Braxton, you can throw them and zombies will investigate the noise.

No, really, you'd be laughed out of any college classroom for claiming that human beings aren't altruistic by nature. Yet you saw fit to present your opinion as having equal weight to mine. Now I'm an asshole for pointing out your lack of knowledge on the matter? You believe the way that *you* want the game shapes reality. But that's not the way things work. Open your mind.
-
You're certainly making many sweeping generalizations here. I'd disagree with your claim that human beings are naturally altruistic' date=' and I wouldn't be alone. Unfortunately, neither of us can prove our points, as everyone is different so we can't make overarching claims like the one you just made. I guess the best evidence of this fact is that there are both bandits and survivors in this mod -- everyone is different. [/quote'] No, I'm not making sweeping generalizations, I'm drawing from knowledge of sociology, anthropology, psychology, etc. If you disagree with my claim that human beings are naturally altruistic you would be considered wrong by every leading behaviorist...That's the problem with forums. Some people have educations and honestly know more than others and make better informed posts. It's not your duty to believe me, you can look it up yourself. Don't defy the truth though.

Why did you nerfed the loot percentage ?
swayzesghost replied to drakenof's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No item respawns isn't sustainable because a server has hundreds of unique clients connected each day. Little bit idealistic. I think a good thing would be if you found like special forces guys dead in the woods and half eaten..that'd be a source of good equipment. etc etc, just invent clever ways to spread equipment out that make sense in the world. Maybe you find a burned out truck full of army guys and a rocket launcher. -
It's exactly my point that the least realistic thing possible is that everyone would shoot each other on sight after an apocalypse. Humans are naturally altruistic and what is displayed in the mod commonly is frankly misfit behavior.
-
I think we're trying to avoid fragmenting the player base as much as possible though, especially this early in development. Good idea though.
-
I don't think there's any formal place to donate, is there? Maybe somebody the community trusts should set up a paypal. I'd pay like $20 right now if I could get a donator slot or something.
-
But nobody is suggesting non-PVP servers, that wouldn't solve anything. There is just a logical and mature coalition of players that wants to see less sociopathic murder in the game and more cooperation. What reasons can you give *for* the ability to murder other players relentlessly? How is it good for game design or for the overall experience? Because it's "hardcore"? That's not a reason.
-
Ok, you donating?

It's a video game, get over yourself. As someone who's admittedly a mature combat vet recently stated in one of these threads, the people supporting the murdering are the younger ones in it for the cathartic release. If you've been around the internet for very long you'd know that forum users rarely reflect the development path of a game...Their job is usually to complain about everything. I enjoy the PVP aspects of the game too, I don't want them removed in any way.

Dude if you dislike the game so much stop playing. I don't dislike the game at all, I dislike the fact that the vocal majority of the player base thinks it's perfect as a broken alpha, because they clearly are getting an adrenaline high off the kill. That was UO for me. I don't care what these kids want anymore. I want a mod that can sustain a community and grow and evolve to be something one of a kind.
-
Clearly it's because all of those 92 players were bad and they need to go play Dead Island as someone suggested to me. Not that this game currently encourages rampant game-destroying player killing of newbs for no reason.
-
I too would like to know how you would propose that is accomplished. The way your original post reads it just says "PK". Over half the people that play this game now wear the bandit skin from PK' date=' many of them from simply shooting first or being a better shot than the bandit that tried to do them in. If "PK" alone is your only qualifier then over half of the people playing this game would die with a single bullet from anything. [/quote'] Add a way to declare friendly to another player. If I am friendly I cannot damage them. They can still damage me. It's not a two way street. If a player kills a friendly player, however, it is a murder. Lots of things could be done server-side with client positions/view positions etc that are already being checked as part of the anti-cheat. You could go so far as to measure whether a player actually aimed at a player, or even saw them at any point. Don't say "it can't be done". Challenge yourselves. Think about how you would do it. There are so many ideas that could be implemented...Many of them good and sound. Make every player's life valuable, every time. This is a big part of the problem. People do not engage in sociopathic behavior in real life like they do in video games because, in real life, simply put, someone will kill you for threatening the group. However, the tables are turned in the game, where sociopathic behavior allows you to become more powerful than normal people. Something has to be done to make life valuable, like in real life. Here's a preliminary idea..Just a suggestion off the top of my head. You too are full of good ones. I believe in you, DayZ players. Make every player start with information. The information cannot be transferred off the character or taken in any way. If you don't voluntarily give someone your information, they can never have it. Information could be: torn up pieces of a map detailing a cache location a torn piece of paper with a safe combination. someone else has the other piece with the location of the safe. Your character has memorized access codes to a certain bunker and only he can open the door out of everyone on the server. etc, etc, etc. I've never seen this idea suggested, it could be beautifully implemented with some thought. It'd spawn a new meta-game within the game of trying to find, protect, and use valuable information assets. And maybe, just maybe, that bandit will consider kidnapping a guy instead of shooting him dead for no reason. The game grows, evolves, becomes more complex and better.

Why is night so bright now?
swayzesghost replied to Kenya East's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
A lot of people are posting smugly and ignoring the fact that the game's weather syncing system *isn't working properly* I've had weather and night time lighting change drastically on me at various times throughout the past few days. -
How realistic are ballistics?
swayzesghost replied to bonetopick's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I had an M4A1 and before I logged out lying on the side of a hill I decided to test the game's accuracy. I aimed for a zombie head that was a mere few pixels wide, way in the distance. I popped a single shot and he dropped like the ValuJet. So beware that players can and will kill you from extreme distances, especially with scoped rifles. -

Maturity isn't currently what we're seeing from the player base. We're seeing antisocial PKing and a "deal with it" attitude on the forums, the unconstructive signature style of teenage kids. Dead Island, laughable. Please avoid being insulting. It's pretty close-minded and ignorant to think people can't enjoy different genres from what they typically engage in. I doubt there's anyone playing this mod that has as much outright FPS experience as me. I can adapt. Once again the thread isn't about me being bad at movement or anything. I'm not. It's about the fact that there are no repercussions for antisocial behavior. Please stay on target. I know it's hard for some of you to believe that a person with a contrary opinion could also be a skilled player, but you've got to think outside the box a little.
-
Not into it, never been into the mil sim stuff. Not a big fan of moving slowly. Really not a big fan of moving slowly combined with being murdered, hence the thread.

Taking control away from the player is the #1 cardinal sin in game design for me. Knockdown needs to be completely altered. Spawned the other day, knocked down in one hit by a teleporting zombie, drained to 6000 blood. Killed myself to respawn.
-
You know, I bought this game to get away from the 4chan crowd, but it looks like that's who plays it now.
-
Predictable, unhelpful, judgmental forum responses. Everything boils down to "I'm playing wrong" or "that's how the game is" or "this isn't the game I want" No, just no, people. This is an alpha and it's currently awful. Exploration is discouraged and antisocial behavior is encouraged. It can be better than this. This mod won't survive with all the random murdering.
-
It shouldn't kill you, that's not a logical idea. You should just stay in the world, giving your friends a chance to protect you, for 60 seconds or whatever. People who log for whatever reason = scum of the earth. Have never done this in any game in 15+ years of multi gaming.

My first post contained a mechanic suggestion for balancing. I wouldn't expect reading comprehension out of someone with pony shit all over their profile. Please don't even post in my thread, I'm not interested in anything you have to say and nobody else should be either.
