Confirmation needed before spawning your character

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

as you all will have experienced the loading times for DayZ can vary A LOT. I have seen servers loading in seconds and i can remember waiting for almost half an hour, too afraid to cancel because this might spawn me back to the beach.

I think this is nothing that can be dealt with easily and i think we will probably have to live with it even when the standalone comes out as this is a combination of the game code, server capacity, server uptime and some IT voodoo.

But what would really help me to live with this problem would be a confirmation button before the game spawns me in. Its okay for me if it takes some time when loading but its annoying to have to sit there and stare at the loading screen for minutes just to make sure you are not spawned in and shot before you even notice.

I know some might now come with the mandatory "just log out in a a bush" argument but i think this is not valid because a) the bushes you log out are the bushes around cherno, elektro, stary or nwa most of the time, which is not safe either b ) its not always possible because you dont have unlimited time once your grown up, when someone calls me I have to find a spot to log out nearby.

And anyway, my suggestion would be easy to implement and harm no one. Of course the slot for confirmation should not be to long to prevent misuse of server capacity but i think 2 mins or something like that should not be a problem at all.

What do you think?

I think your char has not spawn yet to the server when you are stuck at loading?

And there is some slow communication about spawnlocation between hive and server, because of that you spawnpoint gets reseted.

So this woudnt help that coast spawn problem?

But regardless of that I would prefer the loadings happen and then propt me to spawn or cancel, would be better for everyone so you dont have to sit front of you pc waiting 30 minutes. Or wait 5 and think its going to take 4ever and leave to eat etc while waiting and you spawn after you leave the room... you come back and find your self dead..

I can't be sure if he was waiting at the load menu or just AFK, but my friend and I were standing right in front of a fresh spawn, pretending to look all scary, and waiting a good while for him to load in until he responded by running backwards taken aback haha.

I think there is a period in which you are in the game but loading menu is still up.

I have also noticed when the server has more people in it, it takes longer, so I think that period might be extended because of that... Or better hardware for server.

And to Okami, yes this would be a good idea I think. Nice thinking. It should help some problems that arrise.

I`m not sure if we are talking about the same thing, sorry if i misunderstand something, english is not my first language. I mentioned the coast spawn because the last time i suffered it where when i cancelled DayZ while loading anywhere in the time between clicking Ok on the server menu and spawning in my character. I dont think this will be solved by my suggestion, but maybe you would not have to cancel so often, just watch a movie or 2 while it loads ;)

Yes my girlfriend plays sometimes and sits next to me, at the point where you can see "setup completed" and see your eat drink etc stats in the right corner your ingame and vulnerable. And you are standing, even if you spawn in prone you will stand ingame for a few seconds before you lay down. And you can be shot while standing. All tested ;)

Great idea. Any waiting for loading, creating character etc will be much easier if you don't have to stare at the screen until it's done. With a final confirmation you can do something else meanwhile, getting a snack or glass of water or whatever.

I've aborted while loading a lot of times and I was never spawned on the beach because of it. Besides, if you log out in an unsafe location, it's your own fault really.

It can be a bastid. We have logged out due to server restarts or unplayable lag, ping spike kick or simply be fail kick. Logged back into Cherno apartments once and i am getting axed a question in the face.

Confirmation button meaning your char is ready to go but not sitting there being ass raped is a good idea.

This dude...this fucking dude in Cherno apartments . I was logging in, doing the ten year loading deal and when i finally enter game i am laying on the ground, bleeding, shock, broken bones, black and white screen. This guy is standing there over me swinging a fucking hatchet. I drill him with my m16 and bandage like a boss then morphine.

Sidechat server , i am like what are you doing you tool ?? He reckons..Oh ..sorry man i thought you were dead. Riiiight. Fucking peep. I grabbed his food then hid his body with all of his specced up gear so he could not get it , normally i would leave it so someone else could have a go at his gear but i was not leaving it for this dweebo to come back and regear.

Only reason i logged there was because of a server restart and after a three hour session i was not going to wait another <insert time> to get back into game.

I`ve aborted several times and have been spawned on the beach. So your "argument" tells us what? It doesnt exist because it has not happened to you? I have not been murdered in real life so there is no murder?

For the second "argument", did you read my post? If not, do it. If yes, do it again. Repeat.

Different strokes for different servers, boss.

The only time I got a fully geared up character spawning on the n00b coast was while logging into an "@hive" server running an older mod version. (before I learned version updates are applied voluntarily by server admins)

So it does happen, just the number of servers + players makes the cause hard to nail down. Aborting before "setup completed" has never caused it for me.

I'm backing the confirmation screen suggestion, it's a really good idea. :beans:

The only problem might be people taking up slots in the server when loading is complete, but they're away doing something else.

lol you're logic is awesomely idiotic which makes it kind of funny. Though I hope, for your sake, you're not being serious.

My 'argument' tell us that there is more involved in spawning you at the beach than the simple act of aborting while loading.

For the second "argument", did you read my post? If not, do it. If yes, do it again. Repeat.

It's still your own damn fault for logging out in an unsafe location, that isn't changed by the fact that you can't seem to be able to properly plan your day and/or your gaming sessions. If you know you only have 5-10 minutes left of play time, you should know not to stay witin the danger zones and if you don't care to be that cautious then you'll simply have to live with the fact that you'll be in danger when logging back in.
