I'd actually like the Yukon  grizzly bears, Indians and prospectors. Very few zombies though.

Remove the ability to store rifles in backpacks
-Gews- replied to GBTP's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I agree. I think it's absurd that people can carry two rifles without any real drawbacks... on one server I have a DMR and an M14 AIM. Who would carry around two different types of M14s? That's ridiculous. The game should make you choose a gun and stick to it, having multiple primary weapons is something that belongs in arcade games, and the scenarios in which that would make some kind of sense are very few compared to those in which it makes no sense at all. -
If it's so rare there's only one in all the servers out there, what's the point of adding it in the first place?

Ehhh I'm not a fan of thermal weapons. I also don't think it's even remotely plausible you'd find a $5,000-14,000 dollar thermal scope in some poor, rural, ex-Soviet farmland... meh.
-
Me personally? Not an M14, definitely not an M1A, I suspect the civilian version would be less common if anything. Reasoning is that if they're going to put in one or two classic Western 7.62 battle rifles, it should be the FAL, followed by the G3. For me it's just not plausible to see M14s in the hands of Chernarussians.

Depends on the weapon in question... as long as it's not "silly" (ie Desert Eagle, AA-12 or S&W500) and as long as I don't think it's out of place (ie M1 Garand, SA80, Winchester 1887) I shouldn't have a problem with it. Also if there's a similar or identical local variant of something I'd prefer that, after all, why not? I don't necessarily think every single weapon needs to have come from the former Warsaw Pact countries.
-
Meh, we'll have to agree to disagree I guess... you like M14s, I like random milsurps. We shall see.

I think the standalone should be less about "let's make as much money as possible" and more about "let's make as good a game as possible", and that means refraining from throwing random weapons into the game and instead coming up with a sensible and realistic weapons list for the situation. Leave the sheer money-grubbing and senseless weapons lists to things like CoD: Ghosts. Have you checked that out? You'll get a dog named Riley, too.

Gews and the Russians? I'm not sure who'd want to buy a zombie survival game with a bunch of decadent capitalist guns stinking up the weapons list... I'm pretty sure no one wants to see finicky, outdated American weapons. К Родине!
-
'Murica. But seriously, no, I like the flavour of Chernarus, it's a very well thought-out map wth a lot of character. I like the weapons that could realistically be found there, too. I don't think the map should be based around the weapons. Other way round.

Russian Community Consolidated Suggestions - A huge presentation for Rocket.
-Gews- replied to DZR_Mikhail's topic in Suggestions
I like seeing the Russian point of view, several things I wouldn't have thought of... pitchfork as a melee weapon, beautiful. -
Yup, any number of shots to the feet. It should only make you bleed to death / in severe pain / shock, not instantly kill you. Force people to aim better too.
-
Not sure what to say to the first one... maybe if the AK is an old unmaintained POS with worn-out mags and crappy ammunition. As for the second if there isn't any Gabilondo Plus Ultra with the 5.5 inch extended barrel, I probably won't bother with the standalone either. Doesn't matter that it totally doesn't fit the scenario. I need this gun

How do I improve my situational awareness?
-Gews- replied to Blippy's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
These. -
I saw a suggestion , must have been on the bistudio forums, to speed up the ArmA vault so it is smoother and doesn't leave you at a disadvantage for stepping over a tiny obstacle. Sounded good to me. I see the standalone has a little bunny hop thing. I suppose that works too.

The M24 is used by a few other countries but the base Remington 700 or any of the countless variants are still a more likely choice... even considering those I'd rather have a European rifle. As for the M249... meh. I'd still rather have the Minimi, it's used by so many countries worldwide and in-game it would be virtually identical, so why not? Perhaps - but the British Empire wasn't lording it over Eastern Europe / the Balkans. I'm not terribly opposed to the Lee, though. Although: Germany was much closer and German troops were all up in the area! So wouldn't a Mauser be more commonly found? 20 million + Mausers produced... Yugoslavia also refurbished and produced millions of Mausers. I heard someone say a Mauser is confirmed for the standalone but don't quote me on that... Heh just looked it up: Also being worked on are a Gas Mask, Pilot Helmet, Mauser Rifle, pen/paper, mess tin, can opener [...] Yup, Mauser in. The "old" part was in reference to it and the DMR being largely replaced (or in the process of being replaced) by both the US Army and the USMC. If the weapon was supposedly of USMC provenance, then wouldn't it be an M39 EMR, which was in service as early as 2008, while the USMC entered Chernarus in 2009? Yup, true, it wouldn't be absurd to see an 870 over there... but you can only have so many shotguns. Therefore I would replace it with a more "local" type. They'll all be functionally identical in-game so there's no advantage to having the US-made one. This is true, but you don't see huge amounts of US weapons in Taliban or Iraqi hands... I doubt the US would stay and watch their entire forces be eaten by zombies (zombies are essentially unarmed people anyways, so I find all zombie apocalypse scenarios a bit unrealistic, whatever  ). Personally I hope the standalone avoids that - I kind of view it as an excuse, or a method to help suspend people's disbelief (in lieu of creating a well thought-out and authentic weapons list)...
-
And don't forget Yugoslavia, the Bosnians were even mounting scopes on them in Sarajevo. I bet it will be in the standalone...

