Holding a key to raise weapon? Your thoughts

People with mice always have the advantage.

    Wind and ballistics system

In real life you can feel the wind on your body or judge from other objects... I'm sure there will be some kind of system introduced to judge it (not like some kind of human Kestrel 4500, but a close enough guess), otherwise Balliztic has a very good point. I thought ACE did it well with the coloured arrows (heheh notice an ACE theme here?). I don't have a problem with icons that are only on-screen when you press a key-combo to view them. I read somewhere that British snipers once used IRA flags to judge wind speed and were able to make hits out to over 1,400 yards... now that's impressive.
  3. Speaking of machine guns... *in sports chant style* P-K-M! P-K-M! P-K-M! This guy agrees:

    Noob Bandits

I had a fun kill today, I've been trying a different play style lately, wandering around the more remote Northern areas without any real goal and not caring about loot... I passed up a pristine Huey today. Don't run into as many people in those areas. Anyways I looked over Novy Sobor from the hills to the North and noticed a bandit running along the road about 400m away, lay down and shot him. He ran into a cluster of bushes and trees and I watched him start heading up into the trees. I decided to change position and circle round to wait for him to run uphill to try to escape / flank me, and as soon as I got into my new position behind some rocks a couple hundred meters up the hill, as expected he suddenly appeared running straight at me out of some trees less than 30 meters away and I got some extra bandages and a tin of pasta (was needing those). I haven't killed a lot of people lately.
  5. Damage is directly related to velocity. Half velocity = half damage, etc. You can't hit anything at long range with those weapons anyways, so damage reduction over distance doesn't matter so much for those guns. IMO player health should be reduced a bit instead.

Holding a key to raise weapon? Your thoughts

Not unless I can somehow use my mouse to do it. Holding down a keyboard button would be a pain to use with other movement controls. Actually, the spacebar might work quite well but I use that for "hold breath" at the moment. A good idea... it would just have to be implemented carefully.

    My Suggestions For DayZ. #1

No flintlocks, who the hell has a flintlock? Maybe Dick Turpin or Captain Hornblower... Yes, knife. Need a knife. No Contender, they're less common than CZ550s, especially in Europe. Doesn't fit setting. Could work... nails bomb, anyone? No throwing knives or axes of any sort! Unrealistic. I don't mind more melee weapons, lead pipe, rebar, etc. No chainsaw, chainsaws as weapons were too unrealistic for even George A. Romero to include in his movies.

    Tent packing

Agreed, tents should be able to be packed up and removed without destroying them.

    [SA] Infected Melee Weapons

Nope, I assumed that as well. I think that would be an unnecessary detail, poison weapons are usually only used in assassinations or when the weapon itself isn't powerful enough to kill outright, i.e. sumpitans, etc.
  12. Hehehehe, it's like it's out of some psychedelic Sega game.
  13. Yeah, it sucks, it's true the other 9mms do the same damage but they have much larger magazines so it's easier to take someone out quickly. When Bohemia changed the ArmA damages, it was a good thing for ArmA - the only problem was that DayZ didn't react to the changes by lowering player health to suit the new values, so now we have pistols that seem ridiculously weak.

    Wind and ballistics system

Technically true but at the short ranges handguns are used at, it makes no discernible difference. Arrows will be affected a lot more than a bullet, at 10 mph wind an arrow could drift about two feet at 100 yards...
  15. This also reminds me of the videos I've seen of crazy Chechens hanging out car windows with AKs and firing in the air. As well as the videos of drive-bys...

    Rocket: Console version almost certain

As long as it doesn't dumb down or mess with the PC version, I couldn't care less.
  17. Most people don't understand why a game would be banned in the first place. Does Australia have especially strict laws? *poke* *poke*

    Skilled Vs Unskilled bandits

I was trying to make a point about killing on sight. I didn't try to talk to the guy, assess the situation or anything. I was purely looking for someone to kill. Boom, he lost everything he's worked for, much more than a coast spawn, and has no chance to defend himself. That's most certainly a "kill on sight", so what makes it okay in the eyes of most people? Or rather, what makes "certain" situations (like the "in the dark" kill the OP mentions) unacceptable? Some people consider it low to shoot unarmed players on the coast, some people consider it low to shoot players from long range, and some people (apparently like the OP) consider it low to shoot anyone unless they start shooting at you first. The OP was complaining about being shot at the NWAF - that's nowhere close to spawn camping. If you complain about being shot at the NWAF, you're gonna complain about being shot anywhere. It's widely known to be one of the most dangerous spots on the map. What makes something a "noob" kill or not is what the OP's post was about. What makes something commonly thought of as a "noob" kill is ultimately decided by the community of players... and I hope the community don't all think like the OP.
  19. No, it's banned - we have a running thread on the subject. Hehehehe

    Rifle/shotgun & pistol holsters.

For pistols, yes, but I'm not sure how a rifle 'holster' would be faster... slings for me. A "tactical"3-point frontal sling seems to be the fastest possible method. The rifle holster's I've seen seem to be intended to make carrying a rifle over long distances more comfortable. Sling:
  21. Yes, but a simple in-game timer won't solve the problem the weasels can close the program, or even shut their computer down to avoid death. It would have to be implemented for everyone at all times... which isn't really unfair - if you're not being shot at or chased by zombies, it should be relatively safe to log off, and if you are being shot at or chased by zombies, you shouldn't be logging off.
  22. Yikes, not for 15 minutes... I lost my connection today, luckily I had already run a ways off and hid in a tree, but if it had occurred in a less fortunate spot I would be toast. Remaining in the game for about a minute would probably curb most of the combat logging while not leaving legitimate players too vulnerable (find a safe place to log off).

    Wind and ballistics system

This is fantastic news! I've wanted wind for a long time! I saw Horde's thread and I'm glad he's attempting to make the wind drift values as close to real as possible! For those who weren't aware, he even went to the trouble of asking our Russian forum members to help find ballistic charts for certain Soviet rounds. :beans: I wasn't aware this was actually going to be implemented by the dev team. Very very very exciting news.   No, man, wind is so damn fun. Make a long range hit and you feel like a boss. Since it affects everyone it means it will be harder for people to snipe you as well. B)

    Vehicle Customisation

I like the first one, we're already seeing stuff like that in certain places, like this one pictured in Syria. Here's one from Libya: Here are a couple belonging to Mexican cartels:
