Jets are from hackers, the fire is a glitch related to helicopter crashes. I've been lucky enough not to see A-10s in DayZ but I've heard reports of them over side chat.
-
No they are not, the CZ is .308 Winchester (nope, not 9.3x62mm, that's false) and the Lee-Enfield is .303 British.
-
Jesus Christ, you think hacking is okay if it's "funny"? Let me voice my thoughts with a sassy Oprah gif.

Bahahaha, when I was a noob I didn't realize it had two zoom levels either... found my first AS50 and was like Had an GREAT opportunity to shoot a group of survivors but couldn't see shit before someone killed me and stole it.

Admin Abuse is becoming a large problem.
-Gews- replied to Shrapnell's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've been somewhat lucky, I've only been in a couple servers where I suspected admins of abuse. The only ArmA/DayZ server I've been in where admins were freely admitting to abuse was "Ultimate-RP Cherno Wasteland #1". Chatting in the Teamspeak about spawning in Scud launchers, teleporting their friends around and generally ruining the game for everyone else. Quit that directly after... -
Except the 28 Days Later zombies aren't dead, so their bodies wouldn't deform any more than a normal cannibal's. I'm glad we don't have this type of silly zombie...

The current hand-to-hand combat sucks, since it's just technically a modified shooting system, that's understandable. I was playing Mount and Blade and they have a pretty decent melee system. Not all the aspects of medieval sword combat can apply to DayZ, but some of the features I liked were: -directional attacks: you basically hold the left button and swing your mouse in the direction you want to hit. This allows you to swipe at someone's head, or their legs, or thrust at their stomach, etc. -blocking: same thing, except you click the right mouse button and move it in the correct direction. Pick the wrong direction and you don't block the attack. I'm not very good at that. Problems with this - DayZ uses the right mouse button to zoom in. Also, I don't think random survivors would have great parrying skills with a hatchet or other random objects, but some form of simplified skill-based blocking would be nice. I'd like to see some form of this in the Standalone instead of simply "click the button to repeat the same hit animation". It makes combat a lot more fun. Ideas? More suggestions?

Reloading shot shell, a practical approach to the zombie apocalypse
-Gews- replied to wolfsburg62's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The case should be "attempted realism"... most people don't reload, and most of the people who reload don't reload shotgun shells. You'd be EXTREMELY unlikely to find equipment for doing so, even here in the US where people can afford reloading equipment. In Chernarus they wouldn't have people firing thousands of rounds per year in trap or CAS competitions, they'd more likely have poor villagers firing a dozen rounds per year at deer and those dunderhead boars. -
I find it fairly often as well, definitely more often than M24s.

http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/50872-cz550-vs-m24/ In sum: -no mil dots to calculate range and estimate drop -can't store ammo in DMR mags That's basically it.

I remember when all CoDs were set in the 1940s... sigh.
-
The bolt animation for the Lee-Enfield was incorporated in the Invasion 1944 mod. Ideally, all bolt rifles would have bolt animations.
-
Usually it's nearby objects on the ground that interfere with the ability to pick a backpack up... you shouldn't need to empty the bag itself, or your inventory.
-
Uh... yup... if you can't pick it up, remove all the other nearby objects and place them somewhere else, then retry.
-
Exactly, not too scarce, but hopefully less available than at present. More advanced melee systems are better because they allow player skill to trump superior weapons and/or numbers.
-
About the accuracy, I just checked the configs - false (unless I'm missing something  quite possible, me being me). -M16: dispersion = 0.0001 (0.00175 in full auto) M4A1: dispersion = 0.00175, same for full auto M4A3: dispersion = 0.00175, same for full auto The M4A3 doesn't handle faster (dexterity) than the M4A1 either.
-
Hmmm, that's strange, (IRL) vertical fore grips don't necessarily make a gun easier to shoot... it's personal preference and depends on the situation. I'm gonna look at the configs and check this out.

Rarity = very common, of course

By the way, if an "Obrez" (sawn-off Nagant) is ever added, one guy on YouTube has chronographed his and it was only going 1,350 ft/s with normal 148-grain ammo. Only about 600 ft-lbs muzzle energy with a .30-cal bullet, not a very impressive weapon except in terms of recoil, noise and muzzle flash. In DayZ it would do about 1,800 blood damage.

Pistols are incredibly underpowered
-Gews- replied to Shrapnell's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I wouldn't call it a nerf - before that, a Makarov did much more damage than an M9 (2000 compared to 1389) and a 1911 did 4500 damage, over 3 times as much as a 9mm and more than even a 5.45x39mm! They made a sensible change to the damages. Now a Makarov does the same as a 9mm, and a .45 round does only 1.5 times as much damage. That's not a nerf, that's product improvement. -
How many types of shotguns are there in Dayz.
-Gews- replied to Blondedash's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Nuh uh uh, in real life it's a rifle - in DayZ it's a shotgun that fires slugs. It even ejects empty 12-gauge hulls. If it was modelled as a .44 rifle, it wouldn't be doing 3,500 damage like all the shotgun slugs, it would be doing maybe 2,000 damage at the most. -
