The Ban TS3 thread!

Recommended Posts

If any of you have read my previous suggestions and mechanics you will see i am strongly anti meta gaming. I hate that people have printed maps, but whatever, i hate that people Can just use a blood transfusion bag without in game training or studying. But most of all i hate meta communication. The global chat disable was a GREAT step in the right direction. I have seen wonders come from that. And now people who want to play right are able. The problem that still exists is that TS3 is cheating. Plain and simple. Players who are grouped up with friends theyv known for years on a private ts3 server are at an advantage. You need a radio or phone to communicate over long distances. If your character dosent have one. You have to relate to flashlight morse code and smoke signals.

The solution is disable any ts3 possibility. Now i know your thing lmao thats not possible. Id think the only way would be hack every users personal computer and block ts3 traffic. And servers will never even see or be effected by ts3 traffic. I am a communicator by trade in the military. I dont kno everything though since i specialize in infrastructure. I dont delve to deep into software or what they call the application and transport layers.

So really the point of this thread is to get the discussion out there for fun and 2 to see if any one out there more versed in networking as it applies to dayz knows of a way for servers (( only IF and IF they want)) could deny access to players using TS3? Maybe on hardcore servers only or something. An absolute force to use in game comm only.

Maybe it a server can check the client for ports or sockets that are connected to TS ip addresses?? Fellow realist and hardcore network gurus help me out.

No.

Direct chat is primarily used for interacting to survivors you do not know. You cant just pop on a ts3 and be like "YO IM NEXT TO YOU YOU FRIENDLY?"

"one does not ban the internet's voice comms".

Sorry mate.

You have to "ban" Mumble, Teamspeak, Steamchat, XFire, and about 25 other voicechat applications. This may be a problem.

Direct chat doesn't even work, and using Sidechat is definetly not cool. Currently they are the only option of proper communication (typing is slow).

With your logic, using forums to meet up with people is also metagaming. Because you couldn't just go on an internet forum in the middle of the apocalypse in russia. Do you expect us to work together exclusively in direct chat, when rocket isn't even planning on adding in radios until future versions?

0/5

First off, how the fuck can you even enforce that?

Second, Rocket has said that meta-gaming is acceptable.

If and only if, the in-game VOIP was even remotely close to the sound quality of TS3 would I like this.

I agree very much with the heart of what you are suggesting. However the in-game Direct Chat is crap.

If my friends come over to my RL house and play in the same room with me, is it cheating to speak to them when their characters are in different cities?

What a stupid idea.

I love TS and I WOULD find a work around if they tried to ban/block it. I'd even just run it on a second computer if that's what it took. (on a laptop or something)

Its easier than people are making out, you just have to get Arma to take exclusive control of the soundcard, locking out or overriding other applications like TS3. its possible, but you could hack around it.

AAAnd thats most likely illegal continuity. Also, why would they? They are trying to get people banding together more and so you take the voice communication? I understand meta-gaming is irritating sometimes, but most of the time it makes the game better.

OP claims to be a communications expert for the military, yet he is not only unable to communicate his idea to us without riddling it with grammar and spelling errors, he is actually dumb enough to suggest "hacking" into the computers of every Day Z user, and naive enough to think he can control what non-invasive programs users run alongside their game.

Either OP is a lying five year old or I am deeply, deeply concerned about the state of his country's military.

Its easier than people are making out' date=' you just have to get Arma to take exclusive control of the soundcard, locking out or overriding other applications like TS3. its possible, but you could hack around it.

[/quote']

And what happens when someone refuses permissions to ArmA to do so? It just doesn't start? What happens when someone loads up additional drivers or switches to an onboard sound card? What happens if someone dual-boots, or emulates their sound card to trick Day Z? What happens when someone picks up a phone or plugs their mic into their nearby laptop and uses TS on that?

This isn't happening, and the idea is stupid.

Not the best idea in the world, I use TS all the time and I host a server. My server is used for different games including DayZ. So TS isnt going to happen just for that reason, nevermind the thousands of other reasons...

In fact this is probably the worst idea.

I wondered if the game could just read the the microphone input anyway and attract zombies if you were talking.

You would only transmit in game if you were pushing press to talk but if you used a third party voice chat and were talking away you would draw agro within a certain range.

:)

People will just deny DayZ access to their mic, or hand exclusive control over to their TS, or dual boot, or emulate, or phone, or use another computer.

How are people not getting the absolute hopeless stupidity that pervades this very concept? It's about as likely to happen as DayZ infallibly detecting when you're thinking mean thoughts about rocket or growing your hair "too" long.

I see what you are getting at and I do wish there were servers or a subsidiary version that was dedicated to the lack of communication aspect (besides local in-game voice). In reality' date=' your never going to be able to rid meta gaming because there are too many avenues to use.

Though leveling characters I see as an infection. DayZ should stray far from or take extreme caution with if or when implementing a deep seeded MMO/RPG-like dynamic. Blood bags are a bit OP in my opinion anyhow.

The only way it will happen is if people would do so themselves. And attempt to gain a different experience from this. Not treat it as any other game and say: lets meet up so we can eat beans together and have a gay old time!

Just think if everyone actually started the game without 3rd party comms. Like I don't know...as if they were actually just a survivor of an unknown infection which has wiped out most of the world's population? That would be great for many different reasons. Would never happen though. Their loss really. I enjoy playing this way. To each their own I guess. :P

Wow, apparently this poster is against meta-thinking as well and fails to see the bigger picture. What you are suggesting, even if I didn't think it's retarded (which I do), it is IMPOSSIBLE or at least way too much of a pain in the butt for it to be even considered by the dev team. You are aware there are TONS of other VoIP applications out there, TS3 is certainly not the only one.

So because OP has no friends, and an annoying voice that noone likes, he doesnt want people to beable to communicate.

This thread is based on one of the stupidest arguments I have ever heard.

Please OP, explain why me being able to talk to the people next to me shouldnt be allowed? Is it because in a zombie world the atmosphere has been sucked out from spaceballs 1 and there is no medium for sound waves to travel? Or is it because in the zombie world the government has chopped everyone's tongues off?

In real life you would beable to talk to eachother........

Sorry but using TS3 / Vent / Mumble etc is not meta-gaming.
