DayZ mystery solved

There is no virus, it's all a lie. The truth is far more disturbing... Here is my reflection :

Clue #1 : all those bottles of jack daniels are empty for a reason

Clue #2 : sober people don't wander around playing monkeys.

Clue #3 : I have the strong feeling that the fast guys have consumed both alcohol and ecstasy.

Clue #4 : Alcohol always brings violence, and well those people are really violent. They must be really drunk and desperate.

Clue #5 : How strange my character never got the "zombie virus" even after several bites from hostile "zombies". But hey, if those guys were in reality drunk people, then I would not get any virus from them, right??

Clue #6 : post soviet state, indeed...

Now please listen to my theory. I think an apocalypse really occured some years ago in chernarus. But it was not a virus that turned people into flesh eaters. Instead I think survivors of this apocalypse started drinking to forget the apocalypse was happening (it's a very bad way to cope with stuff). Then the real apocalypse began : alcoholism. Alcohol brings violence, (#4) and more violence brings more reasons to drink and well... more reasons to forget violence, or forget to drink, or whatever.

Until the day no alcohol can be found anymore (#1)

This is DayZ :

people in need of alcohol would do anything to find a drop of beverage, they would even eat people in the more severe cases of disorientation...

I think your character may be one of the few who is strong enough to use other ways to cope with stuff than alcohol (maybe he does yoga for example) and so begins your journey in the ravaged world of DayZ, a fight for survival and soberness.

I really thought it through and I think it's the best explanation, better than some fantastic zombie virus... (#5)

Moreover, according to this new theory, we can assume the idea behind the game is to denounce alcoholism, which is pretty clever.

I always figured that all the zombies were regular people, and all they wanted to a little cuddling.

But it's like that one situation where that one person with huge amounts of BO goes in for a hug and your like: "Oh shiiiiiiiiiiii-" and push them away.

Same thing really, just with bullets.
