  1. Did you guys know they banned carrying a passenger on a motorcycle in Honduras? Reason being they would roar through traffic on a bike, stop beside a target's car and have the passenger empty a submachine gun into the unfortunate bugger... So shooting from cars can be a viable tactic. The only reason this hasn't already been added in is because it would be hard to implement and there are more important things to fix / add, but it's a good suggestion. It's already hard to shoot from a moving vehicle in ArmA.
  2. I'm pretty sure everyone wants to see a Nagant in DayZ. http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/1098-petition-to-add-the-mosin-nagant-to-day-z/
  3. It would also be really hard to move around with an arrow stuck through your torso. Consider all the mass concentrated directly behind the tip of an arrow... yikes. Compared to a bullet they take much less energy to send through something. As far as I'm aware, arrows don't generally have as much immediate "stopping power" as powerful bullets do, and it also generally takes longer for the animal to die compared to a hunting bullet from a high-powered (I hate that term) rifle. Maybe the standalone could look at that with a bit more depth...
  4. You know me. I'd rather have the crossbow remain a separate weapon for various reasons. There are a few crossbow designs from the East, the AK-48 is pretty cool for example. Not the most modern or powerful but pretty nice looking... I just want a scope on the crossbow to be honest. I've always said we need a PKM, too...

    Skilled Vs Unskilled bandits

Well today I played some DayZ after reading this. Commander tells me it's been 16 days since I last played, schedules are a bitch. Anyways I decided to specifically look for people to kill on sight, no questions, no comments, no looting, no point, just straight out murdering some fools. My guy was was sick but I ran North from Zelenogorsk and didn't see anyone. Some people said they were in Stary over side channel so I headed there, hid in a tree on Pop Ivan and observed the town with my DMR scope. No zombies, but almost immediately I notice a player lying down camping near a bush on the hill above town, boom, one-shot kill, 850 meters, I run away to change positions and a couple minutes later I start losing connection and get kicked off by BattlEye, "client not responding". <_< So... Does that count as a KoS noob kill? Or does simply being farther North make it "okay"?

Am I the only one who feels an urge to KoS purely out of spite after reading through this thread? <_<

    [SA] Infected Melee Weapons

I'd prefer if they didn't have weapons, but it's not a bad suggestion. Giving them primitive weapons would make it seem like I was fighting a bunch of cavemen. I think they need the ability to grab hold of players.
  8. That would be nice. I haven't checked lately, I refuse to use 1911s. <_<
  9. Huh... the 1911 has magazines. I suppose you're right, you can magically make a magazine and an extra round from a 6 shot speed loader.
  10. You can make M24 ammo from M14 magazines because the M24 doesn't take magazines, it uses loose rounds. You could load 30 round magazines with bullets from an M249 belt...

How do you fight players in CQC?

I hate CQC because I get low frames. If I get shot at from close by, I empty half a magazine in their general direction and then sprint to the nearest cover. I usually run around buildings or try to pop out from unexpected places, kill someone and run to a different place. If they seem to be alone I'll tend to wait more, if they're rolling in a group I keep moving.
  12. You're not gonna be able to make your own safe blanks by simply pulling the bullets out... it would be safer and easier to use purpose-made blank ammunition. I think this is unnecessary, it would be good for a trick once or twice but would get old fast. Nix.
  13. Chance needs to be incorporated into the bullet damage. Bullets don't do a fixed amount of damage, in real life the terminal effects can vary wildly. More powerful rounds should have a high likelihood of doing a lot of damage. Less powerful rounds should have a small likelihood of doing a lot of damage. But both the weaker and stronger rounds should have a chance of doing less damage than "normal", as well as massive damage or outright killing with a single shot. The larger the round the better chances of a quick kill - but not a certain outcome. Edit: Actually, I was just thinking... if any of you have played one of those games like Dungeons & Dragons, you've used dice to roll for damage. That in itself is already more "advanced" than the damage systems in most games, and incorporating chance would be much like incorporating a kind of virtual die.

