You could come up with a backstory to justify a US Army M249, but why bother?!?!? The M249 is just a Minimi with a heat shield and a couple other minor changes...
-
Bahahahahaha
-
And excuse me for sharing my two cents...

I've always wondered why we don't see more T-90s and F-35s.

I would love to see specific graphics settings locked

Ehhh, no, I wouldn't call my 15 fps an unfair advantage, less foliage or not... I'll trade comps and settings anytime. -
Combining Ballistics, Attachments, Upkeep, Storage, Crafting, and Skills into a Coherent Combat System (CCS).

The SP-5 round was not designed to penetrate armour. ArmA specifically uses the SP-5. Nobody's saying it's ineffective. There's just no way it's anywhere near as powerful as it's currently portrayed as. -
Mmmm well it makes no sense to have the AS50 / other rifles doing that much damage. Someone typed "56" instead of "26" for the raw damage. It's more than 20mm cannon shells, not realistic. The M107 is right, the AS50 is wrong. Anyways either rifle can simply shoot the pilot.
-
Wait. Wait. Okay, that's surprising after your other thread... anyways just one comment: The AS50 did waaay too much damage for a .50 caliber rifle, the M107 did the correct amount. The HS50 has a slightly longer barrel so it would have probably have a 60-80 fps gain. Taking a 750-gr A-MAX at 2,900 ft/s and rounding up, that turns into a maximum of just under 44,000 blood damage. .50 caliber rifles would have a hard time destroying vehicles in one or two shots. That's what machine guns are for... still, the gun has twice the penetration of other calibers so it would go straight through a helicopter cockpit or pop a wheel.

Mmmm you sure seem to have one. I agree with the AS50 comment. Whatever. When 1.7.7 hits I'm gonna try to kill someone at 1,000 meters with a 7.62 and see how it goes. Screw moving closer. I shall bring offerings to Jehovah in the hope R4Z0R will see fit to add a .300 / .338 Magnum.
-
Okay... yes, one should ideally move to a range which balances effectiveness with safety. However... ....what is the problem you seem to see with adding a longer ranged bolt action rifle in a magnum cartridge?
-
 this is Kebab you're talking to. Meh, I've used it a lot in Wasteland, I'd say effective range is 700 max. Probably less in DayZ. A 4x zoom doesn't help with sniping. Anyways I don't see why one would oppose long-range rifles (other than .50s), provided they come with their own (significant) disadvantages, much as in real life.
-
Sniper duels. ;) Yes, we need this.
-
In 1.7.7 I'm gonna craft an ACOG for my Mak. Take the fight to those banditos long-range style.
-
Seeing as most servers had a maximum view distance that was under 1,100 meters I wouldn't say they were too crazy... If one was ever added back it would ave to be with two caveats: 1. Native weapon to the region (Zastava M93 comes to mind, was actually used somewhat frequently by Serbs) and 2. Weight system introduced, meaning it is slow to aim (lags behind mouse and shaky when standing), causes your character to run much slower, and requires you to eat and drink more (this would be for all weapons, not just 50s). Uuuuuh no ammunition crafting, at least not sniper ammunition... you realize the precision involved in very long range shooting? Powder weights measured to a seventy-thousandth of a pound... bullets CNC machined from solid brass... not happening in zombieland.

AGREED! The explosion stuff is so Hollywood. Crashes should result in broken vehicles, injury, and death - but not explosions.
-
Nah the other guy just went prone after the shot.
-
Hehehe, to be fair...
-
8000 is just the direct hit, ie, if the grenade didn't explode. I assume the person who put that couldn't come up with a way to describe explosive damage. Indirect hit is more complicated... I tested it a bit the other day. Direct = 36,000 ~5 m = 23,000 ~10m = 1,500 However that is not the whole story! You don't need to take away 12,000 blood to kill someone. You can headshot them with a Mak, for example. Grenades inflict damage on every body part - this means grenades will technically "headshot" you, frequently resulting in an instant kill, so comparing their damage to bullet-firing weapons is hard.

[Dayz Standalone] List of all Rumored/Possible features so far
-Gews- replied to skill89's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah, I hope not. :/ -
The problem is where you don't want to be hit in ArmA: And this is where you don't want to be hit in real life: The Shooting Range is super - I can kill a soldier in 1 or 2 chest hits at 800 meters. DayZ players aren't ArmA soldiers. They have bloated health... it would take 4 shots no matter what. Come on, that's a bit absurd...
-
The problem is players don't tend to stay still. They're finicky... I need a bigger rifle. Me no gusta headshots. By the way my M40 will see your ACOG's 570m and raise you 640m. B) Her name is Betsy