"Superior engineered"... that's a loaded statement. Which are more reliable? Even the ammunition design is debatable... M885A1: Said to pierce 9.5mm of steel at 300m 62 grains at 905 m/s (M4A1) Ballistic coefficient 0.176 G1 7N10: Said to pierce 16mm of steel at 300m 56 grains at 900 m/s (AK-74M) Ballistic coefficient 0.179 G1 Not to mention things like the more tapered case (more reliable feeding and extraction?) although it is steel... Anyways, yes, take out (most of) the misfit Western rifles. If you think AKs, PKMs, Dragunovs, or Mosins are lame... well, you should work on that issue.
-
Depends on the gun in question... my personal opinion: Not okay weapons M24 - nope... should be obvious. M40A3 - nope... should be obvious. Lee-Enfield - nope... Mosin please. Winchester - nope... should be obvious. Revolver - nope, not in .45 ACP that is. DMR - nope, American. And old. M14 AIM - nope, American. And old. M240 - nope, replace with almost identical FN MAG M249 - nope, replace with almost identical FN Minimi Mk48 - nope, did SOCOM somehow lose a bunch of these? L85s - nope, were the Brits in Chernarus? Remington 870 - nope, they have their own pump-actions and semi-autos. M16s and such are fine by me, but Western weapons should be uncommon compared to Eastern stuff. That includes things like G36s. Less of the attachment guns too, I doubt any M4s you'd see would have quad rails, forward grips and the latest from EOTech. There are tons of cool guns from all over that part of Europe which would fit the situation much better. I've said before part of the problem is that many people want guns that they think are "cool"... look at all the posts making fun of the double-barrel and Makarov. Take that person off the computer and stick an actual Makarov in their hands and they'd probably look like this: 0____0 So why do these things feel so crappy in-game? Bullet impact effects, recoil effects, and weapon noises make a huge difference in how a gun is perceived on the screen, I hope the standalone really looks at those factors.
-
And you'd be right. Care to share? Nevertheless I don't want to see a Desert Eagle, it's a pistol with very little purpose, IMO. It's still cool and a great piece of engineering, but I don't feel it belongs in the game in any form. It's not exactly common either.
-
Everything. I'm sure people like this have dozens of 4-lb novelty pistols firing ammunition that costs $2 a pop...
-
I hope so... not sure what's "gay" about being shot... You should be able to take 7 rounds to the foot. It's your damn foot.
-
Nodeaglenodeaglenodeaglenodeagle. And I would say no 10mm either, those aren't common in Chernarus-like parts of the world where 99% of handguns seem to be 9x19 or 9x18. .38/357 could definitely work though, as well as .22. I would also like to see more chamberings, including 7.62x25 Tokarev, but they have to be stuff that would actually be seen over there.

No I haven't even played 1.7.7, I'm just looking at the code. I don't want to risk playing DayZ again until I buy some get working headphones, I'm basically deaf right now. I'll probably jump into a random server and test it... but the code says only the Mak and .45 are affected (as well as the .50 ammunition), so I trust that... That's fine, 1911 can stay at 4500, whatever, I just want the 9x19 bumped as well. Personally I'd put the 1911 somewhere in the 3,800-4,000 range. (also when considering damage values relative to other weapons, remember ArmA doesn't take tumbling/fragmentation into account - a 5.56 is considered as simply a .22 moving fast, no extra damage effects)
-
Note this isn't just for handguns, this also affects the MP5... the Bizon has 64 rounds of 2,000 damage per mag (128,000 total) while the MP5 only has 30 rounds of 889 damage per mag (26,670). Unrealistic (and unbalanced, for those that care about such things)... Personally I'm not sure why DayZ went back to the old ArmA values... If you're going to change the damage for certain ammunition, you may as well try to make a good job of it. There's no need to stick with the old, incorrect values. If I had to make a split second decision, I'd make the 9x19 do about 75-80% of the .45 damage, and the Makarov would do 50-60%.
