Doesn't even fit the setting at all. I don't understand why people can't do with a .338 Lapua or a .300 Win Mag or something more practical and fitting, they'd all be one-shot kills so why stick a Barrett in the game? I like plenty of guns but I don't want them in the game because I know they don't make any sense. No.

^Here's another example of the poor accuracy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIYmjwpvRNc#t=2m32s I don't like this Youtuber but that's beside the point. Both, both by the same amount as well.

The "carebears" are the elitists. The "carebears" are the ones supporting servers that kick or ban anyone who doesn't have the same playstyle.

Whoa, I was so focused on other things I didn't even realize the "UK assault vest" makes little sense. One of the things that bothered me in the mod was how you had BAF camouflage clothing, when instead they could have chosen one of the dozens of types of CDF, guerilla, insurgent or Russian camo clothing options.

That's a sign... it raises some questions for me: "11101 Adwood Drive Cincinnati, OH 45240 Phone: 513-674-2580" It's some small Cincinnati company's product... it's not issued by any military or police force... so how and why would these uppers be found in Chernarus, 4500 miles away?

Lots of people who own AR-15s... one of the most popular rifles is bound to be used for hunting. You'd be surprised at what some kids are capable of, there are a lot of them out there:

Cool gun which doesn't fit the setting.

Communication is only important if you intend to team up with people, or to hold them up and rob them. I'm not about to start talking to myself so I don't need any more communication than "middle finger". I only ever used a mic once and I've had DayZ for over a year. Meh, didn't do anything for me. It's not my job to make the game fun for others.
-
That is dispersion for a perfectly aimed shot. In the game players aren't going to be perfect shots, especially in combat. ARMA 2 may have been slightly too precise, but IMO DayZ has gone way too far in the other direction.

Then why is absolutely everything wrong about them? They got the magazine capacities right I suppose. See this post of mine:

In the case of bipods though, you are correct, everything is too accurate with bipods.

Lower you say Hmmmm

Hands / Punching being the best weapon in the game WTF?
-Gews- replied to screwloose45's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
It doesn't just knock you down, it renders you unconscious, big difference. The other day a guy attacked me with an axe on top of the school, I just punched him, he was instantly unconscious, his body slid off the roof and he fell to his death 4 stories below. Another guy ran up and I knocked him out too. Later I was knocked out instantly by some guy in a motorcycle helmet. Fists OP -
I know some of the values for the SKS are certainly placeholders, so perhaps magazines and ammunition will turn out to be as well. That being said, it is kinda concerning that it's labeled as "7.62mm rounds" and the description reads "high powered cartridge used in various firearms of Soviet origin". With the generic name and the generic description, it's logical to be prepared for generic types of ammunition. If they do introduce 7.62x39, I hope they don't just copy-paste the stats from ARMA 2. They weren't great in that game either. Speaking of stats, I was looking at ACE the other day for my accuracy thread, and I noticed the ACE team came up with effectively the same value as I did for the 7.62x39 ballistics - the two only differed by 0.00004.

SKS rifle will be a mix of DMR and M14 aim ?
-Gews- replied to kataro's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Ehh, not really, it's commonly referred to as the USMC DMR so I don't understand the issue. I see what he's describing with the standalone's "Magnum", or with ARMA's "PDW", but I don't see it with the DMR. -

It was a DMR... Rifle, 7.62 mm, M14, DMR... -
I know what a compensator does. I also know what it doesn't do, which is turn an inaccurate 82-year old surplus rifle into a precision weapon system. No, I do not watch that show. You may have missed the part where I said dispersion was for a "single, PERFECTLY AIMED" shot. Perfectly aimed being the operative phrase. Show me a player who can actually be that accurate shot after shot without a high-magnification scope... there aren't any. Even if guns had 0 dispersion, players would still miss all the time - guns should have reasonable dispersion, and that means the M4 should not be any less accurate than the Mosin. False analogy; morphine fixes a broken leg because a broken leg takes months of recovery and no one would tolerate that in a game. Butt stocks having little or no effect on accuracy shouldn't bother anyone. That would not negatively affect their gameplay in any way. There is no "problem" to fix there. There are other advantages to different items, such as the ability to add attachments to rails, weight differences, etc. Going back to my car example, if this was a racing game, would bucket seats and a body kit increase the top speed? No, because that has little to do with top speed. About "authenticity": currently absolutely nothing is correct with weapons. Even simple-to-find stats like muzzle velocity are completely wrong. Scopes don't even magnify properly. Even bullet damages don't make sense. With the new attachments and their unrealistic effects, the weapons are closer to Battlefield than to ARMA. And I refuse to accept that Battlefield's portrayal weapons are more "authentic" than ARMA's. tl;dr: this isn't authentic and it's not intended to be, it is balanced gameplay. Opinions may vary; I think that's a very bad thing to have in a game like this one. Alpha does not matter; these values are hard to get wrong, which suggests they are "working as intended". I don't like the intention. Equipment doesn't have to be unrealistic to be desirable. An M4 should be something great, Magpul or not. It shouldn't spread like a shotgun. A compensator should reduce your recoil, not change your accuracy. A bipod should stabilize the weapon, not make it more accurate. Etc. All those attachments and weapons would still be desirable and have different effects, only it would make sense.

Not cool man

The SVT-40 is already confirmed... in the form of an SKS that shoots the Mosin's 7.62x54R ammunition. Couldn't resist  hopefully it will be changed before it's introduced.

It's a hex receiver, Tula armory, 1932. The bolt was initially straight, but the DayZ team bent it down once they realized this would interfere with the scopes. It is not a proper "sniper" bolt, as you can see, the bolt handle should be way longer than the one currently in-game. Here is what the modeler Harry had to say about it: "I modeled the bolt straight They bent it internally And they bent it wrong"

300m Range on the mosin? Page up not going past 300.
-Gews- replied to infestedchris's topic in General Discussion
On the scope itself it clearly shows adjustment from 100-1300 meters. However as mentioned, for whatever reason, it has been restricted to a mere 50-300 meters. -
for dayz mod player , what do you love or hate about the SA ?
-Gews- replied to anis_tar's topic in New Player Discussion
Everything seems much better in the standalone. Except for anything and everything related to firearms and shooting. -
Nnnnnnnnno But there will be, and it will do that.
-
The Mosin compensator is the other really annoying one... It doesn't even reduce recoil at all, instead it does exactly the same thing as the bipod - gives the gun pinpoint accuracy. And it does it in all stances. I don't even understand how someone could give it those properties without alarm bells going off in their heads, "beep-beep-beep-beep, this doesn't make any sense!"
-
Agreed. I also think it's way too accurate with the bipod deployed.
