gore and dismemberment and sewing back on limbs
-Gews- replied to jona (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Don't support, too silly. I don't mind limbs being blown off via grenade, though. I don't think even a .50 BMG would take off a leg. Of course it's possible it could dismember someone if it hit them right, but I doubt it would be par for the course. It definitely wouldn't blow them in half. There are a couple well-known videos on Youtube of "Taliban" being shot by it and exploding, but those "Taliban" are actually little critters called rock chucks. It will definitely make a big hole in someone. With Raufoss ammunition... yep, it could take off a limb or leave it hanging by threads. Gore gore gore... I don't mind ragdoll gore during firefights, but it's not going to happen. Far too much work, and too much of a performance hit. -
Fun fact: A CZ550 will run you about $800 less scope, a new M24 will run you (as a civilian, if you can find one) about $7000... gah! Price gouging... <_<

Oh, about my last post, I was thinking ahead, to the standalone. Right now we don't have any suitable replacement for the .50 cals (except the KSVK, but that's another .50 cal). I think the AS50 should go (uses .338 sound, bugged mil dots, and bugged damage) and be replaced by the KSVK. I don't mind keeping the M107. Meh' date=' not in terms of sniper rifles. Civilian long-range rifles are every bit as good as the military stuff. Check out this GA Precision in .243 Winchester: [img'] or this Surgeon XL in .338 Lapua I don't find hunting rifles boring either, this Weatherby Mk.5 would be nice or guns like the Ruger Scout I posted the other day, or the semi-auto Browning BAR
-
I don't understand the overpowered complaints either (killed by a .50 caliber once, only once), yet I don't want these rifles in the game. I think it's unrealistic survivors would want to carry around a 30-lb rifle with magazines that weigh 4 lbs a piece! I want to be blown apart in one shot at 1200m ranges by .338 Lapua rifles, or .300 Winchester Magnum, etc... would do the same job, just more believably. Just my 2 cents.

how often would you trust a bandit skin character?
-Gews- replied to CorrosiveDragon's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Same as a survivor skin: shoot on sight. Unless they bothered to say "friendly" and I had little gear. -
Wasn't there a thread on here about player-generated trash and garbage, etc? I guess people could drink themselves to death. That would explain all the empty whiskey bottles.
-
It would help destroy immersion. People would be blowing their brains out all over the place (all over the place, ha), especially new spawns. In real life people generally try their utmost to survive. Call of Cherno is already bad enough. In this case, players should be forced into a certain playstyle. I call it the "stay the fuck alive" playstyle.
-
I don't want to be an enabler.
-
I can tell you right now... pretty much any scenario in Cherno usually ends with "and you heard the bang of an Enfield".
-
Uh, no, people in real life wouldn't slit their wrists just because they happened to wash ashore in a town called Kamenka.
-
Good idea, one should be able to fish off docks and such. I don't think people should be able to take fish from any body of water, though. There should also be some skill involved...
-
I dunno, I remember when the original Xbox died and $50 games were selling for $0.99 a pop. To the OP: I'd buy it. But I tend to be wasteful of money. Not that it's a waste, not at all. :D

Ya... I'm not convinced the military uses it at all. That's a quote from the guy who makes the damn things. I don't want to have highly unusual and rare weapons in the game. It makes no sense to have this thing in Chernarus. If we include the AA-12, we may as well include the XM8 series as well, or an OICW, or even one of those flechette firing ACR prototypes. This is supposed to be a realistic game, and that... thing... doesn't belong in it. /done

Long sleeves for the camouflage clothing please
-Gews- replied to jake264's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yes, long sleeves, please. It makes absolutely no sense why some guy would wear something without sleeves in the Chernarussian cold. I don't know why anyone would want to keep the short sleeves. -
Haven't handled one, but 16+ pounds loaded seems more "elephant rifle" than "shotgun"... if it was a common weapon I wouldn't care if it was stuck into the game, but it's not... at all. I'm positive no one actually uses it for police work or military duties either.

DayZ standalone more weapon camos sights grips idea
-Gews- replied to exomonkeyman's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This wouldn't work very well because a scope designed for a powerful rifle would be inappropriate for a cartridge that drops as quickly as a pistol round... I wouldn't want a 10x scope on an MP5 or what-have-you. Changing attachments is already going to be implemented in the standalone... not sure how close to ArmA 3 it will be. -

I don't collect figurines, I'm here for the show. I don't see the point in the AA-12... it's cool and all, but I don't understand where it fits into a modern military situation. Shotguns in Iraq were used for breaching doors, clearing houses and firing beanbag rounds to disperse crowds. The AA-12 is bulky, heavy and most likely slow-handling, and it probably isn't as reliable as a Mossberg or Benelli when using special ammunition. Atchisson was working on this design since the 70s, and it still hasn't caught on with... anyone at all! The same thing happened with one of the other three well-known full-auto shotguns, the Pancor Jackhammer. On the other hand, some sources say the USAS-12 sold well in Asia... All of the above doesn't even matter to me - I don't want to see it in the game because barely any AA-12s have been produced. AKMs, M16s, even M14s, those have all been produced in the millions... AA-12s... no. Difference is that Saiga's are actually quite common, both in the US and in Russia!
-
@Snilex: I don't care about it being overpowered, I care about it being... stupid. Who even uses it? Pretty much no one except that annoying bald guy on Future Weapons... I heard Blackwater had a few... some testing models... that's it. You're not going to find one in Chernarus, and you wouldn't find one in the US either. Silly weapon.

*cough* Namalsk *cough*
-
I wouldn't worry about it.
-
Lolno. I don't think it's realistically modelled... seemed way too easy to take out people at extended ranges in singleplayer. The sights suck too. And "The Expendables" isn't exactly what DayZ is aiming to emulate...

The most elegant solution to playerkilling on SA and possibly dayz mod
-Gews- replied to alanford's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I agree, this is a zombie (okay, infected for you pedants out there) game, and I am never killed by zombies these days. Never ever! They don't even present any sort of danger by themselves. The only time I try to avoid aggroing them is if I think another player might be watching. -
Damn, nice idea. Hoverounds! Crutches? Ehhh... I think most players would just jump off a cliff and run back to their gear at that point. Morphine fixing a broken leg isn't ideal either, though.
