    Can it be changed? Yes. Should it be changed? Yes. There should be no forcing the issue though. No silly post-killing PTSD or other punishments. There has to be some other kind of incentive to team up. Right now there's no incentive. What does the incentive have to be? I don't know, but I do know it has to be something equally (or more) fun than shooting every stranger one sees before anything will change... so put your thinking caps on...

    And legs/arms. However specific damage for the arms is not exactly good... shoot someone in the arm and it could easily go through their chest and all the good stuff inside, but since bullets don't seem to penetrate bodies in ArmA2 that can't happen.
  7. Oh, that reminds me, with all the artificial lights gone perhaps stars could be more visible... not the Chernarus would have had much light pollution anyways. Food for thought...
  8. It just so happens most people don't want to play in near total darkness... When most people don't like something, servers with "something" become less populated... In turn most people don't like playing on unpopulated servers... etc. Unfortunate because the night can be very fun.

    I think the immediate effects should be as close to real life as possible... however, if you manage to survive, the healing process should be sped up / forgiving / etc. But not quite as sped up as cooked meat spamming behind a wall while still under fire...

  12. I would agree with removing zeroing for some weapons with iron sights. Why? The way it is right now, think it's too easy to change the range. "Taptaptap" now you're SPOT ON at 600 meters - with an AKM. Really? No fiddling with the rear sight, just "taptaptap" instantaneously. I think that's worse than just leaving it out. Look at the muzzle velocity and ballistic coefficients of 7.62x39 vs 5.56x45. The 5.56 should shoot much flatter (less bullet drop), this should be an advantage to 5.45 and 5.56 weapons - but it's not, because the AKM has "zeroing" for some reason so you barely even need to consider the bullet drop compared to the fixed-zero M4s and M16s in the game.

  14. And the different damages and bullets... as well as the 320 m/s muzzle velocities... In any case I read it as "SD weapons can only use SD magazines, normal weapons can only use normal magazines". We shall see.
  15. That update is even worse that before, IMO... does the firing pin of an unsuppressed weapon magically know that it's not supposed to strike the primer of an "SD" round? :lol:
  16. The M136 only has AT missiles, they only really do damage on a direct hit. Here is why: indirectHit = 11; indirectHitRange = 1.1; So a maximum 4.4 meter blast radius and even then it only does 11 damage. What they should do is only have the RPG-7V and spawn OG7 ammunition... indirectHit = 20; indirectHitRange = 12; 3 times the damage and 10 times the range.
  17. I must admit a lot of the third-person animations out there do look kind of strange to me... soldiers in ArmA 3 remind me of insects or something. :lol:

    Yes, but a person IRL can see objects much farther away than in the game. If I couldn't "zoom in" I wouldn't be able to even see people over 200-300m, never mind taking a shot at them.