    Vehicle Customisation

The scrap metal armor is apparently planned for the standalone. It makes sense to me, but it shouldn't be able to stop any reasonably powerful round fired from anywhere close to 90 degrees - 7.62 would go through light galvanized sheets without blinking. At lower angles of incidence, I imagine they could certainly deflect or lower the damage of certain rounds. Heavier steel plates would provide much more protection but would also slow down a vehicle's performance and increase gas guzzling. Bush bars and other mods would be cool, too. I watched "Chinatown" recently and was reminded of the usefulness of running boards in a quick getaway, perhaps some vehicle mods could help with that, too. Take off the doors and gain the ability to hop in and out faster, etc. Bulldozers would be an interesting addition. There are small quarries on the map and they could be found there, although I don't want to see one of those monstrous armoured bulldozers capable of shrugging off small arms fire. Trailers make sense and they are found on the map already, but are unusable objects. Should be added. Not sure about the engine swaps, I don't think a car engine would work in a quad, and in a zombie apocalypse I wouldn't spend time and effort on something that could potentially turn a perfectly good car into a pile of nuts and bolts merely to gain a few more MPH.

    Face camo ban-able?

My character had the standard blue and white face-paint for a bit, I never had any problems with that. Now he has a greasy 'stache. Banning for face paint seems excessive, that kind of thinking could even lead to racism since the black skin is harder to spot than the white.

DayZ SA: Make zombies a threat

Agreed, even the zombies in Shaun of the Dead were more of a threat than the DayZ infected... This is more what I wanna see... grab you and eat you in seconds.
  18. My "no advanced weapons" opinion seems to be reflected by Rocket: "'It's not going to be about advanced weaponry. The only advanced weapons that are going to be in are the ones with attachments'." Your opinion of "add something because it's uber cool" =/= product improvement. Retarded comments easily elicit rage. The tears will be rolling down your cheeks if and when the standalone fails to add in Hueys, Messerschmidts and miniguns. Also, welcome to my ignore list... people who hold differing and strong opinions are fine - but people who start throwing juvenile insults aren't worth dealing with.
  19. Sis, please. "Screw it, it's fiction, no need to make sense, and no need for input or product improvement" ? Get real.
  20. It's still an ArmA mod, but it's outgrown the so-called "ArmA community". I'm of the opinion there's no need to stick to the ArmA backstory for the standalone - even with the current backstory I'm unconvinced of the availability of NATO weapons. Any conflict in those regions tends to be extremely Kalashnikov-based. The UH-1H is an American helicopter first built in 1959... I don't understand why Hueys would be in Chernarus, as far as I know the US never operated Hueys in that corner of the world (Chernarus is a former Soviet country, so they wouldn't have operated anything in it during the Cold War). If you take the view it's from Takistan, that makes less sense... the Takistanis wouldn't fly to Eastern Europe or the Balkans and drop off a squadron of old Hueys. Also, the UH-1Y is not a Huey/Iroquois. The UH-1Y is a Venom and/or "Super Huey". They would never introduce a UH-1Y even though it should be common - NATO operations, tons of crashes, but none to fly? What gives? What gives is that compared to the Huey it's practically indestructible, so, again, they were making use of the available vehicles that would best fit into the game, not the ideal vehicles for the game.
  21. Hooooooooooooooooooooooly shit you play a lot of games... you probably have well over a year just playing games... if I ever get to that point, someone please smash my computer and drop me off in the woods.

    standalone - motorcycles (cruisers)

I know he wants to make one but I haven't been following, too lazy to look it up... a map that size would take some time to make, depending on how much effort they put into the little details.

    standalone - motorcycles (cruisers)

I'd like to see this on an American map, if one is ever released. Surprisingly there are actually cruiser-style bikes in Russia and the Caucasus... how many, I don't know, but they seem to be at least somewhat popular all over the world, although I wouldn't want to see them be easy to find in Chernarus. This from Chechnya:
  24. I don't have a problem with those accents... but I've had a problem with every talkative Australian I've met. I try to stay away from those guys.

    Is using teamspeak 'cheating'?

Do I consider it cheating? No... Would I prefer they didn't? Yes, in an ideal world players would have to use proximity chat or radios to contact teammates. That's not gonna happen anytime soon since Teamspeak and similar programs are easy to use and provide a great advantage as well as allow friends to talk and chat without any "radio silence".
