Yup, although I usually get much better FPS in DayZ than in Wasteland. Must be all those cars and base parts... DayZ needs zombies to be DayZ, but right now they could replace zeds with Teletubbies and it wouldn't make a difference. One time I decided to destroy two cars with a crowbar in a town full of zeds, I killed tons and blew up both cars. Then I decided to commit suicide by zombie and got their attention, and then stood still and let them have at me. It took AGES for them to take my health down, and then they walked away and wouldn't attack me! I had to jump off a damn CLIFF to kill myself! That is not what I want to see. When I go into a town, I want to have a large chance of being ripped apart very quickly. Zombies should be dangerous. Really dangerous.

Consolidated Weapons/Equipment suggestions

Russian forces don't use 6.8 SPC in any form. The US Military isn't using it either. Any ammunition produced in Russia would be destined for the US civilian market. What Russian manufacturer are you talking about that produces 6.8? I never said anything about it not still being highly lethal, I said it wouldn't be "as effective". I wouldn't want to be shot by one... They have the 9x39mm, I don't know how common it is but there are a few guns chambered in it. I've heard it was popular in Chechnya. It's worth noting it is not a powerful round, despite sounding big and having an armor-piercing bullet- it has roughly the same level of energy as many .45 Auto loads. It was designed to be subsonic. -
Wasteland definitely isn't survival, Wasteland is a PvP grinder... fun, but different. I see the OP's point. At least for me, the zombies may as well be taken out right now since they pose no threat unless I'm being shot at, and being shot at is already a big enough threat. They're honestly just a distraction at the moment.

Consolidated Weapons/Equipment suggestions

I don't understand what the point is... yes, Americans have guns from all over the globe - most likely almost every type of firearm can be found in the hands of American collectors. The same isn't true for Russians, because most firearms are illegal over there. You're not even allowed to own a handgun of any type, and magazines larger than 10 rounds are prohibited. As for 6.8 SPC, no, you wouldn't find it in Russia or neighboring countries, compared to 5.56 and 7.62x39, it's not even popular in the US. Maybe a couple enthusiasts over there have a gun chambered in it, who knows? It's not going to be something you'd be even remotely likely to run across. And for the record Chernarus =/= Russia. Chernarus seems extremely poor and backwards, far more so than Russia... -

That background story was chosen simply to fit into the ArmA-verse (it was an ArmA mod) and explain the presence of all the US firearms and the hundreds of wrecked Hummers, and it still doesn't explain the presence of some things like Vietnam-era Hueys... AK clones are very common in the US, bad comparison. 6x35mm weapons aren't common anywhere on earth except the Knight's Armament headquarters... -

True, but personally I want to avoid those kinds of guns in the standalone since I don't know what the 6.8 SPC, 6.5 Grendel or especially the KAC round would be doing in Chernarus - they seem more suited to ArmA, if at all. I'd prefer mostly Eastern weaponry and nothing too high-tech or uncommon. Whenever I'm considering something for the standalone I try to think of places around the Caucasus and Balkans and what I would be likely to find there... when I see Western weapons and stuff it kills realism a little. Right now DayZ is kind of a mess, obviously, since Rocket and co simply took the most suitable things from vanilla ArmA... that's to be expected, it's a mod, but a standalone should have more effort put into making things seem authentic to the setting. -

However a short barrel will lower muzzle velocity, and that can have a drastic effect on the terminal performance downrange in calibers like the 5.56, as the bullet will not reliably fragment below about 2,500 fps, and short barrels can reduce the velocity to 2,500 fps at or near the muzzle, meaning you will not get reliable fragmentation at any range. -
Don't Be Fooled by Other Players: "Bad Guns" are Hidden Gems!
-Gews- replied to applejaxc's topic in New Player Discussion
Makarov fires 9mm, the PSM fires 5.45mm. One gun nobody will convince me of is the Winchester. For zombies, sure, it's great, but for anti-player purposes? On a cold day in hell... it's horrid. -
Furries!

