some newspawn, God knows why. I've met plenty of douche heroes, too. I don't think hero/bandit means too much. Each personality is way too different for a three-skin choice-based system to accurately represent. -
Saucepan! Rolling pin!
-
Dragonskin is kind of controversial. Pro: lightest Level III armour, flexible, great coverage, impressive demonstrations Con: sometimes doesn't stop rounds, failed DoD test, reports of scales detaching in Iraq
-
If hero's run faster than bandits than what do bandits do better than a hero?
-Gews- replied to Dai Tou Zai's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
A lot of heroes are bandits these days... Wouldn't it be cool if bandits looked like Tusken raiders? -
But yup, I've always suspected that might be the case, I don't trust BattEye. How though?

Are Cherno and Elektro staying for the standalone? i hope not!
-Gews- replied to elf cakes's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I can track a man in the dark of the night, I can track a moccasined foot over bare rock. I am the bear and I am the eagle. Manitou guides me. They call me "One-Who-Thinks-Like-Dog". I don't like Cherno and Elektro much, too small and a sniper's paradise. I don't understand the appeal, I get my morphine and I get out immediately. Expansion of both would be good in my opinion, with more room there will be more places to hide. -
Well since magazines automatically push the next bullet to the top, you wouldn't know unless it was translucent or had holes, or a slot in it. Much better than automatic bullet counters, though. (ACE,,,, where aaaare you)

Unrealistic Injurys when falling etc
-Gews- replied to Phased (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Personally, I wouldn't want to go running off anything 2m in height with a full backpack. I wouldn't want to go running off of anything 2m in height at all! I agree they could make it more complicated, maybe have a stumble / falling animation and cause you to limp for a while for smaller falls. -
And I'm saying "fine, as long as it's realistically represented".

You have to be aware of the different rounds involved. 5.56mm rifles would fire 62-grain M885. 7.62mm NATO rifles would fire 147-grain M80. 7.62mm NATO sniper rifles (M24 and M40A3) would fire the 175-grain M118LR The DMR and M14 AIM would probably fire the M118LR as well, not the 147-grain M80. 7.62x39mm rifles would fire generic 123-grain ball at 2,350 ft/s. The Lee-Enfield would fire .303 British Mk.VII, a 174-grain bullet at 2,440 ft/s. The M107 is a bit iffy, standard issue load data is hard to find. Would probably fire M33 ball, but M33 ball comes in different specs from different manufacturers. The AS50 would fire a British load, too troublesome to find information online, use M33 data. The CZ550 is a tricky one. It claims it fires 9.3x62mm, but the magazine classname refers to .17 HMR and .22 LR, and the muzzle velocity and damage is identical to the 7.62mm sniper rifles. Hence, use values for any type of 150-grain 7.62mm hunting ammunition. The 5.45mm rifles would fire the 7N10, a 56-grain bullet at 2,900 ft/s. The Lapua rifles fire the B408 Lockbase at 3,071 ft/s. Handgun caliber data is less important, use ballistic coefficients from commerical loads with similar bullets. Shotgun pellets don't matter either, slug data is available if you Google around a bit. You'll need to use a ballistic calculator to find out the drift at different wind speeds and how range effects the velocity. Please note two important things: ballistic coefficients are designed for use compared to a "standard" projectile. How accurate the calculations will be depends on how close your projectile is to the "standard" one. That's why there are different ballistic coefficient systems, like G1, G5, G7. Make sure to use the correct coefficients - G7 will work better than G1 for "very low drag" bullets, etc. The G1 will work well for most standard military ammunition and hunting loads, etc. Also make sure to use the muzzle velocities presented in the configuration files to find out which loads the rifles are firing. If the M24 fires at about 2,600 ft/s, you know it's supposed to use M118LR, but if it fires at 2,800 ft/s, you know it is supposed to be using M80 ball, etc. Some loads will be hard to find information for - nearly impossible in some cases, e.g. the ballistic coefficients for the MkVII ammunition for the Lee-Enfield. In these cases you should estimate one using data from similar bullets and your general knowledge. You have some work ahead of you. -
Any kind of helmet should have real-world capabilities... a motorcycle helmet shouldn't stop a bullet of any kind, and a Kevlar helmet should only stop the types of bullets a Kevlar helmet would actually stop. ANY rifle round is going to punch through it unless you're very lucky, and pistol rounds would cause blunt shock, concussions, even skull fractures or death depending on the round and what angle they struck at.

Red dot and holographic sights are definitely not more common than scopes. Probably nowhere near as common outside of the US. If you look up pictures of Russian hunters, they seem to have shotguns for the most part (legal reasons). Others have rifles, some using irons, some scoped. Foreign trophy hunters seem to all bring in scoped bolt actions. I think more rifles like the CZ550 would make sense.
-
Tear gas grenades are an interesting idea. They could apply some kind of filter or special effects that make aiming hard and vision blurry and difficult. No to poison or nerve gas, though.
-
AS50s are not "common" anywhere in the world. Is any military even currently issuing them? I thought the UK was still using the Accuracy International .50s. I want scoped weapons capable of reaching out 1000m+, I just don't want AS50s.

The Humvee. Louder than an SUV, slower than an SUV, and lacks GPS, but is slightly more bullet resistant (at least that's been my experience) and is still great off-road. Apart from that... bicycle!

Cease fire - No PVP - Friendly and active admins
-Gews- replied to blynx's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
If someone wanted to make a proper "no PVP" server, they'd remove all the weapons spawns. Players would have to be more careful about aggroing zombies. They'd also have to spawn more wood piles.,, wait, actually they wouldn't since you'd be unable to kill cows. And remove the vehicles so you can't run over people. "No PvP" servers make about this much sense. -
Taser X26, anyone?

Night sucks, flashlight sucks. When else do you need to fire them? Bear Grylls style! Is it just me or did you already mention the night thing? Dem psychopaths. Did you say "afraid of death"? I could have sworn the coast was Hell Central. Gotta Catch Them All! It's been out of style since Proverbs 11: "The Lord hates cheating, but he delights in honesty."