    Fun times

    Been playing on Balota Buddies AU46 "Weapons+" for a while now since it always seems to have dozens of players online, most fully geared up due to the extra barracks and "remove clothes" option... very fun PvP server with lots of action at all times. Anyways I played less than an hour tonight and got a lot of action compared to usual... Started out with an M16 ACOG (4 mags) and a CZ (5 rounds), new spawn (collected the weapons from my former body). After scouting around I made my way up Dobryy in a large circle and surveyed Elektro... saw a ghillie with a DMR in the firestation and killed him with a shot from the CZ at 600 meters. Then per usual I ran away immediately and came back some time later, saw a ghillie with an M24 surveying the town accompanied by two survivors, killed him from above with the M16 as well as a survivor who was crawling towards his body, presumably to get his M24 (his body was out of sight). By the time I flanked around the other survivor had gone and the guns had been taken, but someone far away fired a full magazine at me with a DMR... no hits. After going around in another big circle to a different location (pattern here) I spotted an unarmed survivor far away running towards a treed area with lots of bushes. I took out the CZ to watch him and saw he was heading directly for a body... moments later he picked up a DMR and started scouting around. He was behind some bushes so I didn't want to take the shot, and I wasn't sure how far away he was due to the CZ reticle. Estimated 500-600 and zeroed the CZ at 500 meters. After he scoped out his surroundings he got up and started running, I tracked his movement, fired once and hit him in the head. Then I looked around, quickly ran down and got his DMR (at this point my CZ only had three rounds, needed to change). As I picked up the DMR I heard lots of shots from various rifles and a 7.62mm machine gun, so I started weaving... a few seconds later I realized they weren't aimed at me. Reading side chat and listening to the shots II assumed it was probably a squad of 2-3 players, so I went back up and around the mountain in a huge circle... As I was preparing to scope out Elektro I heard machine gun fire fairly close by and saw two ghillies lying behind trees, facing the town. One was reloading an M240, the other was looking around with his M24. I watched them for a short while but then they got up, so I shot the M240 gunner as the guy with the M24 ran away. I changed positions and saw him running through some bushes so I fired, hit him and when he was down shot him again. Then I put another bullet in the guy with the M240. Running down the hill a guy with a CZ550 popped out from behind a tree and fired at me point blank. I ran right up to and around him before he could fire another shot and put several rounds in him. Then I took a couple supplies and hid all three bodies. At this point I figured that was it and I started moving away. Fortunately I usually freelook when I'm running and I saw yet another guy step out from behind some trees about 100 meters to my left. He was pointing some kind of assault rifle at me so I quickly spun around and shot him unconscious before he could do anything nasty. Ran up, looked at him and shot him in the face. Hide body. Whole squad gone, happy. :ph34r: A far more successful play session than most of mine. :unsure: Anyways if you like action this is quite a fun server, it's easy to rack up many kills in a short amount of time, yet you can hide in the woods and be a hermit if you like, too. Barracks in Elektro will do that...
  20. True, however most sources claim 320 m/s as the Bizon's muzzle velocity, which is subsonic. As well Google says "the Bizon-2-03 model (Bizon-2B) is equipped with an integral suppressor — its barrel is fitted with an expansion chamber. Expanding powder gases escape into the expansion chamber through the holes in the rifling groove bottom to reduce the muzzle velocity to a subsonic level".

Yay no more Miss Manners. [FIXED] - Death body doesn't disappear anymore if the player disconnected too fast. Yay no more death logging. [uPDATED] - Replaced combat roll with Shacktac Bunny Hop. Yay no more of that Cirque de Soleil bullshit. :lol: [NEW] - 1 new food item (Twinkie - a rare find only at the supermarket). Serving those Zombieland teas. [NEW] - Crafted Traps. (Punji Trap, Tripwire (Cans), Tripwire (Decoy), Tripwire (Flare), Tripwire (Smoke), Tripwire (Grenade), Bear Trap (Grenade), Bear Trap (Flare), Bear Trap (Smoke)) Sounds good. [NEW] - Vehicle - UH1H_DZ2 with Desert Skin. Meh, no point - and desert camouflage in Chernarus? No likey. [NEW] - Crafted Weapons. (Nailed Bat, Barbed Wire Bat, Sledge Bat, Batchete, Chloroform Rag, Makeshift Machete, Makeshift Sledgehammer) Frowning at the names of some of these weapons as certain seem like items of... err... questionable effectiveness... that a bored teenager might make in the backyard. Chloroform rag? That will be a shoot on sight for anyone carrying one. [uPDATED] - Removed non SD mags from SD weapons, Removed SD mags from non SD weapons. Could have been done in a better fashion [REMOVED] - Removed ArmA 2 squad command menu (0-9 or F1-F12) Yay.

    Knocking people out?

    Maybe? I don't want to see something like out of an old TV show where the hero punches or karate chops someone and they're instantly knocked out, no harm done... That may work in The Avengers or The Rockford Files, but it's not how it happens in real life. DayZ should mimic real life.
  25. Another vote for Van Isle? Yay. I will mention it takes 95 minutes via ferry to the mainland... would be a long journey for survivors.
