Ok so most of the time when I'm playing dayz it is fine but quite often my screen goes blank and I have to flush the screen to fix it and sometimes it looks like a nuke is going off, and it darkens then lightens again?

OP Try updating your video card drivers. I am no computer pro but sounds to me as if your card isn't cut out to run DayZ. Again if i am totally off base sorry I only know enough to screw the goose!

What type of monitor do you have? I had the same problem with a Samsung. It is the magic bright feature on the moniter, you have to shut it off if you want the brightness fluctuations to stop.

It usually happens in forests, correct?

i dunno, common problem i think, i just leave and re-join the server, no problems then. and i have a pretty shitty pc compared to most of you guys!
