Weird hitching/freezing

Recommended Posts

I searched the forums about this but, I couldn't find a topic that about this specific thing so if there is a topic like this, I apologize in advance.

For some reason, when I have the DayZ mod installed, the game will hitch/freeze for several seconds at a time every minute or so. This only happens when the mod is installed and even does it when tested in the map editor if it's a server or connection issue. When I delete it and play Arma2 without it, it goes away so it has to be mod-specific.

I have the latest beta patch, latest DayZ version, the 1.6 CO patch, and video drivers are up to date. I am running the steam version with the -mod=@dayz -nosplash launch options. The graphic settings don't seem to help it any. This hitching up is there no matter what the settings are.

same prob here mate, except that i get it every like 10 seconds, and sometimes it lasts like whole 1 or 2 seconds. very annoying. it's like super lag or something. it's pretty horrible to say the least. no idea how to fix....

Are you guys using the SixLauncher? I found a game by just launching it from the Multiplayer menu in game and I didn't have any issues. It seems the problem only occurs when trying to find a game with the Launcher.

In my experience i am not getting these 'freezes' when running DayZ with the the normal arma 1.6 patch ...the game runs perfectly whether it be vanilla , with DayZ or ACE or any mod ...however whenever i run DayZ with the latest arma beta patch installed ( and even the beta version before the latest ) , the game will freeze every 30 seconds or so for anything up to 5 seconds which makes playing DayZ with beta a no-go. Now im sure this problem is not Mod specific or due to six launcher because i have tested this in the arma editor , for me this problem is to do with beta itself because it was still freezing whilst i was running the beta in the arma editor. Ive tried google , ive searched these forums and i cant find a solution anywhere , im just worried that i will not be able to play the next DayZ 1.7.1 update because of the fact you will need to be running the latest arma beta to play it :( ..... there has to be somone who knows how to fix this ? ...oh hero of vast knowledge and problem solving expertise .....please show yourself !

I have the latest beta patch installed and got the game running fine after I stopped using the sixlauncher. I had the same problem with it doing it in the editor too. Try restarting the computer and booting the DayZ mod up without using the Sixlauncher and see if that fixes it.

i've seen this on every release so far, but it's always turned out to be server related... ie. if I disconnect and re-connect to another server it goes away

I've got a list of servers that respond well for me now, so I stick to those and haven't seen it recently at all

I have the same problem, except they're micro-hitches occurring once every second, and they're only with DayZ (not normal ARMA2). It seems to be server dependent. Some servers have it really bad, other servers are smooth as silk. When I start playing, I have to hop servers repeatedly until I find a perfectly smooth server.

Usually servers with less hitching are the ones with fewer players/zombies on them. Less than 12 players and it's smooth as butter; over that and it starts to slow to a crawl. I therefore suspect that some servers are unequipped to handle the mod. Either that or it's my CPU. I'm on a Core 2 Quad Q9300 which isn't the best processor out there but it's no slouch either.

Since I'm always switching servers to find the ones with the best FPS...Rocket's newly proposed anti-cheat system worries me (kills character if it switches servers too much). Maybe Rocket needs to set high standards for server hardware...
