    Hiding.

Not a bad idea according to Steven Spielberg. With a bull whip and a fedora you can survive a nuclear blast in one.

    Non-lethal weapons?

Perhaps... although I haven't met nor do I know of any farmers, ranchers, or even horse vets who own or need a tranquilizer gun, and I'm sure they'd be more likely to spend money on that stuff here rather than in Chernarus. As well there aren't any large ranches in Chernarus, just a couple random cows. Also I'm not aware of anyone using a tranquilizer gun to subdue a human in any situation and I doubt the drugs would even be suitable for the purpose. These items would have gameplay value but they are also very tough to adequately explain. Some of these non-lethal weapons will probably be added since most people don't really care if Tazers or what-have-you are somewhat out of place or not. It's a game, it's not some simulator where realism freaks argue about the fire extinguisher system or about the maximum rate of descent a helicopter can sustain before entering a vortex ring state...
  3. They should all just use normal ammunition perhaps with some optional 9x19mm subsonic. Suppressed weapons would be a lot more useful. Only problem as someone mentioned above, zombies apparently react to the type of bullet spawned when firing, not the weapon fired or the sound played etc.

It would be cool to have them in but I don't think they should have any positive or negative effects. At all.

    Non-lethal weapons?

How so? "Not authentic" then. Anything in the game should be [a] plausible correctly portrayed. I don't see a problem with this.

    throwing weapons

Bricks, rocks, hammers, chunks of random heavy junk, yes. Axes, maybe, but they should have a way of calculating the spin and seeing if it hits with the cutting edge or just the handle. Knives, no, most people can't throw them and even then most of them can't be thrown effectively at all, too light. With a knife you'd be better just sprinting the 15-20 feet you could actually throw it.

    Non-lethal weapons?

There are problems I see with "non-lethal" weapons. Here are some potential issues: -The devs could make melee weapons have an unrealistically high chance of knocking people out. You can't magically knock someone out with a baseball bat. Unrealistic implementation. Same with fists and other weapons. Manage to hit someone in the head with a bat and it could turn out to be as lethal as a gun... -Tazers: Most Eastern European police don't use tazers. IMO, Chernarussian police would not use tazers. As well I just know tazers wouldn't be realistically modelled. Tazers don't knock people out, they immobilize them for short periods. They can fail if the target is wearing heavy clothing, etc. And people wouldn't be carrying a tazer as a primary/secondary weapon when they could carry a Makarov - that's something only people in a video game would do. -Bean bag projectiles for shotguns: another thing which only people in a video game would do. Their life isn't on the line. First off there are crazy pseudo-zombies everywhere and bean bags will work greeeat for those. Why would someone load a shotgun with beanbag projectiles when they could load it with buckshot or slugs? They know they are going to be facing people with assault rifles and other goodies, and they choose BEAN BAGS?. It doesn't make sense. And I don't think bean bags would be implemented realistically either. They'd probably instantly knock people out with body shots or other such gamey nonsense. Nobody would be firing inaccurate and ineffective bean bags at people armed with guns, and for that matter why would they fire them at unarmed people? -Tranquilizer guns: this is the only one I see as somewhat acceptable given a proper explanation for their existence. And not a vet clinic. What kind of animals are they tranquilizing in Chernarus? Are they really concerned about wild boars and rabbits? No. Animal hospital / vet clinic doesn't explain the existence of something like this, scratch that... Also these guns have a very short effective rang. I mean a very short range... think 10, 20, 50 yards! No 300 meter shots. And to top it off it could very easily be lethal with the wrong dose. I am against giving players the tools to create any "unrealistic" behavior, so for me to support any non-lethal weapons they have to be both plausible and realistically portrayed.
  8. That's silly. That needs to be fixed in the next update.

    DayZ+ACE, Opinions?

In that case go for it.

    DayZ+ACE, Opinions?

DayZ + ACE is something I've seen lot of people say they'd like, but I don't know how popular it would be in reality. The principle is sound. Note you would have to get permission from the team responsible for ACE. That might prove to be a problem.

