one day ull just know all of the locations on the map lulz so map wont even be required at all

up on that map is north, left is west, right is east, down is south

cost is to the south

if ure lost and u know ure not that far from coast its better to just run south untill u reach it and then its much easier to figure out where u r

Thanks! NSEW and using the map just became much easier. I also found out that if I log in and back out I know where i'm around and then I just use an online map to try and figure out where I need to go from there.

The answer to this question depends on the server difficulty. On recruit and regular, whenever you open an ingame map, you'll see your position as a blue circle, with a line pointing in the direction you're currently facing. Higher difficulty servers have this disabled, and you have to either be able to recognize landmarks (hills, buildings, roads) or know what town your in, by looking at the town sign (all town names are in the cryllic alphabet, so you may need to use a map like the DayZDB one, here which has the town names in the latin and cryllic alphabets. The best way on a higher difficulty server, is to have a GPS and know how to read the map's grid references.

Well, using the map at dayzdb, or the in game map, try to find landmarks around you that you can see on the map. If you want to get to the coast, head south or southeast to get there. I believe the clouds move eastward only in Dayz, and if it is night time, you can reliably find north by looking at the stars. Anytime you find power lines or a roadway, it will lead to a settlement of some type.

Hope that helps, I'm not really sure what you are asking exactly about Kamenka to Balota, though. Oh, wait. Are those YOUR co-ordinates in the link? Head southeast.

If you have a map you should be able to see yourself on it as blue dot with red lines around it ( Server setting set to regular, map enabled )

If ''show myself on map'' is disabled by server but you have a GPS you can fairly accurately estimate where your current position is -

The red sqare consist of 10 by 10 lines. If you were right in the middle of that square, your position would be 035 035.

If you were closer to the ATV as shown on map (touching line starting with 04) , your possition would be something like, from top to right - 040 036 as sixth lane from said 10 line square.

If you don't even have GPS at your disposal, than you're literally lost buddy :)

There is an easy hint, when i dont know where i have to move. the clouds are always moving to the east. So i always know, where the eastern coast is. :)

Here's a fairly easy way to figure out where you are since you say you have a map and compass.

*When you first log in watch the bottom right of the screen and it will say where you are (at least the general area)

*Find this mountain / town / bay / etc on your map. or even look online then find it on your map.

*Look closely as some of the areas are written in different ways (such as quarries, bays, mountains, versus towns)

*Once you find that area on your map, hold shift and left click the map near the area it said on the screen when you logged in (this will place a "waypoint" a mark on the map that helps guide you)

*Go to the waypoint, pull out your compass and face north.

*You now know exactly where you are on the map and which way north, south, east and west are in relation to your location.

*Place waypoints from now on and you won't get lost (FYI - waypoints do not stay on the map when you log in / out)
