McStabYou 0 Posted June 15, 2012 I can't tell you how many times me, my friends or any groups that I associate with have had massive amounts of gear stolen from our camps. And on the other hand, I can't tell you how many times I've stolen something from a random tent that I happened to find. Whenever this happens, I always wish there where other ways to hide loot.Along side tents, there should be other deployable storage units like duffel-bags or satchels that hold a lot less gear (maybe about at much as a czech pack) but are easier to hide. (Deployable in tall grass or under trees).I also thought it would be cool if you could bury gear with an entrenchment tool. It would be a little hard to recover if you died though... Tovarich 2 Posted June 15, 2012 +1 for your suggestion! That would be sweet. Also, what about make possible to put permanent marks on your map? In that way, you could always remember where you putted your beloved gear, as well create some "pirate treasury hunting" in the game, for when you got killed and the bandit stole your map. hishnik 23 Posted June 15, 2012 I think right now part of the problem is that tents are impossible to place anywhere other than open fields. If there was a way to stick a tent in the middle of the forest it'd be much better.I am all for idea of other hiding spots. Maybe even be able to make a fire pit, and 'save' items there, you can use it for 'Gear' after you made it anyways :)
.:14A41:.Pvt.p4lztZ 3 Posted June 15, 2012 I agree that they are way too easy to see. You can see them from very far away. We should have some way of concealing them. I don't think you should be able to recover your stored items that your dead character had stored though. They should be destroyed the minute you die (not sure how to avoid it though if you have a group that has pitched many a tent though). What is the point of dying then? Oh noes! You'd have to walk/run, drive,, fly, etc. back to your storage? It's ridiculous...I do it now 'cause I can, but I don't think it should be kept as a feature. It's most likely the way it is now for testing purposes. So I wouldn't get to comfortable with it. If it stays whatever...doesn't make sense to me. After writing this post (I've said this too many times to continue to keep doing it myself lol)...I will not use my tent after death again. Hardcore motherfuckers! :P
Wired 1 Posted June 15, 2012 The best place to put your tent is at one of the closest deerstands to the shore.that way, you can get to it and no one will find it. right? Right?

Badnik 0 Posted June 15, 2012 These ideas lead to a lot of food for thought.Having variation's of tents: Commercial/store bought Single man & Multiple people - The types you buy from a camping store. A commercial drop.Single - it's a swag, swags are awesome but don't have alot of storage space.Multiple person - Probably one of the square domed tents that everyone's family has bought from a camping store at some point in their lives. It's got more space than a single, but it was never designed for someone to live in for an extended period of time. Then having Military grade tents - Military drop.Military single - would either be the camo one in game now, or the same but with gillie netting over it to decrease visibility. Military Multiple (Medic tent) - And When I'm talking about a military multiple person tent I'm pretty much thinking of ARMA II's OA Medic tent deployable. Which can heal people, and looks to have a modeled Generator attached to the mesh. So maybe it requires fuel in order to heal someone, or better yet, Fuel and bloodpacks to heal. Or lots of both to heal a group sitting in the tent. Pro: It can heal a group with Petrol and blood packs over time? So it's beneficial to both groups and lone wolf players (Lone wolfs could set it up, gas it up and put in blood, so they have to deal with all the cons, but get a benefit of being able to use a blood pack on themselves) Con: It's big, green and has a BIG RED CROSS and probably generates noise and light. as well as requires finite resources to work properly. Gaidoon 19 Posted June 15, 2012 Why are you guys worried about tents you can get a vehicle and store a lot more and hide it in a forest.
Badnik 0 Posted June 15, 2012 Gaidoon, I'm not worried about tents, I would just like to see variety in items and watch this game expand into a more authentic Zombie Apoco-Sim. I want it to be visually exciting and varied so that it will enhance the gameplay.Because as you said, there is no point in getting or using a tent if there is a better alternative around. So you want to make the idea of tents more appealing, you can do this via adding something to the tent mechanic to make it less of a "cruddier, non-mobile, vehicle placeholder." with no real use that isn't already done better by something else such and a reason why people would prefer a tent to a vehicle, because currently, there isn't one.The other way to make it appealing to players is make it visually appealing, so variety, better models, mutiple models, of different shapes, sizes and colours. So people will set it up and use it because it looks wicked, and that will make them want to use it.It's the difference between this:https://publikworks.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/image1011.jpgthis:http://resources1.news.com.au/images/2011/10/23/1226174/066965-tent-city.jpgThis:http://www3.pictures.gi.zimbio.com/Sacramento+Tent+City+Fills+Up+Newly+Jobless+1b--xzbL7Kbl.jpgAnd This:http://olive-drab.com/gallery/photos/med_tent_city_400.jpg

Nothing says "My clan means business" like a fortified camp with barbed wire and medical tents. Why are you guys worried about tents you can get a vehicle and store a lot more and hide it in a forest. That's even worse. Not only are they bigger than a tent, but you might as well wrap your gear up with a bow and help them unload it when they drive it back to their base! McStabYou 0 Posted June 15, 2012 Bear bags' date=' buried lootI think the key is more variety[/quote']That's exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about. I was thinking that the ground where loot is buried should look the part too. (Ground looks soft and dug up) You'd have to be looking for it to see it, and it'd be much harder to find than a tent. Wouldn't want to take credit for someone else idea. I actually went straight from playing DayZ/chatting with my friends about this, to creating an account and posting it. jonesyx@gmail.com 19 Posted June 16, 2012 The problem is the way the mechanics of the game disallow placing tents next to solid objects like trees within a certain distance. Tent cities would be far harder to spot if they weren't solely located in clearings.
dogsbd 12 Posted June 16, 2012 Would be nice to be able to hide stuff under fallen logs, cover with leaves/limbs etc. with no tent, e-tool etc required.

Tent cities would be far harder to spot if they weren't solely located in clearings. You know' date=' I've actually spotted tents in forests before. Usually just one, but they just stick out so much, they're pretty hard to miss, even if you're not looking for them. Tents are still useful and most definitely need tweaking, but variety is always a good thing.Would be nice to be able to hide stuff under fallen logs, cover with leaves/limbs etc. with no tent, e-tool etc required.I was originally thinking that it would be cool if there was a caching system like in stalker. Problem is, that would give way to a whole new kind of scavenger who just checks all the possible places that you could stash your loot. I bet we'd even see cache maps too.
