So the last couple times I've played I have noticed that zed's appear to aggro from an entire village if you fire a weapon.

Story: Last night a friend and myself were had a lone zed follow us up into an apartment complex. We shot the zed on the top floor of the large apartment complex. After that more and more zombies continued to arrive. I'm wondering if the aggro has been changed recently to cause this. The zombies would not quit coming. We ended up shooting our way out of the building and running for safety, there were more zombies outside the building and more headed our way from very far distances that should not of drawn aggro with the weapons we were using. Weapons fired: G17, M16A2, M1911, 1866. none of these have a large sound signature. Literally zombies were aggroing to us from over 500m away we watched as zeds came running from a small section of far off town to us. So my question is has the zed behaviour changed to cause them all to frenzy if one nearby does. It seemed like a string effect as one zed frenzied all those in the area did, normally this isn't an issue but it seemed every zed in town ended up at the apartment complex and as they respawned they continued to return to us.

I know of servers with more zed spawns but aint come across it while in a publicesrver. Unless you are inside one of those apartments, If i aggro one zed while on the first step i get a shit load more after me.

We usually have at least one aggro, but they give up chase before they get all they way to the top, these kept coming in waves over and over again. it was a bit glitchy too with zombies just appearing in front of us on the stairwell. Not sure what happened but it was different and added a new level of difficulty. Thankfully we had plenty of ammo this trip.

I tend to experience this allot aswell.. when you try to lose the zeds in a building and you want to smoke em out they just keep comming as I'm believing that when you make follow up shots, the sounds get amplified. as the zeds have the AI of usual Arma 2 Npc's I guess it raises suspicion per shot in a short period of time. Like.. when you'd lose one shot, with a makarov for example. most of the zeds will lose interest because they lost track of the sound. when you'd fire a whole mag out, the amount of zeds being attracted pile up rather quickly.

Though yeah it can be rather random at times. so I ain't sure about this theory of mine.

Seems like the best explanation for this phenomena. Thanks!

Rather surprising with the weapons listed.

I had that effect recently shooting the M14 from a control tower in town on Lingor.

Think I ended up with about 150 kills out of that one.

I've noticed that the Mk 48 on full auto for a few seconds will attract almost every zombie in a big town. I've been surrounded by 40-50 zombies due to this a number of times. The plus side is that if you can evade them then you've just pulled every zombie in a 200m radius to one spot and are free to wander unperturbed.

Trapped in those apartments with minimum ammo ? You can generally ditch them by going top floor and throwing the spawned flares out the window , yes they work in daytime. No flares.. then use cans.

In my personal opinion, I think it would be cool to see more hordes of zombies going for people. Maybe make them have a certain radius on them to aggro additional zombies near themselves. It would make sense that if a zombie aggroed on someone, turned and started running toward that person and screaming, that other zombies would see that and follow. They did have human brains at one time. They should have some intellegence left.
