    Scope improvements

Correct: http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=1571 However it decreases all zooms, so the scopes will still only be 1.39x or 1.56x compared to regular eyesight.

    Scope improvements

Perhaps... But then again, ArmA 3 has the same type of three-dimensional rifle scopes, and they have the correct magnification. It could be an oversight, it could be for the reason you state, or it could be a way to balance sniping... whatever it is, I'm not a fan, hopefully it will be corrected soon.

It's a matter of erasing the current number and typing in the new one. :P

    Scope improvements

Hm, actually, I realized I should be comparing the scopes to the player's regular zoomed eyesight. So they actually have the following magnifications: PU scope = 1.39x ACOG = 1.56x Red dots = 1x Iron sights = 0.7x So basically, red dots are CORRECT, iron sights need to match player's regular eyesight, and the magnified scopes both need 60% greater magnification.
  5. Yeah, okay then. Who needs a gun?

    Sniper Rifles

I wish it was the actual 3.5x magnification though. Compared to the naked eye, it only zooms a bit less than 1.4x right now!

    Sniper Rifles

It can go over 6.5 km
  8. -Gews-

The amount of crap you can carry is insane.

Agreed. One of these should be just about the LAST thing you want on your back over hill and dale:

    Weapon-Damage way too high!

The .FNX-45 is actually more than 25% stronger than the M4, btw

    Sniper Rifles

Lee-Enfield and Mosin were top of the line MILITARY rifles back when they were introduced. They issued scoped Mosins and Lee-Enfields to SNIPERS. Sniper rifle.

    Sniper Rifles

Eh, normal magnification in standalone is 1/2 what normal magnification in the mod. Can't hit it if you can't even see it.

    Sniper Rifles

Depends on the ammo Figure on > 10% remaining energy at 2300, > 5% at 3000 At 2300 would still be going as fast as a handgun bullet and it weighs 5-6x as much as 9mm
  13. Weapon customization with aftermarket parts isn't something common, I'm not talking about PMAGs, I'm talking about the combined effect of all the attachments. Nobody's going to use a 10 round magazine either. Only purpose for including those is adding options for gameplay, it's just another level of loot which otherwise wouldn't exist. Civilians are not a source of 5.56 magazines in-game and they wouldn't be IRL either. If they went to the actual area the Chernarus map is based upon and somehow listed every single gun, you wouldn't be likely to find tricked out AR-15s although no doubt, there would be people who own them in the country. I disagree that it doesn't matter. That's subjective. It may not matter to you, but it matters to other people. The developers can't dictate what is plausible. They can put stuff in the game and create a backstory for that stuff, but that doesn't make it plausible. Chernarus is clearly based on a mix of countries... the terrain is part of the Czech Republic, but the signs are Cyrillic, the armed forces and their homegrown adversaries use EXCLUSIVELY Soviet equipment, etc. My personal opinion: I don't care whether it's Russian or not. The only thing that matters to me is whether I find it believable. I want a "realistic" range of weapons, if NATO has been involved then I want believable amounts and types of NATO weapons. Currently I'm not seeing that. Anyways, if we were being "plausible", even considering the backstory, why do I find more 10 round magazines than 30 round magazines? There's no logical explanation for this. It's clearly a gameplay and balancing choice. "People already came and took all the 30 rounders", no... it's because gameplay.

    Sniper Rifles

Huh? He said the M107 was incapable of killing people at 1200m. That's not true, the weapon is more than capable of that and long-range civilian shooters out West are proving that every single day. It's not as accurate as many other guns - but 1200m? Definitely.
  15. -Gews-

    Sniper Rifles

We should talk about weight when even the magazines weigh over 4 lbs each. "The .50 cal is a great sniper tool when conducting mounted operations or even aerial platform shooting but can be a bit cumbersome for dismounted operations due to its size and weight... I’m certainly not saying the 50 cal can’t be taken on a dismounted patrol because it can, but it must be employed with a team much like a crew served weapon, not very practical." Uh... Sgt. Brian Kremer--Mar. 2004-----------2,300 m Nicholas Ranstad---Jan. 2008-----------2,092 m Steve Reichert-----Apr. 2004-----------1,614 m

    Sniper Rifles

Because it's a retarded weapon choice. I'd rather have vehicle-mounted Dushkas and RPG-7s because at least they are believable. If you'd said M107 I might not have used the word "retarded", but AS50 is beyond the pale. Besides, why do you need it? Even something like a .338 Lapua I could probably get behind, but running around the countryside with .50 cals is just dumb. It's not the one-hit kill capability or the range that's the problem, it's the fact they're too heavy, too big and don't make any sense.
  17. I still don't get it. The backstory allows for some NATO weapons. The backstory doesn't allow for 10 and 20 round magazines or Magpul forends, those items are only in because they add gameplay value and look cool. Plausible would mean mostly stock weapons with standard magazines and there wouldn't be much of them. Ignore the whole video game thing: if they were a team of analysts working to create a 100% "authentic" scenario based on the current backstory we would not have most of this stuff. DayZ isn't fussy about weapons, their realism or their appropriateness, and DayZ never has been fussy about that, because 95% of DayZ players do. not. care. They're here to play a zombie survival game, not for rivet counting, and if a gun is cool and isn't some overpowered thermal sniper it's all good. This hasn't much changed for the standalone. And likewise, every time someone tries to justify them, I'm going to have to disagree. I never said these items were a problem - they aren't harming people's gameplay. I haven't called for their removal. However when a topic comes up and the subject is whether the unusual amount of tricked out M4 carbines with aftermarket parts is "realistic" or "authentic", I'm going to make my opinion clear...

    m4 is really inaccurate.

I find it funny how the Mosin from 1932 is apparently FORTY times more accurate than the M4.

    Too many veterans

Nerfed environment. Spawn with AK. Loot everywhere. No PvP.

    Can opener vs sharp tool

You'd be surprised at the things that may happen when trying to open cans with knives. However it's not going to break the knife or spoil the food or destroy part of the food. It might make it horribly dull or chip the blade but your food will be okay and the knife will be fixable. Unless you're using something unspeakably flimsy, like a Vic Classic.

    Scope improvements

Some more tests after finding a couple scopes, they all seem to have incorrect zooms: The ACOG magnifies only 2.2x. This should be changed to 4x. The M68 magnifies 1.4x. I'm at a loss as to why this is magnifying at all, especially when it clearly states "non-magnifying" in the description.

  23. Nope, I mean no cars now = no point now. Also you could probably poke a full-size rifle out a car window, it would just be less convenient. Not sure how they would model that. As for accuracy the problem, like you said, is the slower velocity = more drop and longer time of flight, and the projectile will pass through the transonic region sooner, which fucks with the bullet's stability. That's not an issue for assault rifles and it doesn't model that anyways. As well you want a barrel and powder combination that burns the powder consistently which it doesn't model either. There's only one accuracy value so they have to compromise. So drop and time of flight. They could easily make a system to reduce the muzzle velocity.