Melee Weapons Ideas (Megathread) Post your ideas

I strongly suspect the devs would simply leave out most (or all) of the negative characteristics, and anyways it's a game, so people don't care if their character is inconvenienced and would take them anyways just for giggles. Then I would see a bunch of people with chainsaws and seeing people walking around with chainsaws would seem silly to me since I wouldn't see that happening in real life in any situation whatsoever... thus breaking the feeling of immersion I would have had previous to seeing a chainsaw-carrying person, therefore best to leave them out in favor of something else. Hatchets or axes are all a mobile survivor would really need. ^That's my thought process

Even in Texas Chainsaw Massacre it was pretty terrible.

Melee Weapons Ideas (Megathread) Post your ideas

Chainsaw = heavy. People wouldn't carry chainsaws around as they trek through Chernarus. Also they would have to start up the chainsaw before even being able to cut anyone. Not a realistic or useful weapon (it's a tool) therefore I don't want to see one.

    Humanity loss - Self Defence

Would zeds be Indies or OPFOR?
  16. I wrote an article on there when I was 14... it was embarrassing, two sentences long and with spelling mistakes.
  17. It is possible, for what it's worth ArmA 3 didn't do it properly either. Usually in ArmA if there's any animation at all the hands don't work the bolts.

    1.8 Makes Melee Nearly Pointless

I was just thinking, if they wanted melee to be more effective, maybe they could make the melee weapons simulation = shotSpread or make them like KozliceShell. In other words perhaps melee weapons could fire a short burst, increasing chances of hitting the head. Because, come on, even if you're walking it's pretty hard to miss something two feet in front of you with a machete.

    AS50/M107??

No, they belong in DayZ about as much as Lamborghini Aventadors or MiG-29s. They don't fit the setting of the game. The both shoot .50 BMG so that doesn't make sense.

    Non-lethal weapons?

    I wouldn't recommend trying that...

    Non-lethal weapons?

Personally I don't want to see non-lethal weapons. I checked, and Tazers are not common in the Czech Republic, it's not America. 50 Tazers in the whole country was the number I found. That's one official Tazer for every 200000 people. In Chernarus, which is way poorer and smaller? I doubt there would even be a single one in any police unit. It seems like a place where police would be more likely to carry Makarovs and submachine guns. There have been suggestions for tranquilizer guns found in vet clinics. What kind of vets y'all go to? Poison arrows seems unrealistic. A poison arrow wouldn't harmlessly stick in someone, it's an arrow, not a hypodermic needle. It would act like an arrow. Beanbag guns are nonlethal when used properly, sure, but they don't magically knock people out. They hit them with a beanbag. It hurts. Do they somehow fall to the ground unconscious? Not unless it hits them in the head and makes them unconscious, and in that case they could be seriously injured. In any case, who's going to shoot beanbags at someone armed with a Kalashnikov? Darwin award inbound... I don't want to see anything that's not plausible. My suggestion was some kind of small military / international research facility with a couple tranquilizer guns that were used to capture and study the infected. I don't see many other ways to explain a nonlethal projectile weapon. I don't want to see many instant knockout weapons. Instant knockout is just as unrealistic as the old AS50 toe-shot kills.

    Where?

Tried to jump back into DayZ...

Yeah... you're saying in "without rule of law" situation you'd shoot down anyone you saw without a second thought? I'm glad I'm not your neighbour... Personally I will shoot at many people when the standalone comes, it's fun. However there is clearly an issue with the mod at the moment because there's nothing else to do.

Tried to jump back into DayZ...

No one's saying bandits should be punished or heroes should be rewarded <_< It's just that something is clearly wrong if the main point of the game is shooting others. It's a survival simulator, in real life people don't go randomly shoot each other after a disaster. Some element is clearly missing from the simulation. There's nothing to really do except shoot people or team up and shoot people or help people shoot people who are trying to shoot people.