I think they should include such vehicles as are likely to be found in a place like Chernarus... some of those cars could be better than a crappy Lada or similar, but not most. I don't want to see a bunch of Western cars or racers. For example the VAZ-2109 is a pretty popular car in former Soviet satellites, I guess it would be like their equivalent to an early 90s Honda Civic. Good for tuning. It even has a nickname, "devyatka". I remember reading some article from Dagestan about how some militia members pulled up in a UAZ and sprayed the occupants of one with a hail of bullets... I guess some organized crime would have more fancy black SUVs or large, fast sedans and some of those could be included. The current Chevy SUV doesn't fit the setting at all... need more Mercedes, etc. Same for helicopters, having Hueys and Little Birds makes no sense, they should be replaced with indigenous types.

Text Chat converts to Text-To-Speech (Standalone)
-Gews- replied to TIC's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Text-to-speech? Something like this perhaps? -
Right now if you shoot someone in the leg with any reasonably powerful gun, BOOM BROKEN LEG. I like the idea but they need to tone down on the leg breaking and add in a couple other injury levels, like a relatively shallow wound or a more serious "flesh" wound that misses bone... It would also be cool if you hit an artery and there was an animation of blood spraying half a foot in the air as your character quickly bleeds out. This would also affect survivors' ability to escape zombies... people would have to be a lot more careful if they walk with a limp, especially if zombies are going to have improved pathfinding and the ability to run indoors.

Shooting for teh lulz already occurs... Go watch videos of people making varmints explode at several hundred yards... even a prairie dog is far cuter and less bothersome than some raggedy-ass "survivor" running around with a rifle and taking vital supplies for himself. So - keep making those "survivors" fail to live up to their name...

But what if I want to role-play as a highly intelligent cold-blooded psycophath completely unaffected by human emotions? Animated gif for Orlok.

Ow, damn! I didn't notice this little tidbit the first time 'round... Ack! Don't do it, man! It's the coward's way out!

You can't really do anything about it, I can't think of any solution which would work without changing the entire game. I guess you need to find a private hive which is full of like-minded people.

Toilet paper works okay for when I nick my finger, but I haven't been infected yet because I don't wipe my ass and then use it to bandage my wounds. I haven't checked to see how toilet paper works on deep hatchet cuts or rifle wounds yet.

Oh, dang, I remember who this guy is now. I knew him as "blackface Robert Downey Junior avatar". He only had 112 posts... not exact thread-worthy.

Wat. Being Captain of the Virginia Militia?

Heheh, make Christopher Dorners out of the buggers. I like it.

^ Anyways I don't think a hot air balloon seems like a very practical transportation method in a zombie apocalypse, especially for all the non-hot air balloon operators out there. I mean, hot air balloons are typically only designed and used for fun these days. Look what happened to the S. A. Andrée expedition. If I had my druthers I'd seriously consider taking out all forms of airborne transport, perhaps the occasional light helicopter or civilian Cessna.

SVD Camouflage vs M40A3 Camouflage.
-Gews- replied to LancerG2's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I prefer the SVD for practical uses, I play solo and wander around the map, and I need a rifle which is also good at those unexpected close and medium range encounters. The SVD works great in any reasonable range engagement up to about 700m - the only time you'd really need more magnification and accuracy is if you're camping... -
Coincidence? Heheheh.
-
Yes, I'm aware of machine guns requiring barrel changes  but the notion already-overloaded infantry are going to carry spare barrels just in case they'd prefer a slightly shorter one for close-quarters is ridiculous... I really don't want to see ridiculous "upgrades" like in Battlefield where you can stick a "heavy barrel" on a sniper rifle which should already have a heavy barrel...

Ouf, I'm not a fan of the weapon customization to be honest... at least, I'm not a fan of what I think it would turn out to be like. I already don't like being able to switch optics instantly in ArmA 3... customization also usually needs tacticool and those types of weapons aren't what I wanna see... also why would anyone spend the time and effort to change a barrel in a combat situation???
