Without .50 snipers the chopper will not fear anyone!!
-Gews- replied to patriotabr's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Nah, if any, the Mi is the only heli that actually belongs... Hueys? Is this Battlefield:Vietnam? -
I assume this means the engine for the entire standalone, not just helis...

Want choppers to truly fear people? Then we need one of the these: -
Would you want a PvE server or a PvP server?
-Gews- replied to [email protected]'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Many people here tend to hate PvE servers. It's seen as the DayZ antichrist. -
True, but those models are produced for the US market where you need a long barrel to avoid National Firearms Act regulations on short-barreled rifles. I think even the regular, fully-automatic UZI would be more common in a place like Chernarus compared to models that have been produced specifically for the North American market.

Don't totally agree with the mini Uzi, would rather see full-size Uzi or Croatian ERO clone. Obrez is okay. The Obrez would not have anywhere near the power of a full-sized rifle, the barrel is too short for the powder to burn, therefore you don't get the full power (you also get massive muzzle flash since the rest of the powder burns outside of the barrel). Someone chronographed their Obrez and was getting 1,350 ft/s. That would translate to either 2,000 damage or 3,800 damage (BIS damage formula has inconsistencies) I was trying to make an Obrez... I don't agree with your damage evaluation, the Skorpion does less damage than the other handguns, it fires a smaller, less powerful round. Skorpion = 62gr, 1,050 ft/s = 152 ft-lbs energy (0.311 caliber) vs Makarov = 95 gr, 1,050 ft/s = 233 ft-lbs energy (0.365 caliber) Glock, M9 = 115gr, 1,300 ft/s = 432 ft-lbs energy (0.355 caliber) 1911, Revolver = 230gr, 850 ft/s = 370 ft-lbs energy (0.452 caliber) Also I don't think Uzis and vz.61s are really "civilian" weapons.

I wish the helis could be modeled with true flight sim fidelity... it would be sweet. Although when I play flight sims I usually end up staring at a bunch of confusing gauges as I head towards the ground.

A somewhat doable way to bring clothes into the mod
-Gews- replied to J0hnm13's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
He wants clothes to be handled like backpacks. Pick them up and they pop onto you and magically conform to your exact movements. Right now I'm "pretty sure" clothing is handled by killing/deleting your current player and replacing him with an identical player wearing the new clothes... -
Fair enough... I like scoped rifles, helis I can deal with (hope they have native helicopters for SA, not recycled Hueys). Still, there should be more things to cause that kind of fear than just [a] helis and snipers. I guess it's hard to get that kind of tension from a game or sim - although DayZ already does a far, far better job than most games at actually getting my adrenaline up.

Meow.

No mounted guns on helis sounds okay. Honestly if we're talking about anti-chopper weaponry in that part of the world, I think seeing a .50-cal mounted on the back of a pickup would be more effective and more REALISTIC. I like hunting guns. It's a shame there's only one scoped hunting rifle in DayZ given all the deer stands...
-
Sure, no "snipers". Because your average hunting firearm doesn't look anything like these... Notice a common trend? How about no assault rifles? They're only good for no skill bullet spamming, totally OP!
-
A fair amount of hunting scopes these days are actually mil dot or MOA scopes... not that it's usually necessary, but still... Stalking with only a tin can = way more fun and dangerous than noob stalking.

Meh, at 600 meters the 5.56 weapons are doing under 1,500 damage... not very good performance at all. No one chooses that cartridge for long range. A 7mm Rem Mag would do over 5,000 at that distance, a .300 Win Mag would be doing about 7,000 at that range, a .338 Lapua (fixed) would do over 10,000. Massive difference... and wouldn't we see more of these powerful scoped hunting rifles compared to scoped assault rifles firing peashooter intermediate rounds? Think about how many hunting rifles we have now... 3. How many assault rifles? Yeah, yeesh...

Like I said your brain will help automatically center the front sight. Also the Lee has two sights (not in-game). The "battle sight" And a more precise sight that goes all the way out to 1,300 yards
-
Ideally there would be more challenge to aiming, but unfortunately I don't think it's possible to implement with the current design. Aperture sights can be used out to 1,000 yards or more... your brain tends to automatically center it. It also depends on the size of the aperture.
-
This is probably the biggest problem, unfortunately. Also that's why I prefer aperture sights.

What if there's no sidechat? Anyways we have funtrillion threads on snipers already. Some stuff is taken out because it doesn't belong... you wouldn't have AS50s in a WWII game, it doesn't fit, just like it doesn't fit in a former Soviet republic zombie simulator thingy. At least I hope that's the reasoning behind the removal...
-
Admin "took care of it"? Do you mean admin abuse?
-
Making sniping more realistic is an improvement... it's already been worked on and mentioned as a possible future update by R4Z0R. I don't know why you'd oppose improving something. If people all had the "realism doesn't matter" attitude we'd have hitscan instead of bullet drop... in fact, if realism didn't matter to people, we wouldn't have ArmA at all, and therefore no DayZ either. Some of your other points were fair enough.

OP? An M14 or AKM is ridiculously "OP" compared to an L115 or a CZ550 at closer ranges. 20 times the rate of fire and a far bigger field of view? OP!
-
L115 given they implement the very minor configuration changes I suggested in my thread... took less than 15 minutes for me to reconfigure it, so there's no reason the devs couldn't fix the errors (especially since they are giving pistols more damage - very similar fix here!). The L115 isn't "OP" since it can't spam bullets at close range, plus many European nations are using .338s (although maybe not Accuracy Internationals).

By the way, I noticed another problem with the Lapua (and AS50). The drag coefficient is too low. The code says: airFriction = -0.0005 That seems like a suspiciously round number (other bullets have numbers such as -0.0009324 or -0.001425) and it is. It should be about -0.00068 to correspond better with real-life data. Edit: it seems like whoever coded the weapon took the lazy route with respect to ammunition... same with the AS50... jeez, not much effort put in when I start noticing errors after 30 seconds of looking at it... ticks me off.

Combining Ballistics, Attachments, Upkeep, Storage, Crafting, and Skills into a Coherent Combat System (CCS).
-Gews- replied to SpudmanWP's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yes, APHE = HEAP. 12.7x108 and 12.7x99 are very similar in terms of power. Anyways if I'm honest I think the reason the AS50 does that much more was purely to play to people's Hollywood expectations. There's no logical explanation. Yes... it does pack a punch, like I said weights, velocities and energies are similar to a .45 ACP. No one would say a .45 doesn't pack a punch. The 9x39 is the best they could do while staying subsonic, however it's not nearly as powerful as full-sized rifle rounds. The damage value is too high as is, but then add to that the fact it appears to be bugged due to a wrong velocity value (does twice as much damage as originally intended, over 18000)... -

It's not explosive ammo, it has no explosive damage value like other explosive ammo. It was a bad decision by someone and needs changing. Here's the damage 12.7x108mm APHE does: 127x108_APHE hit = 24; indirectHit = 5; If the round was supposed to be explosive it would do similar to that (and in ArmA 2, 12.7x108 is portrayed as slightly more powerful than 12.7x99).
