Should I wait for the stand alone version?

Hi everyone,

I’m a 40 year old gamer and have been playing on Xbox for several years, mostly FPS such as Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3. I’ve been growing a little tired of these lately and looking for something more mature…after stumbling on some DayZ videos online I’m thinking that this is it. I’ve been reading the helpful stickied posts, watching vids and other helpful tips for Noobs.

I was about to download Arma II yesterday but then read about the standalone version of DayZ that should be out in the near future.

Would there be any big advantage to me waiting for this? What I haven’t been able to find is whether or not the standalone will compatible with the existing version or if there are any advantages to me waiting.

Any advice appreciated, thanks.

I've had more fun with the alpha, than any other "completed" game ... I would get in on the alpha to see what is taken out of or added to when stand alone drops ... THIS IS THE BEST GAME TO BE PLAYED RIGHT NOW PERIOD!!

It's not really very expensive so you might as well buy it.

I'd still buy ArmA, bear in mind that nearly everyone is going to move to the standalone in a couple of months. They aren't compatible. However, ArmA is a great game regardless and DayZ isn't the only mod for it, it's not even the only zombie mod.

Don't buy it.. Wait for the standalone.. This game is SO Filled with hackers you cannot believe how horrible it is..

Thanks for the input guys I will probably go ahead with it but still move to standalone when the time comes. After all its only $39 US.
