    Discussion on gun sights? Sounds good to me!

    I found the Kobra sight is a bit strange. The top dot doesn't really correspond to any range. At medium ranges aim a bit under the top dot. At long ranges aim with the tip of the chevron. In general you want to be aiming in between the two.

    Dirt Bike: I thought there was a dirt bike... Moped: Sure, why not? SEGWAYS: It'll be a cold day in hell... Cement Mixer: Sure. But to help build bases? Nah. Trucks: Sure. Van: Sure. Minibus: Sure. Forklift: Nah. Little to no purpose. Station wagon: Sure. Trams: Nah. Excavator: Sure. Bobcat: How about a full-size bulldozer? Dump truck: Sure. Fishing boat: don't we have this? Tug boat: Sure. Yacht: Sure. Kayak / Canoe: Sure. I'd never use them though. Too vulnerable. Cessna: Sure.

For sure, there was a case in New Jersey I believe where a drugged suspect took over 30 rounds of 9mm softpoint, including headshots, then a 12-gauge slug, and was still running when another slug put him down. Mmmmm it's okay, but it certainly could be improved. There are lots of mods out there that have done a good job with that - DayZ is a mod so there's no reason DayZ couldn't intervene, I suppose there are just more important things (for most people) to fix at the moment.

    Headshots should be instant death

    Are you serious? Head shots from a rifle should only knock people out? How about no? Have you seen photos of 5.56 head shots? There's not much head left to go around! In other news I shot a player in the cap with a Glock 17 yesterday. He died instantly. However I can definitely see 9mm headshots not killing players at longer ranges. This should be sorted in the 1.7.7 patch.
  11. That's what I was thinking. It goes against common movie "zombie" logic though. And let's face it - "decayed zeds" are flat-out undead zombies, not infected. This is a huge undead zombie trope. You can try to rationalize it, but in the end, decayed zeds are undead.
  12. Another option would be to change the "Lapua" to a .300 Winchester Magnum (damage 14, airFriction -0.00073). This caliber would only knock out, perhaps kill at very close ranges (under 50m). Here's the .300 Win Mag damage (calculated for 190gr Sierra Matchking at 2,950 ft/s) -000m: 10,888 -500m: 7,537 1000m: 5,219
  13. It would be a 1-shot kill out to 500-600 meters. After that it would wound or knock out. Personally I see no problem with that - getting shot with even a .30-caliber FMJ in real life and it has a large chance of being a "1 shot kill". The big "issue" with the .50 cals wasn't that they were 1-shot kills. It was that they were semi-automatic and could outperform assault rifles at close ranges, put 10 shots into a helicopter in 5 seconds, etc. Rage and bitching should be in the game...
  14. I would argue the DMR is more capable overall than any Lapua. Like I said, the Lapuas suck in close range. They're just bolt-actions. The DMR is good from 0 meters all the way out to 800, and many times you can't even see further. You can use it like an LMG to spam bullets at someone 800 meters away. I don't see the issue with adding in a Lapua considering all the hardware already in the game...
  15. It has the energy and velocity of a 45. It's not very powerful, it's designed for absolute silence, not power. Damage should definitely be under the 3000 mark. Right now it does over 18,000 damage (absurdly silly).

  17. Yeah but standard ArmA damage is also too lethal... get hit in the toe at close range and you die, even if it's just a 5.45mm. The ACE damage mod is a lot better but most things are lacking. For a start, I think the differences in damage are too much right now. For example a 7.62x39mm has 56% of the energy a 7.62 NATO has, so it does 56% of the damage a 7.62 NATO does... A 9x19mm has 11% of the energy a 7.62 NATO has, so it does 11% of the damage a 7.62 NATO does... Really? Humans are pretty thin-skinned animals, they're not big game. Most bullets of reasonable power can go through a human, so I doubt there would be such a massive difference in their effects when using FMJ ammunition... would the person shot be able to tell the difference? The biggest factor is placement - did the bullet hit any vital organs or not? Putting more and more energy in comes with diminishing returns... I' rather see all the damages closer to each other. Instead of 9x19mm = 889 7.62x39 = 4500 7.62 NATO = 8000 I'd rather see something like 9x19mm = 2660 7.62x39 = 6000 7.62 NATO = 8000 If you didn't notice, I was simply taking the square of the differences... I still feel following some kind of formula is important for consistency. Something that really bothers me is when people just "bullshit" damage values. "Oh, screw it, let's make a 45 as powerful as a 12-gauge because I feel like it should be for no particular reason" I'm curious to see what the new pistol damages will be in the 1.7.7 patch. If they've gone back to the old "Makarov = 2000, 9x19mm = 1389, 45 ACP = 4500" I will have the biggest fit of indignant rage...
  18. Like dog tags? I don't mind that. I can't say I'd use it much though. When the SA comes out I'm hoping for scalping, not holding my breath on that one though.
  19. I've seen people on here suggest that sniper damage start out at a very low level, and slowly increase in power as the round goes further and further...

  21. Bahahaha I have the same setup. It's annoying when every mouse movement you make lags 1/8th of a second behind... but all is good if I'm getting 20 fps or higher. I got 45 once when I looked at the ground!

    DayZ SP

    There's really no point since the zombies are so.... Oh, just read the last bit. Well, you could open the DayZ files and edit singleplayer in yourself, or you could download something sketchy and risk getting your CD key stolen. For me, DayZ SP is called ArmA 2 Combined Operations.
  25. Especially if that CZ550 is in 9.3x62mm... I would like them to incorporate some kind of chance into the damage. I'm really not a fan of the predictable hitpoints most all games seem to use... not totally random chance of course, highly influenced by caliber, velocity and location. A set amount of hitpoints and damage just makes for so many problems...
