to save your location, you must sleep.

Recommended Posts

this may cause some massive arguments, but it could stop alt-f4er's to some point. and, if you are against this, this should be optional for servers. say, it was only available on hardcore servers or something.

anyway, the idea is that in order to save the game, one must "sleep" in order to save his location when they log out. things like tents could be used as beds (giving them more use), or, when dayz standalone comes out with Chernarus plus, players could sleep in abandoned houses\buildings. for example, if one was to sleep, log out, and then log back in, one would still be in the same location as they were before, like normal. but if one slept, walked a couple of hundred meters and found some loot, and then logged out at that location, when they get back into the game they will be where they last slept, but without the loot that they had found before. it could also fix that rare "spawning on the coast" problem that rarely occurs.

however, if someone was to take your tent you slept at, maybe a message will pop up saying that you cannot save untill you find another place to sleep, or something like that.

it would be similar to GTA's saving system, except that you can't navigate through saves (obviously), and that when you die, you loose your sleeping spot and respawn on the coast with barely nothing like normal.

this system could add a whole new dimension to player-made bases\fortifications, meaning that it actually IS a place to live and sleep, and not just some place to store loot. also, you shouldn't be able to sleep if there are z's close by.

it would be awesome to have (even though i defy this series) CoD-style zombie defence where you must protect your home from the herds of zombies that could be roaming around Chernarus (in standalone it will most likely include roaming z's, and not just "hot spots" for z spawns). and NO, i do NOT mean arcade-y style z defence like CoD zombies, you know what i mean, DayZ is a zombie-apocalypse simulator, not a damn hurr-durr shooter. imagine the horror of z's suddenly spotting your presence, and then running straight for the base. this would be more scarier once zombies are more threatening, and it would be cool that if that fortification is overrun by zombies, it becomes a zombie spawn place, like towns and farms.

it would be great to add this to standalone, but if people don't like it, there should be an option to have it removed on some servers.

also, a little off topic here, but player zombification. yes, this had been stated many times, but i'd just like to throw in my 2 cents and say that if you turn into a zombie, you do not have control of the zombie, and you just respawn on the coast. that would be better. but if you are killed by a hoard of zombies, and the zombies eat you alive, you shouldn't turn into a zombie. but if you get infected by a zombie but get away from them, you will turn into a zombie if it isn't treated (or, if there isn't a cure....).

Don't really like the idea of having to get to a tent to log out even though I do it a lot.

As for infection, did you not get the memo? we are immune that's how we survived this long

Pretty sure they're just adding general disease and illness, not the zombie infection... Lol.

thought that some people wouldn't like some aspect of this idea, but it WOULD be a way to stop alt-f4ers.

I agree with wanting to stop alt+f4ers, but what you suggested would only mean alt+f4ers log in at their latest bed after they abort.

So it doesn't solve anything unless you find their bed and put a beartrap in it.

Even if there was simply a "going to sleep" animation played along with a logout timer, alt+f4 would still just quit the game instantly.

There's no easy fix. You also have to think about legitimate disconnections (time out, high ping and admin kick) before punishing someone for simply leaving the game.

Maybe the alt+f4 shortcut should be given a function in DayZ itelf, to have your character commit suicide if you really want to quit so badly.

This combined with the sleep animation + logout timer might be a solution.

yeah, but i was thinking that it would stop people from doing it because they would loose their stuff that they got, but i guess people would risk it.

still, the alt-f4ers aside, i think it is a much more legit and realistic saving system.

Most would rather lose the last tin of beans they found than lose all their gear.

There shouldn't be a "saving" system. Anything along those lines is open to a LOT of abuse.

Not necessarily, if, for example, in order to save the game you needed to access a pitched tent, remove shoes and backpack, enter the tent and then sleep/save (in other words saving the game takes time and effort) this method would be of absolutely no use to anyone looking to quickly log to avoid trouble or death. I think as a general idea this 'sleep to save' is pretty good. Have some beans.

Why it has to be done so damn stupid and hard?

Add just the damn timer for abort, if you move you reset it. If you altf4, leave the char to be shot.

...no some stupid tent sleeping pls, how about disconnection... you loose you shit and thats bullshit. no gear saving, it only fucks up the game for lots of people for reason or another.

So if you don't sleep and you log out, you spawn back at last sleeping point with the same gear you just gathered, or that gear is now gone?

yeah, it's harsh on involuntary disconnections but otherwise i see no problem, and if you have a solid internet connection you have nuthin to worry about, if you have a dodgy internet connection then you will suffer no matter what system is introduced, in which case the best thing you can do is to get it sorted out. You can't just discard solutions to cheating because some folks have crappy internet.

Well, the idea is not bad. I like it, but there is one problem, and that is accidental disconnections and if the light goes off...

If it is only added in some hardcore servers...Maybe...I don´t know. Maybe it could be tested.

legit? realistic? If I pass out on the way home from somewhere I don't magically appear in my bed do I? It's a horrible idea punishing those with bad connections. Maybe if you could sleep anywhere like on the floor in a field or up against a tree then the system would be less harsh while still stopping alt+f4 and like others have said if a commit suicide key were to be permanently bound to alt+f4 it would stop people from alt+f4

I've been drinking quite a bit, i passed out, outside the home of a nice old lady. To me the system makes no sense, IRL I'm on my PC telling everybody, THAT's NOT HOW IT WORKS.

I have no new beans...

I'm going to bed

Can you tell me/us why would you want implement suck stupid system when there is much easyer and user friendly aproach? (same question to OP)

There are way better sollutions to "cheating" than one you are suggesting... lol. Its not always about YOUR connection, there is quite a few links between you and the server. Think about it for while and see how bad system it would be.

it was just an IDEA. i didn't necessarily WANT it in the game, it was just a thought. but i think it ties in well with the base/fortification thing.

in order for this to work, you would have to play in single player. otherwise, every player in the multiplayer map would need to sleep at the same time or sleeping will take an extremely boring minutes/seconds of wait.

and if you meant that sleeping would only take a second to click, then that'll defeat it's purpose anyways.
